Jamie, a thought provoking video. I'd suggest however that you trying to achieve the impossible, having a wafter bait, staying over a pile of bait? The whole ideal is for the bait to be light, and go into the mouth without the fish feeling the weight of the hook. However, it will not stay on a pile on a feeder. Your much better with your first thoughts in having a heavy bait, in my humble option Jamie. Love the video's even though I'm in my 70s and carp fished for over 50 years, I always learn something from Match-anglers like yourself, Best regards.

How often would you change used wafter for a fresh one
@Sonubaits Жыл бұрын
For absolute best results it's best to change between fish. Although if bites are coming very quickly there's no reason why you couldn't use the same hookbait for multiple fish.

Sorry Jamie I didn’t see how you put it on the feeder, was it first in the mould or did you mould it in two parts etc ? What makes it stay still when the method pile breaks down say with micros ? Cheers
@Sonubaits2 жыл бұрын
In two parts so the hookbait is buried below an initial layer of pellets. The heavier the hookbait the less likely it is to be moved away by pellets as they roll off the pile and a very valid point as it's for exactly this reason Jamie hasn't always been a big fan of wafters. So a bigger hook, or heavier hookbait will help it stay in the middle of the pile.

@@Sonubaits Thanks for the quick reply, if I’ve learnt anything from watching these top anglers it is that they have a huge repertoire of small changes they make constantly to hit on the best way to fish at anyone time, this is more ideas to try instead of sitting there not catching during a match…👍

Jamie said Nick gave him a tip of different gauge bayonets. The tubs of sinkers and wafters I have from sonubaits are rock hard and have bent loads of bayonets trying to spike them. I've given up on trying now. Be interesting to know how Jamie is using a bayonet with his??
@Sonubaits2 жыл бұрын
The liquid Jamie is adding softens the Band'Ums which makes them easier to get a bayonet into. Only need a couple of drops and they'll be soft enough to Bayonet and won't effect the buoyancy (for Wafters) obviously doesn't make a difference for Sinkers. Alternatively, screw the Bayonet in rather than pushing it. Takes a few seconds longer but you'll rarely loose a hookbait

One of the biggest problems with wafters is the variety flavours brands so I have now solely going to use sonubaits flouro and washed out in both wafters and sinkers
@malcolmfuller5890 Жыл бұрын
Would you have to use the same flavour liquid as the flavour of wafter,

Not necissarily - but to boost the flavour and not end up with a mix of two flavours we do advice doing so. 👌🏽

It's only my opinion but it begins to take away the keep it simple rule. The method feeder in itself accompanied by pellets moulded on to it was in its self brilliant but why do anglers have to make things less simple by using a wafter and then balancing with a hook! 2 inch hook length 3 or 4 all baits heavy or not get knocked about by the tail and fins and water tow. It might all look good in a tank but in the field it don't work like that and no bait is supreme to the other on the method it's just a target and a wafter is supposed to waft,so why use it at all. It does my head in.we'll be soaking them next,so to cap it all were being asked to buy a product that's not fit for purpose and dead maggots are better than live. Yer ok!
@Mark-mo6gt2 жыл бұрын
Great reply and you make a lot of sense, I think the top anglers are always after that few percent more, marginal gains or that one fish that makes the difference… Which doesn’t help if you don’t a good peg at the end of the day…
@marcwilkinson72262 жыл бұрын
Seems to me you have a lot to learn but are too ignorant to take advice of course dead maggots are better than live when fishing a commercial especially if its a soft silty bottom you feed live maggots in that they all wriggle away and into silt you feed dead maggots in it they stay exactly where you've fed them
@baldrickscunningplan61542 жыл бұрын
Spot on. I am all for keeping it simple. I have been adding a cheap supermarket product to my method Pellets this year, and it is definitely working. I want to have the same bait on the hook and feeder, but plain Pellets don't attract enough Fish on difficult Pegs. I don't want to use groundbait as many commercials won't allow it and I can't be bothered with all the swapping and changing. Plus the additional cost. Pellets are cheap. All Fish eat them, so for me. I am trying to find ways of making my Pellets better. Filling up my bait box with wafters,Sinkers,Fjukas etc. No thanks.

@Sonubaits2 жыл бұрын
Think a bit of personal preference comes into it! These are just Jamie's thoughts... main point being the hookbait must remain in the middle of the pile of bait so if it's in the water a long time he feels a Sinker achieves that more often. Whereas a Wafter is more likely to be moves away by small movements on the water.

Mixing a little pellet juice with molasses makes the wafters even heavier so you can use a lighter hook if needed.

So when Jamie is filming for matrix or winning ways wafters are shit. When filming for sonu baits they are great. 🤔
@Sonubaits2 жыл бұрын
Think he covers his thinking on that one pretty clearly? And has always said exactly that in previous Sonu videos as well. It is only a recent day on the bank with another angler that has made him think a little bit more about the use of Wafters, albeit he still more often than not reaches for a Sinking hookbait. However, see's a place for Wafters in certain circumstances and was simply showing a trick to alter the buoyancy of a Wafter to make it a little closer to how he wants them to behave.
@robertwren88782 жыл бұрын
I get that Richard and I think you boys are first class but for the video those circumstances I believe should be pointed out,what is set out in the video may and I say may work in your minds she in 3 feet of water but if it's 10-20 feet then even a sinker becomes buoyant cos of water depth and pressure so a wafter has no place in this circumstance except to pop it up. The same goes for dead maggots and live maggots believing live maggots bury or burrow there way into the silt which is impossible because they like us have to breathe,but they like us drown. I and I think everybody else would like the three of you discuss this on a next video. Once we were told that maggots had to be in top,top condition! Now we're told kill them??
@-SlamDunK-6 ай бұрын
Late to the party I know... My take away from this video is: In order to fish a wafter you must turn it into a sinker. As alluded to in the replies, it'll act pretty much the same as a dedicated sinker at depth and with fish/water movement anyway. Sorry guys, I like a lot of your media but this particular message seems a bit contrived, and ultimately useless.
