Just singing same type of simple flat romantic songs doesn't make them great singers. They all became popular due to lack of music knowledge among buddhe people. There was no internet so people didn't knew about the talented singers who didn't got chances .Only connections with bollywood people mattered at that time. Buddhas don't have knowledge about legendary voice of Arijit Singh. Arijit is not just a good singer, he is a legendary singer. I am also saying that Sonu Nigam is a good singer of his 2000's era. No doubt in it.
