I had hold on from getting the sigma 16 because it seem too big. I love small set ups. I end up getting the sony 15mm used and its somewhat more competitive with the sigma price wise now

You know size wise they're not that different. The Sigma does have a larger glass element compared to the Sony one. However, the biggest difference hands down is the weight difference. Price wise, there still seems to be quite a difference from the listings I've seen lately, but money well spent to me. The weight difference alone is worth it though if you're on the go.

Jeez I can't decide. Should I keep my sigma 16 1.4 and Tamron 11-20 2.8 or Get the Sony 15 and 11
@DianaGladney

So, I'm a straight shooter so I'll be very honest with you on this mix and match of lenses you're considering. The 16mm and 15mm are SO similar and close, it's a very fine line of why you'd go the 15mm route and the focal length isn't it. Both are incredibly sharp and have the same aperture BUT the biggest payoff of the 15mm is it being super lightweight, the custom button and the manual aperture ring if you value that. However, if you don't care about any of that stuff, stick with your Sigma 16mm. If you do care about it and it'll benefit you, it makes sense to go the Sony 15mm route. The Tamron 11-20 f 2.8 and the Sony 11mm f1.8 are a much more different than they are alike. The 11mm is honestly in a class of its own because if you get this lens in your hands you'll instantly see a ton of possibilities with it and ways you want to use it. The added bonus of the custom button on top of the camera being super light at an f1.8 aperture. I won't say the Tamron isn't dope because it is but an f2.8 isn't going to give you the same aperture range as an f1.8. The fact you can keep it at an f2.8 is it's own great features but when you're looking at the fact neither of these lenses have stabilization you're either going to use Active stabilization or drop your files in Sony Catalyst Browse. Because of this, depending on what and how you plan to shoot, should help you decide. Of course, online all lenses and footage will look great and ideal but really consider how you plan to use what you have and choose based on that if you're trying to go the practical route. If not lol I guess you'll end up getting them all lol

The autofocus works really well on old Sony Nex 7 and Nex 5n which Sigma 16/1.4 did not (in low light). I got the 15/1.4 at a good price and I think is is fantastic for photography on those older bodys. I also got a ZV-E10 and it pairs nice with the 15/1.4. To me it is important traveling light with several cameras, lenses luggage etc for photoshoots. Looking forward for the day I can drop full frame and get good enough IQ from APS-C.

Hmm, interesting. I’ve never tried the NEX cameras personally but the AF of the Sigma 16mm is stellar on the newer Sony cameras. Glad you tested both to see which was better for you! The weight difference alone is a huge win!

I was very surprised when i tried it on the old cameras and hoped this was something that might come more further on like in a small 23mm f1,4 for Sony ops-c; very sharp and fast AF. I have used the Sigma 16/1.4 on Sony a6400 and it worked fine but on Nex 5n & Nex 7 it could not focus good in low light. I does not do video - this is just for photography. I am very happy with the ZV-E10 and the 25/1,4. The colors on the new Sony is very good even JPG high ISO looks fine. I love the old Nex cameras for street/art photographyThey are small, almost like Ricoh GR@@DianaGladney

Does putting an aps-c lens on a full frame benefit the bokeh? For whatever reason I can't find a clear answer. Thanks!
@DianaGladney
@DianaGladney Жыл бұрын
No, when you put an APS-C lens on a full frame camera, you have to still crop in regardless to remove the extreme vignette. There's no real visible or noticeable difference when you record that way. If you want the max bokeh a lens can provide, use the lens on its intended format of full frame or aps-c. These lenses for example still look great in APS-C mode on full frame, you're not just getting the max a full frame camera could do, gotta use full frame lenses. I've shared side by side of APS-C lenses on full frame cameras next to APS-C and hardly nobody could guess right and admitted they just happened to guess right but couldn't honestly tell a difference lol Hope that clears things up for you.

I am confused between Viltrox 13mm vs Sigma 16mm for Sony ZV E10
@DianaGladney
@DianaGladney 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that might be a bit of a tough choice depending on the goal of why you want the lens. 3mm doesn't seem like a lot but it actually makes a difference, especially since these are lenses for APS-C cameras. There is a bit of a price difference with the Viltrox being a bit higher, it can focus items closer to the front of the lens, and it's a bit heavier than the Sigma lens. For most creators the main factors will be quality (which both are great), the aperture ring and USB on the Viltrox lens (so it can be updated and improved via software), the extra 3mm on the Viltrox lens vs great quality and a great price for a super sharp lens in the Sigma 16mm. I honestly think most people will still go for the Sigma 16mm because of the price, quality and sharpness if they don't need or care about anything else. Plus, you can find gently used lenses for even cheaper. That Sigma 16mm will be a tough lens to beat but the Viltrox lens looks really great. Those are some of my thoughts if you're trying to compare the two.

@@DianaGladney Ok so according to you Sigma 16mm is still better in terms of quality of the lens & what it produces. My main priority is the quality & that too video only with great autofocus capabilities
@DianaGladney
@DianaGladney 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say "better" because it's hard to say when you're only looking at photos and images online. They are similar and the differences minimal. Both will give you great quality with great autofocus. I think over time, the Viltrox lens may win out in speed and accuracy because it has the USB-C port on the lens that allows them to update and continue to improve the lenses performance. Optically, though, they're very similar in sharp quality.

I have the Sigma 16mm 1.4 it is a great lens the video looks great, but its heavy and there is no manual switch for focus. So I thought using a small camera and lens at a wedding or other event more discreet the Sony 15mm 1.4 smaller lighter and looks sharper with manual focus switch and you can have the lens like a iris like video. The a6600 has a awesome picture good enough for 4K video I also have the 16 to 55 mm 2.8 Sony g lens which has a awesome picture also. When I buy A full frame lanes the crop factor will further stretch those lens. I thought 4k video with crop censer was enough filming with multi cameras at a wedding , but I guess you need full frame.

To be honest, unless your ear is super close to to the focusing motors, you can't hear it. Definitely can't pick it up on the mic. But the Sony is a bit quieter if that's what you're looking for. They're both great lenses but for the weight difference alone, the 15mm is a great option.

You know i own the Sony 35mm F1.8 since i bought the a6000. The integrated IS is _amazing_. Yes it´s not as sharp as the Sigma 30mm, but it is lighter and has the buildin IS. And the sharpness doesnt matter for video. I wish we could have the same as a 18mm F1.8 IS ... I just tested the Sigma 16mm, im really missing the IS. that said i don´t see a reason for the Sony 15mm. Just my 2c.

I am selling my Sigma 16mm 1.4 and buying Sony 15mm 1.4. I also own Samyang AF 12mm 2. That lens inspired me to keep my setup compact and lightweight. I also think (I might be wrong) that Sigma's focusing distance starts from the front element (not the sensor), which also makes it less handy for handheld vlogging (because of the lens length).
@DianaGladney
@DianaGladney 2 жыл бұрын
If lightweight is your jam, you'll get a lot of value out of the 15mm lens much lighter. Can't speak to the internal elements of the lens because I personally don't go that in-depth lol. My main concerns are does it focus quickly, is it quiet focusing steppar motors, and weight per feature set. The two primary places the Sigma 16mm misses the boat for me is the focusing motor noise vs the 15mm, the 15mm is a bit quieter but not enough to notice. Then, of course, the weight.

Yeah, that's very true, but to the right person, they don't want to carry or may not have need of two rather heavy prime lenses if all these need and would prefer is one light one. That's why it's always going to be dependent on the use case of the buyer. I think for those traveling a ton, they'd love to cut the weight of their gear bag with something like the new Sony lens.
