Thanks, I like these kind of lens reviews, they tell you way more than looking at a brick wall or hearing about longditudinal ca or whatever it's called!

I bought one yesterday for $500 used but basically brand new, but no hood and cap. Amazing lens, and I had Sigma 24mm f1.4 dg dn. They are both amazing and close in quality, Sony being more compact and lighter.

Some people might actually be better off with the Sony 20mm f/1.8 G lens if mostly using it for landscape, astro, etc. - many say it’s GM level good. Though, for portraits, if you actually need that wide of a lens then the 24 GM might be preferable. I generally prefer 35/40mm though, and I usually don’t like portraits at wider than 35mm much (personal preference).. Speaking of 40mm, I wish Sony would make a 40mm GM lens. I love my compact Sony 40mm f/2.5 G - it’s one of my most used lenses, but wish there was a really good f/1.4 GM version. If I’m not using a zoom lens, the 35/40mm are my most used primes by a large margin - I do mostly landscape, travel, etc.

I totally agree about the 20mm. Seriously good lens. 40mm is maybe my favourite focal length and I would LOVE to see a 40mm f/1.4 too. When I shot fuji I had the 27mm f/1.2 from Viltrox which is close to a 40mm equivalent and that was my favourite lens

I just purchased the Sigma 24mm because it was just a lot cheaper. 200g difference for like $600 was hard to justify. Using it for astro, indoor, and nighttime walk around.

Except that Sigma 24mm f1.4 DG DN is actually "only" 65 grams heavier than Sony 24mm f1.4 GM. :))

I just bought a used one. I connect it to a 50 1.4 and nothing else is needed. 🫡
