I have Sigma's 24-70 f/2.8 A for my Sony camera and I love it. It's a great lens, and a LOT cheaper than the Sony version! I have the Sony 50 f/1.8 and rarely use it because of the 24-70. As cool as this lens is, I dunno if I'd really ever use it, rather have to force myself to find reasons to use it.
@lapoupadotcom6 ай бұрын
I also have the Sony 50mm f/1.8 and I also rarely use it - because I hate it, haha. Terrible focus at night (very disappointing, since focus is possibly the best thing about the Sony system) and not very sharp at wider apertures. If I need the light then I almost always go for the 20mm f/1.8 (amazing lens!), unless I don't want the dramatic perspective distortion (but I usually do). I think this 1.2 would complement the 24-70 much more than 1.8, especially for the bokeh. Might not make so much sense if you already have an 85mm prime, though.

Sony shooters should be more upset that Sony throttles third party lenses on their fast shooting cameras. That’s like PlayStation only allowing their first party studio’s to utilize the full power of their PlayStation hardware. It’s anti competitive and disenfranchises great third party manufacturers like sigma and others who make unique and premium glass for their mount adding to Sony’s versatility and overall appeal to shooters looking to buy into the system.
@summonedfist6 ай бұрын

@@encryptededdywe need to make this a bigger issue. The more competition we can encourage on the mount, the better results we’ll see from manufacturers in terms of performance and value. And, sigma is working their butt off and Sony would be wise to treat them with the respect they deserve for adding so much value to the E-mount ecosystem. My goodness, this 50mm 1.2 lens is impressive, and may beat out the GM variant in most categories, save autofocus. (And again, that may be the result of proprietary compatibility) as an A1 shooter who shoots mostly on gm glass, Sony’s throttling truly does deter me and other from more seriously exploring third party options like this beautiful lens. Sony is shooting themselves in the foot with this one, in a similar way to Canon.

One good thing, while this is only 75 grams (670 vs 745 grams for L mount) heavier, it's just 2.8 mm larger diameter and actually 0.7 mm shorter - nice that it can fit in the same camera bag, but can it match the 35mm 1.2's rendering being this much smaller and lighter?
