"I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down at the table of brotherhood." - MLK Jr.
On Wednesday July 26, we tried to bring Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream into fruition by intentionally having one of the hardest conversations for us as Americans to have about racism and justice and empathy.
We discovered that empathy is the ACT of understanding what we may never understand. And that empathy comes from listening.
White supremacy tells those of who are white that we need to "know" everything and that we can, but we cannot know this pain.
In fact part of our healing is accepting that we will never understand and to know it's our job to continue to find ways to listen.
We had planned to have this conversation before the untimely death of #NiaWilson, but much of our conversation centered around feelings that came up around her story.
We will not allow her death to be in vain.
