I have just got this lens to go with the new A6700 and am very impressed. As a wildlife photographer I am used to long lenses being heavy, such as my 400 GM F2.8 weighing 3kg. I find this 70-350 with the A6700 quite liberating, to have the reach without the weight, and it will now be my lightweight walk about wildlife lens. The image quality I find comparable to the 200-600 G full frame lens, both with F6.3 aperture at the long end.

I actually bought this lens to use it on my full frame Sony A7C body, for mainly photographing my kids’ sports activities and I couldn’t be happier. I had gotten rid off all my heavy equipment and started carrying smaller and lighter equipment. For the recreational shooters like me, this lens is very satisfying. It produces superb images that impresses all our friends and the extra reach it provides when used on a full frame camera is really nice.

How is the quality with a full frame body? I want to get one but I'm concerned about the loss of resolution when using it on a FF camera.

I did the same. I'm hoping that, I don't find the vignetting too irritating. My rationale is that anything I zoom in full on I would probably be looking to crop anyway 😬

I have been using this on my A7C and it can cover the FF sensor from 70-150, I keep looking for another telezoom but this thing is the truth. If I did upgrade it would be the 70200GM.2 + 2x Teleconvertor ($3500) For the money you can't do better in this size....

I've got the 70-200mm f4 right now but I'm thinking of selling that and buying this one. I've just bought the a6700 and would love to do some wildlife photography and the 70-200 just isn't enough zoom. Can I compare the image quality between the two or will it feel like a step back?

Yes, especially if you need really far reach in your shots. the sharpness is good similar to the sigma 18-50

@@ArronPrescott Sorry to bother again ..I have one doubt .. With this lens , if I'm at the Max zoom level which is 350, then the f would be 6.3 . And if im pointing towards the sky that time with 50fps and 100 shutter speed, then most probably the footage would be over exposed (2+ and blinking) or underexposed sometimes .. How can I properly expose my footages with this variable f stop ?

I have this lens and like it quite a bit. I used the Canon 100-400mm zoom lens on my Canon 7D Mk2 camera. The 70-350 lens, mounted on my Sony A6600 crop format camera is very close to the equivalent focal range of the Canon setup, at less than half the weight of the Canon. The Sony setup provides VG to excellent IQ and additionally takes advantage of the excellent Eye AF (both human and animal) from Sony. However, I like to use my telephoto lenses for portraits and while the small maximum aperture of the Sony 70-350mm lens is OK for studio portraits (since I will often shoot these at f/8 of so), it falls far short for outdoor portraiture in which I often need or desire to blow the BG out of focus by using a wider f/stop. I don't like the pseudo short DOF which can be attained with Photoshop. I am fortunate that I have a full frame Sony A7iii which I use for portraits with my Sony 70-200mm f/4 and Sony 85mm f/1.8 lenses. The f/4 of the 70-200mm will, at longer focal lengths provide the ability to blow the BG OOF. The 85mm f/1.8 is pretty well a perfect portrait lens. If, I only owned a crop sensor Sony camera, I would want to back up the 70-350mm lens with a Sigma 56mm f/1.4 lens for portrait work. The 56mm lens is not all that expensive and it is realitively light weight. It would make up for the slow aperture of the 70-350mm lens.

@@pegberlin Before buying my first apsc camera, I would have said, go for the smaller one as the camera is portable, but let's be honest, there is nothing portable about APSC after you add in any lense that is not the pancake kit lense that comes with it, so go with the 50-400

I got rid of my Tamron. It was too fat/heavy and unwieldy. If I had seen it hands on I would have dismissed it right away. I bought the Sigma 100-400 which is smaller in diameter. It works well on my Sony A6700.@@pegberlin

I have a Sony A6000 and would love to be able to get better wildlife photos. I currently have the kit telephoto 55-210 which is ok but not brilliant. As I live near loads of nature reserves in Somerset I have lots of opportunities around me. Will this lens suit my camera do you think? I’ve seen a second hand one.

Also have a6000 with sigma 1.4 16, sigma 2.8 18-50 and Sony 55-210. My next upgrade will be this Sony 70-350 and later a6400. In my opiniom this zoom is the best in this price range. :)

I would say about the same with the latest gen (a6600, a6400 & a6100) in terms of image quality and AF. Handling would be a bit different i think (smaller grip & different buttons on the zv-e10)

I use it with the ZV-E10, it's a beast of a lens and in spite of the lack of EVF on the ZV-E10, it's a very capable photography APS-C camera too. Incredible images punching far above what you'd expect from a camera+lens combo costing (if on sale) below £1,000 ($1,200). The ZV-E10 lacks IBIS from the A6500/A6600, but the OSS in this lens makes up for that. The small grip means you absolute need 2 hands when shooting with this lens, unlike most other lenses that you can still 1-hand on the ZV-E10. For photo/video quality, you lose nothing compared to the A6000 series. My favourite lens, it's great for on-the-go telephoto which unlocks a world of new shots that most setups (and any phone camera) can't capture.

When you are planning to use the lens on tripod only then differences might not be very noticeable when not pixel peeping, when you are using this lens hand held at 300-350mm with a camera without IBIS then the Sony is worth every extra penny it costs!

The Tamron 70-300mm is a nice length and lighter weight than the 18-300. I use it on my A6700. The Tamron 18-300mm It has very mixed reviews that put me off getting one.

It's a great lens, with one huge downside. The only time it isn't sharp is at 350mm when you are focusing on a far away subject.... which was what I found myself doing 95% of the time.
