Just picked one up a few days ago. Literally nothing to complain about except the focus breathing. That said, I'm using it on an A7IV and it has a new breathing correction feature and this lens is supported. It does apply a very slight crop, but breathing is basically completely eliminated. Not sure if the SIII or A1 already have this, but if not hopefully they get it soon.

Great lens! People sometimes critique Sony about the size of the mount, but on the other hand, it looks like it helps in have a super-compact kit, especially when it comes to the lens. I don't see anything as compact as Tamron zooms (17-28, 28-75, 28-200, 70-180) or Samyang "Tiny but mighty" primes on Canon/Nikon/Panasonic. Some of those Samyang primes are even smaller than lens mount on Canon/Nikon :)

The first and only opinion piece I saw about this went into great detail about how Sony's lenses were fundamentally limited by their ridiculously undersized mount and proceeded to list off a bunch of DSLR lens mounts as examples of how full frame mounts needed to be larger than what Sony was using. Without a hint of irony or awareness, or addressing the obvious contradiction, the list included the Canon EF mount which is about the same size as the FE mount, and the Pentax K mount which is *smaller*.

Stellar sharpness at 1.2f across the frame means that the bokeh and 3d separation is not that great. Majority of new design lenses suffer from this trait, Sigma ART series were the first ones to show this... 11 aperture blades are a good thing though, for 1.2f 11 is probably a minimum in order to make those bokeh balls round from 2f to maybe f4

“As with any GMaster lens the construction is very rugged…”. I don’t agree with this though. I have several GM lenses and they all feel like they are not going to last very long- plasticky and feels cheap. The resale value is very poor too, so I just decided to keep them. That being said the IQ is awesome, it’s just the build quality that is dubious. I had a Sony Zeiss lens 2 years ago and it felt premium and heavyduty compared to GM lenses.

Looks like a great lens for low light. I'm more photo concerned so focus breathing doesn't bother me much if it's fast to focus still. Would probably be my main lens if I used Sony.
