24 mm favours the environment and 50 mm favours the subject. This was one of those aha moments for me. Thanks Jason!
@LtDeadeye3 жыл бұрын
Traditionally, for stills, both 24 and 35 would favor the environment as it tells a story about where the subject is. 50mm is more of a balanced emphasis (neither here nor there yet it is the most versatile prime focal length. 85 and greater is more about who the subject is rather than where the subject is. Popular prime lens kits usually include either a combination of 24, 50 and 135 or 35 and 85.
@AnxiousEducator3 жыл бұрын
yeah that's pretty subjective My prime kit set uses a 24mm a 50mm and an 85mm. Having used 35mm a lot I just don't like it that much. I love 24, 50 and 85. I'd say 24 favours environment, 85 favours subject and 50mm is in between

@BiscuitLazers443 жыл бұрын
@@dikasochirin sure! the main problem I’ve noticed is the weather sealing isn’t the best, mine has collected quite a bit of dust in it compared to my other lenses, nothing that would ruin image quality but it bothers me when I glance into it. Also, it’s quite disproportionate for a mirrorless, a very large 50mm indeed. Lastly, the autofocus is quite loud, and it has a smooth metallic texture that is much less scratch resistant than the textured metal of G-masters. All nit-picks, other than that it has the best image quality I’ve seen from a prime other than the 135 g-master.

It’s a one stop difference, so double the light. I don’t think you’ll use this lens for fiction or commercials, but it is unusable for anything like that, every time you focus the frame zooms, it’s called breathing, and it’s the worst I’ve seen from any lens.

May I ask your opinion? First off, that auto focus is looking great! Do you think this is the right lens for me? Here’s my story. My videos are product reviews hands-on and close up. I want my shots as clear and crispy has possible with no blur except the background. Current problem: I’m using iPhone 13 Pro Max and it likes to be blurry. I guess because of the f1.5 or who knows what else. No matter the distance I hold my object, the camera seems to only want to focus on one aspect of the product. The buttons. The triggers. The handle. It…can’t just do all of it. Or when I get a good shot, it loses focus quick. So i spend way too much time on the recording process. Doing take after take trying to get it all in focus. This adds a lot of time to the editing process too because I have to sift through all of that. So that’s what has me looking at a big boy camera! Not to mention, I have been wanting to upgrade my quality and this seems like a way to kill two birds with one stone. So, with very limited knowledge, but learning quite a bit in the past few weeks, I have been looking into getting probably a Sony A7C. And a good lens. This way I can use it for the videos and the live streaming and also maybe take it to family functions on the holidays. So. I’ve spent the past few weeks narrowing it down and being set on the Sony 24mm 1.4 GM. But thankfully, I didn’t make the purchase because that might not be the best decision. See I was looking into 24mm because Google said iPhone 13 PM was 26mm equivalent. It wasn’t until today taking selfies in the mirror with my new lack of facial hair, that I once again realized that what you see in videos, looks more like real life, whereas photos on the iPhone kind of distort your proportions or something. So I flipped back-and-forth between the camera and the video until once again realizing, the video crops in on the camera! So I had it wrong this whole time!? I was wondering, because when I was looking at some of this wide 24mm footage, I was looking at it, worried that it would distort my images. That said, do you think 35mm would be closer to what iPhone videos are? 16:9 I think? I really like the field of view of my current videos I think. And my objects never get distorted, even if I hold them close to the camera. Is this the best lens to get for my type of content? I need good autofocus that will keep all of my product in view so I don’t have to constantly change focus or settings. And I need something that lets me get close to the object. Macro would be dope but not required. If you look at my video you can get an idea. I’m actually wondering now if 35mm 1.8 would be a better fit for me, allowing me to get closer. I won’t lie, those sample close-up shots of the figurine. Did not look very promising. That’s the type of shot. I hate. Only a part of the toy is In focus. Then, again, if I shoot 4K, which I have never done, I can always just crop in with editing, and I think we would be OK. I even do that now, but you lose a little bit of resolution. Would you say I’m on the right track for getting a solution for myself? I think it will be nice in general just not having a fixed aperture but maybe that’s not what the problem is to begin with. But maybe! Thankfully, my set up and continent is pretty consistent. So I think once I dial in the settings, I don’t have to change anything. Just keep my set up the way it is and press record.

Thank you so much in advance for any help you can give! I want these features, but at the same time I want the best shot I can get. That’s why I’m spending money and going with Sony. If the other lens is a downgrade since it’s not G Master, idk if it’s a good decision.

In theory, the Sony 35/1.8 makes a lot more sense, especially for hybrid shooters. However, I just don't like this lens. It is optically really good, but I like neither the straight form factor nor that you don't get a proper mount weather sealing for more than 700€. That's just not okay. Close-up IQ is quite a lot better on the GM, too. Plus, if you are user of a 7R body you get picky because most lenses can't really make use of these high resolution sensors. If you have a good zoom (in my case Tamron 28-75 G2) and you try any cheaper prime lens on your 7R series body, you are quite critical because you expect a prime to deliver better or at least on par results with a zoom lens. If I wanted to save money on 35s, I would go with Tamron's rather slow f/2.8 because it focuses very close at 14 cm and has really great IQ, however as soon as you also do video or have a high resolution body, it makes no sense to make experiments all the time. Put this G-Master on it and the discussion is closed.

Do you typically get two review lenses so you can shoot the review using the same lens that is in shot?

Hi, I'm Ivonne, thanks for your videos, I'm a beginner in photography, could you tell me what high-quality polarized filter I can buy for my Sony 35 mm 1.4 GM lens. Thank you for your advice.

Just ordered this. Had too, no way it can’t be in your camera bag if you have a full frame Sony Camera. People complain about the price but you gotta pay to play.
