I've got a Canon 50MM f/1.2 and I can tell you that if you're doing work in low light situations, like churches and conventions, you WILL notice that extra light coming in, even over an f/1.4. Thanks Sigma! You've consistently made great lenses!

It's crazy how few images most actual properly professional photographers and videographers actually shoot anything at as shallow as f1.2 or even f1.4, even if they have the lenses (most do). Still, if you're pulling in $$$$$$ for your work, it's worth it for the rare times you do, makes your shots at f2 or f2.8 sharper, and a few grand written off on taxes isn't going to impact you much

@@ulyssessait I'm hoping for a Sigma 85 1.2 and if it is similarly well sized and weighted, I'll replace my Sigma 105mm 1.4 with it. Even though I only use the 105 for planned photoshoots, it still is a bit unwieldy. I'm sure with a 85 1.2 the bokeh and aesthetic will be pretty similar and well worth the handling gains.

I have Sigma's 24-70 f/2.8 A for my Sony camera and I love it. It's a great lens, and a LOT cheaper than the Sony version! I have the Sony 50 f/1.8 and rarely use it because of the 24-70. As cool as this lens is, I dunno if I'd really ever use it, rather have to force myself to find reasons to use it.
@lapoupadotcom
@lapoupadotcom 6 ай бұрын
I also have the Sony 50mm f/1.8 and I also rarely use it - because I hate it, haha. Terrible focus at night (very disappointing, since focus is possibly the best thing about the Sony system) and not very sharp at wider apertures. If I need the light then I almost always go for the 20mm f/1.8 (amazing lens!), unless I don't want the dramatic perspective distortion (but I usually do). I think this 1.2 would complement the 24-70 much more than 1.8, especially for the bokeh. Might not make so much sense if you already have an 85mm prime, though.

Sony shooters should be more upset that Sony throttles third party lenses on their fast shooting cameras. That’s like PlayStation only allowing their first party studio’s to utilize the full power of their PlayStation hardware. It’s anti competitive and disenfranchises great third party manufacturers like sigma and others who make unique and premium glass for their mount adding to Sony’s versatility and overall appeal to shooters looking to buy into the system.

@@encryptededdywe need to make this a bigger issue. The more competition we can encourage on the mount, the better results we’ll see from manufacturers in terms of performance and value. And, sigma is working their butt off and Sony would be wise to treat them with the respect they deserve for adding so much value to the E-mount ecosystem. My goodness, this 50mm 1.2 lens is impressive, and may beat out the GM variant in most categories, save autofocus. (And again, that may be the result of proprietary compatibility) as an A1 shooter who shoots mostly on gm glass, Sony’s throttling truly does deter me and other from more seriously exploring third party options like this beautiful lens. Sony is shooting themselves in the foot with this one, in a similar way to Canon.

What Sigma hasn’t figured out yet for me is color and micro contrast. Everybody talks about sharpness, and the Sigma is right there with the Panasonic, but what you’re paying for with the Panny is beautiful color and perfect contrast. Hardly anyone talks about that.

If we are talking best 50 for L mount (Leica - SL2-S body) which would be better image-quality-wise - the Sigma or the SL 50 APO (considered as the best 50mm ever created)? Many say the SL50's look isn't like a f2 lens, especially the out of focus areas and falloff. It's more like a 1.4 with incredible sharpness and zero aberrations.

@PetaPixel it would be great if you guys would start testing lenses for internal reflections. It was never really a concern for me until I started noticing it in product shots on white, especially a dark object. The Sigma Art 24-70 has it particularly bad and I no longer use it for product work because of this. I am sure other people would be interested to know this since that photo category is in such high demand now.

$550 more than the 50mm 1.4 DG DN I have - and all the shots I've seen, I prefer the images from the 1.4. One good thing, while this is only 75 grams (670 vs 745 grams for L mount) heavier, it's just 2.8 mm larger diameter and actually 0.7 mm shorter - nice that it can fit in the same camera bag, but can it match the 35mm 1.2's rendering being this much smaller and lighter?
