Thanks so much for the work you put on here. Tremendous job! Well done! After watching, I'm still torn between the two. I notice that the 105 has superior colors and slightly sharper image while the 240 has that crazy zoom with more-than-good-enough sharp image. If I had to purchase one right now, I would go with.... I still don't know, lol (Both are good lenses. With the 105, it's nice that you can zoom in and out with having a fixed aperture. With that 240... man, that's one crazy zoom ability. I still don't know brother. But you have certainly provided the information that I've been looking for) Much appreciated!

I have used both for over a year now. The 24-105 F4 is definitely superior within its zoom range and covers majority of situations at relatively superior quality.

We are in the same boat :). I even have 100-400mm also but most of the times I don’t want to carry multiple lenses and change them frequently. But when I need pro quality shots I switch to G or GM lenses.

Great review, exactly what i needed. I own the 24 105 but i need more zoom so probably i will buy the 24 240. I don't think i will sell the 105 at the moment, i asked in one of the shops and they were offering almost half the price that i payed. Not pleasant when you have something on the sensor, that it is a problem when you have to change lenses all the time, good that you sorted with a blower.

Unless you absolutely want to carry only one lens with 10x zoom, comparatively 24-105mm F4 is better lens within its zoom range. It depends on what is your objective. For example for birds and aircraft shows you may want to buy 100-400mm lenses and 240mm will still not be enough zoom. If you are looking for sports/action pictures then 24-240mm will not be fast enough compared to 70-200mm f2.8 lens. In my opening complimenting your 24-105 with one of these zoom lenses will give you better results. But this will cost more and require you to carry two lenses. So there is no one good answer that works for everyone but I just want to share what I know so you can make better decision.

The F4 aperture of 24-105 definitely gives you advantage on stabilization due to faster speed overall. Not sure about differences in stabilization mechanism. Please post here if you find anything further on this topic.

I'm wondering if you crop the 24-105 image in to match the 240mm if the image will actually be as good considering that it will have a lower ISO. How would these two look next to each other cropping the 24-105 to match the 240mm?

You can achieve same iso with either of them on a bright day. But in low light and at full 240mm zoom there will be significant difference due to f4 vs f6.3 aperture difference. Don’t have data to compare but I would take it as suggestion for future video. The FE 24-105G is very superior lens and my primary walkout lens today. I am never disappointed by it on a7iii.

Probably missed What camera body was used ? Are these JPEG or RAW and what resolution

It was A7III for all sample pictures and videos. Answer of your second question is JPEG. Your second question is really important because I learned after I made this video that in JPEG Sony does auto correction, like for barrel distortion, specially for the most Sony lenses. FE 24-240 is known to have barrel distortion which is common in zoom lenses with large zoom range like this one 10x.

Not sure which section of the video you are referring here, but looks like you are looking for very technical details. I suggest looking at professional lenses review websites like dpreview.

I appreciate the effort, but for future tests I think it's better to judge a lens by shooting things that have sharp edges, like buildings or a street scene, where you also can see the lens distortion at different focal length. Shooting empty fields with nothing solid except a frisbee catching chain stand, it's hard to make any judgement of how the lens will perform in real life, hard to tell if the grass is sharp or not. Actually the thing easy to see by your test is the vast focal length difference.

This is the first time I watch your video, and I have both of these lens, but I exchange my Sony 24-105 to my friend for Sony 24-70mm F.4, as soon as I got the Sony 24-70mm F.4 I sold it right away then I bough Sony 24-240mm I use this lens indoor, and outdoor for my family occasion, and I love it. The color of Sony is best, native lens has more advantage than any third party lens for its liability. I don't think any third party lens will be better than Sony lens cause there is no company can make better TV like Sony TV due to its color; therefore, I think Sony 24-240 mm is better than Tamron 28-200mm cause I have been using Sony 24-240 for over a year now.

Yes if you want to just buy one lense for your full frame SLR then 24-240mm will give you the most versatility. Also for travel it’s the best walk around lens. I think that is the case with most people who buy SLR camera for family pictures and occasional hobby.

The 24-105 is a G rated lens which means within 105mm zoom range its better than non G rated 24-240mm lens. But you cannot achieve reach that 240mm zoom can give you with software. Therefore if you need more than 105mm zoom in one workaround lenses then 24-240mm is better choice otherwise stick with 24-105 GM lens. Most new Sony cameras do in body corrections automatically for jpg pictures therefore it will be hard to see the difference when comparing jpg pictures. You can use raw images to see optical problems and make even better corrections in the software.

Yes a particle entered and sit on the the sensor surface when I switching the lenses multiple times for making these videos. I noticed it only when I started looking at the video on my computer. Since it does not affect what I was trying to show, I did not redo the video but I have cleaned the sensor after that. Thanks for watching video thoroughly :)

As a wise person once advised me, I used the the air blower to blow the dust. Never use mouth as air blower :) If that had not worked then I would have used the brush that is designed to clean sensor. Anything that scratches the sensor or require liquid to clean would be my last resort if absolutely necessary.

I am glad you liked the video. Here are my 2 cents after gaining little more experience with both lenses. If any one does not require more then 105mm zoom in one lens then go for FE 24-105 F4. It’s faster and optically better meaning can produce better quality image overall across zoom range. If you need larger than 105mm zoom range starting at 24mm in one lens only then FE 24-240mm is a better choice. But none of the leases is bad they just outperform the other in different situations like mentioned above.
