How good is the sharpness of this lense @ 2.8 compared to the 135mm 1.8? Did you happen to compare it a little bit or maybe have some overal impressions on that?

Seems like a great lens. when I heard how much lighter it was. I was hoping that meant it was also smaller. I wish the Tamron 70/180 f2.8 was a 70/200 f2.8. or even 210, because its size and weight along with the price is a great option for people who don't want to spend $2800. especially if you aren't using it for fast moving sports that much. and mostly for portraits, I would like to see more images from the new Sony that show the background blur at 200mm. and also a comparison with the new Nikon which weighs allot more. and the New Canon which isn't an internal zoom. but is a cool size when not extended. when you point a 70/200 lens at someone they instantly get intimidated buy its size. one time when I visited relatives that I hadn't seen in years, everyone was taking pictures with cell phones inside the house. but I wanted some quality images, but when I pulled out my camera with the 70/200 everyone was shying away from it. like the cell phone shots were no problem but the big lens was a problem for some reason. it wasn't until I was outside with more room that people warmed up to the big lens. I am finding it really amusing how after all the talk about Nikon and Canon's bigger lens mounts. and how Sony's is smaller, neither company has really proven yet that their bigger lens mount has given them a image quality advantage. or given them the ability to make smaller glass. most of there glass is all bigger and heavier than Sony's. without having a quality advantage. just look at the 50 f1.2 lenses for example. the Nikon and Canon is like twice the size and weight of the Sony. and Sony still has a huge advantage with lens choices at different price ranges.

Good points! I am probably going to be doing a comparison with the Canon 70-200 but probably not the Nikon since I don't have that one and it isn't really different. But I think the Sony & Canon would be a good comparison to see who made the best design decision. I will say the Canon 70-200 is smaller in the bag but once you extend it, is basically the same size and actually a bit thicker so likely just as intimidating in use

Hi Dan, if I am using A7r4 with Sony 55mm 1.8 and Tamron 70-180 2.8 for mainly street and portrait, what is the better choice and value to upgrade for new 50mm 1.2 GM first or this new 70-200 2.8 GM first ? Cool car video 👍

P.S. I am an bokeh addict and kid’s shooter having 24mm 1.4 GM and 85mm 1.4 GM. Impressed with the close focus capability with those two new lens.

Thanks! So I'd probably stick with the 70-180 and instead get the 50mm F1.2 (which I LOVE). So yes, the new 70-200 GM is better quality both in build and image than the 70-180 but is also larger, and way more expensive and honestly the quality difference is not something you would see in anything except side by side images. The 70-200 will also offer better AF performance but you would really need to be pushing the physical limits of AF speed for that to matter. I'd personally get the 50 bhpho.to/3CSVD0o

Some lenses don't work well with teleconverters but this Sony lens is designed to work just as well with teleconverters

Hello Dan, did you notice internal movement when handling the lens? I got a copy of the mark 2, and there is something loose inside that does not feel right.

Not with this lens (although I don't have it at the moment to double check) but there are a few lenses that do and it is usually normal

I just got this lens and notice a slight continuous noise, almost like the sound of a tiny motor or fan running, whenever it is attached to my A1 and powered up. Is this normal? Do you hear it coming from your lens as well?

The Sony is only lighter with the tripod collars on. With the collars off, the Canon is actually lighter. The spin machine from Sony is pretty amazing, but the reality is there is basically no real weight difference.

🐑,did canon tell you can not use a t/c on their 70-200mm ,even if you are correct 3mm difference no one would notice ,the sony is superior in every aspect ,other than when you pack it in a bag ,i guess it shows canon intent keeping the lens in the bag

3mm would be nothing and that Canon has way more focus breathing so depending on your focus distance, it's not even close to 200mm. Most lenses are not perfectly accurate on focal length anyway and by WAY more than 3mm
