I'm quite heavily into the Sonos eco system but after watching several of your reviews I went for the Soundcore Motion Boom as my outdoor solution over both the Move and the Roam. I reckon bang for buck you can't beat the Soundcore and I've been really happy with it. Glad to see that your latest video appears to have confirmed that I made the right choice...

Another great review Alan! The greatest feature of the Sonos is it can be turned upside down and it still says Sonos LOL.... To me the Tribit and Sonos sound about the same while the Denon and Soundcore Boost easily beat them all. But if all you have or want is Wifi then there's only one choice here.....

Fair and classy review, unlike a certain reviewer that bashed it for the whole entire review because it was distorting with the loudness button on. Good sounding to me, but definitely not worth that dough. Then again, its a 'Sonos'. I mean it sounds better when you say "I have a Sonos" or "I own a B&O"... lol!

yeah i cant say i had unusual distortion on this other than what i would expect if you drive this little thing hard. its a shame i couldnt push the eq but it didnt work for me. it sounds ok at low volume but it can only justify its price as part of a sonos setup, not as a standalone device. 👍

did you somehow change the bluetooth absolute volume feature in android developer options setting...? what you were getting is more flexibility and control over volume and when it works properly it's a benefit for me but some want the bluetooth speaker volume and device system volume work as same so they are synced together no hassle. To do this turn on disable absolute volume in developer options. If nothing is wrong with the devices it should work as expected...

Yeah i have used it both on and off. Are you talking about how it works differently in the app? With absolute volume disabled wouldn't you expect the phone to still control systems volume? When i was in the app i was still using the hard controls of the phone to change volume but it only changed the roams relative volume. I could understand if i was using the hard controls of the roam but i wasn't. Or am i missing what you are saying.

@@alanrossreviews I don't actually know what's going on with the app but when disabling absolute volume they will work separately otherwise both are synced together ... if you don't have problem with soundcore speakers then why with sonos ... they work same way ... something is messing ... i didn't see anything wrong while you are showing the problem ... the controls were separated then so if you change the volume in the app it won't affect system volume ... because they aren't synced ... so it seems okay in your case ... what you think I have experienced some software bugs where the absolute volume feature doesn't work properly ... so if you tried both way and they are same then there is bug

Excelente, Review as always, much info, bought self the speaker and was ok for the extras but I send it already back a speaker from 50 euros sound better than. I’ve heard the Denon, Stockwell 2 and Audiopro. For clarity and airiness, I’d go for the Denon. For solid separation and “360°-type-stereo” sound, the Marshall does the job. For actual deep bass and clarity on par with the Denon, I’d take Audiopro C3 over the others. Also have to mention that you can add the other speakers in their lineup to create a multi-room experience further down the line.

I bought the Soundcore Boom based on your reviews and am enjoying it using your custom EQ settings. I was wondering. How does the Sonos Roam sound using its WiFi capability versus on Bluetooth? I have other Sonos speakers and like their ecosystem so I was previously considering the Roam for something portable that can reach my WiFi outside (eg patio). It’s on sale now with a 20% discount so I was looking at it again. Using WiFi I understand you can play uncompressed streaming using their app and Amazon HD. Does that give it more discernible better sound versus using it as a Bluetooth speaker which is lossy?

The female vocal sounded quite nice at 1 point, but yeah, it's just not a good speaker is it. JBL did have the edge, which is the 1st time I've said that! Great review Alan, thanks. Awesome review! I appreciate that you always take the time to go into the details so it's much easier to understand a speakers capabilities and the pros and cons. As far as I'm concerned the Sonos can just keep on roaming. Also, have you have heard of a speaker called the W-king X10? It looks like a very new release and the availability seems fairly limited so far but it looks like it could be a contender for the motion boom. The specs look promising but it will, of course, depend on how it's tuned. Perhaps you could do a comparison in the future if you are able to procure one?

I don't think it looks like a kitchen radio. More like a football. Very much like a JBL extreme in design (complete with detachable shoulder strap) but tapered at the ends where the bass radiators are. The funny thing is they're advertising "titanium drivers". I wonder where that idea came from.🤔 Here are some of the stats: "W-KING 70W Bluetooth Speaker with Super Rich Bass, Fast Charging, Bluetooth 5.0, 15000mAh Battery Power Bank, IPX6 Waterproof, Loud Crystal Clear Audio, TWS, Mic for Outdoor, Party, Camping, Home". the flip 5 has more bass than the flip 4 so wont sound as thin. is it worth the extra? for me yes, the flip 5 has come down a lot in price but its mono and i prefer the fuller sound of the boost though it may sound a little muffled at lower volumes. the maxsound plus is a step up on both but deep bass light by todays sound. however the m+ has detail and dispersion the others can only dream of. the micro again is very different and for me a bit thin but its great for the size and price. a pair of them might do the job. depends on usage of course. Personally i cant do without the bass of the boom, going down to 40hz means i get full kick drum depth, hard to go without once you hear it. much bigger of course. if its about small form there is also the minirig mini. and i quite like the warm sound of the bose micro but it doesnt go as loud as the tribit micro.

Like comparing this roam toy to mine it not even compareable the roam have extremely uncontrollable bass and at max no bass at all vs the xb23 still have some bass and at lower volumes the roam still sounds really bad as at lower volumes the xb23 sounds extremely good and bass is nice and with the eq it makes it sound much more better then the roam so like the roam is basically a damn toy XD its funny who ever buys it for 170 bucks and get worst sound then a 80 to 100 dollar speaker that can float in water and have an eq like who ever buys the sonos roam is just not smart.

Yet another superlative review. Not part of Sonos ecosystem though I was considering the purchase of the Roam. Read the hyperbolic reviews of the Roam but awaited your review. Now I am convinced that it will no longer be a consideration. I have eliminated smart and party speakers from any future purchase as I await your discovery of the Holy Grail of BT speakers.

@@alanrossreviews Still quite satisfied with my C3 and X2 while hoping to replace them both with a single speaker that outperforms them both. The search continues. I know you're high on the Soundcore line but the design doesn't work for me even though it's the sound that ultimately matters.

Well i think the Sonos is the worst of them all! It has no bass and sounds dull and muffled. I think the best sounding and the best balanced is the Maxsound. The Boost and the Denon are best for deep bass though but it is too much for me. The JBL just sounds shrill with no real bass. I actually bought my Maxsound based on your reviews and totally love it! I actually got two so i can listen in stereo which is quite awesome 😁

Now that you bought such an overpriced speaker, maybe its time for something better😁 could you review the harman kardon omni 50+? It is a wifi speaker but also has Bluetooth, is splashproof, has a battery, and has some really great deep bass!😍 Not sure how expensive it is in the uk but it might be really interesting

Alan, Smart home sounds ltd Sonos review showed up after I watched this. What a joke that channel is. Their review was gash, and I told them. They lied through their teeth saying this speaker sounds great. I commented that I would be going back to good review channels, and gave yours my name. Ha ha ... They are basically a Sonos retailer. They even suggested 2 other Sonos speakers toward the end of the review!

This Roan speaker is garbage. Don’t waste your money. It’s to small and has connecting issues. I love my Sonos home theater setup and other Sonos speaker I have but the Roam has a few bugs. I was using it with my full system till it’s battery died. Once that happened I was unable to get it to connect back to my system. Sonos wanted me to re boot my wifi. That’s crazy to me. My wifi is not the problem, the Roam is. Packed it up and sent it back. Garbage!!!
