Sons of the Forest: Update 06 - Stone foundations, walls, floors, and even stairs!!!

In today's video, I go over the changes to the build system! Or in this case, the new additions since they didn't mess with the build mechanics that already existed.

You also cant wire on stone. So if you want to use solar and electricity, you can wire down a stone pilar.

You can make Stone ramps, You have to run a log on top of a Stone post, Then you you go to the other side with a log to lift it up. Then take the top log off and fill it with stone across the top. Then you use a half log for support from the stone pillar beam side. You can take the wood beam out then once you take the half log support beam it forces the stone to drop down like a ramp.

yo can build a frame then throw logs into it then cut the like usual and place a door.

Absolutely, I was just hoping there would be a stone doorframe. I bet something is coming in the future I was simply being impatient.

@@knightbeforedawn yeah that could have been cool. i dont like how u have to do the windows either. But maybe this is like a "test" thing. I bet they will puth that in later as well. but the stone is cool as hell on its own.

A good update but I can't get the angular offsets to work anymore. There's no arrow to attach a sloped beam in the middle of the grid. Hopefully someone will come up with a workround.

Yeah that's always been my fallback for that. I also noticed that sometimes solo logs lately have been retaining their grid alligned snap points the solution seems to be to place logs on the snap point anyway then remove them and often they will be released from the grid. It helps if your other grids are at least 2 full grids away as at 1.5 it seemed to always retain the aligned snap points.

Stone gazebos? Can you still clip the spikes through the stone walls? stone treehouses? stone defenses?

Stone gazebos seem possible (the roof will likely need to be wood though). Yes spikes can go through stone walls. Stone tree houses... Hmm gonna have to play with this but I have doubts (at least for the base foundation part). Stone defenses are a thing since the stone structures are more durable. Though the (wood only) spike walls deter cannibal attempts to climb over the walls.

@6:58 if you make stairs with that stonewall, like on the right side and remove a stone from the wall after it, the stairs start curving. with every ad­di­ti­o­nal stone removed, it gets another curved style, till the last stone, there its back to normal.

We know! I'll be incredibly happy if it gets removed from multiplayer for all but the host and server admins. Aswell as some kind of server administration system.

@@knightbeforedawn yeah it’s ridiculous giving people a mod menu for a survival game. That’s like call of duty giving free wall hacks. Great game solo tho. Shame online is everyone running shotguns and god mode

Great video as always! I found a cool stone building trick: you can make horizontal cross beams out of stone at heights other than 4 stone high. like say you want a stone cross beam across a set of half height (2 stone tall) pillars; if you "ramp mode" both of them with a full log, it will then let you build a horizontal stone beam across, and then remove the temporary angled logs. this establishes grid height so you can continue down the line w/o ramping every set. love your content!

Absolutely. Once a log is placed it treats the top of the stone pillar at any height as though it's a full support.

@@knightbeforedawn Yeah, but if you do that you will get multiple bases to build off of and it creates many build opportunities. lets say you have a stone beam at the bottom, and you add 1 quarter stone pillars and use logs to mark the height. You can now use that one quarter height as the start and build off of that, but you can still place stones on the base beam and the stones glich into one another. You can also keep placing logs in as well. Also, I was able to get stone ramps if you place the first stone beam at just the right height. I was able to do that when I placed stone beam on some rocks on the beach. Let me add some screenshots.
