After reading all of these comments and re-watching this video 3 years after release, I want to clarify my stance. The Batis 85mm IS full frame, no question. I probably should have worded my thoughts differently in this video. It's clear that when you look at the mount side of each lens next to each other, they are roughly the same "FF" size. Though I still do stand by my "crop" and "fly by wire" comments in this video. The Sony definitely beats the Batis in those categories even if it's only because of the IBIS from the Batis or a better/smoother/more accurate fly by wire focusing system in the Sony. Always appreciate the feedback!

I disagree with your perception of the Zeiss not being a full frame lens. Do more research.

hahaha and what did he mean by "you can see the Zeiss moving around because the stabilization" The GM doesn't have any stabilization but was completely still... is he using different cameras? a tripod for the GM but not for the Zeiss? what am I missing? I've never seen a more biased review haha

@@craigman7262yes, this reviewer misses entirely the function and end results expected from a lens. Judging a lens as bad just because of focus breathing and pixel peeper. I suspect he is a newbie in photography. Using/buying a lens not to enjoy the way the lens melt into your hands, how light it is, the Wow results when we print the picture.

E-mount has nothing to do with full or crop sensors. Batis is full frame lens. It may be not true 85mm (could be 86mm or 87mm) because of stabilization (OSS) which somy GM doesn’t have

What?? Batís line no Full frame? What are you smoking?

Are you joking? Zeiss Batis lenses are full frame, only it might be the case that sony 85's (1.8 or 1.4) are slightly wider compared to Batis 85. These Zeiss Batis series of lenses, technologically are way ahead of their time, specially the Batis 85mm is still relevant in 2022!

Do You confuse feelings with facts? Loving Your g-master does not free it from bein focus-by-wire as well. And wanting to divorce the Zeiss connot reduce it's full-frameness!

20% crop of Batis?! I don’t know how this guy got that result - it’s magic! 🧙♂️ I tested all Batis lenses vs their GM/G counterparts, Batis has absolutely no crop and is a real FF lens. Btw, I prefer the Batis because of its much stronger microcontrast giving that 3D-Pop effect. GMs are definitely great lenses also, but too „clinical“ for me.

I own both I use the Batis where AF speed is important, plus because somewhat weather sealed and lighter it is a travel lens The 1.4 GM is a “studio lens”. I enjoy the manual aperture setting and yes it can give better DOF separation, but that is frequently too narrow. The MTF suffers at F1.4. Yes, I never found a need for the OLED display of any of my 3 Batis lenses BTW: The SEL50F14Z is a very great lens, just as is the Batis 135. I also own both of those

Oh my goodness, you just infuriated many Zeiss fans! Please check your facts first! Zeiss Batis are lovely full frame lenses, and this 85mm is a special lens with gorgeous micro-contrast, colour reproduction, character and all things Zeiss.. . Love the channel though... on wards and upwards...

No-one use EF mount in the name of the optique. Sigma doesn't use on the art series. Tamron doesn't use EF too on the full frame lense. They only use the E mount name like zeiss ! The Zeiss look to be cropped a little because of the integrated distortion. correction.

Thank you for highlighting that the Batis is not quite full frame! These are the little factors that separates the good from average reviewers!

It's been said it's not cropped.
@agjios2 жыл бұрын
If it wasn't full frame, then that means that if you looked at the photo on your computer, then it would be cropped. That is not the case, using the lens on your camera, the edges are not dark. Pixels are not cropped off of your photo.

Apparntly that Dude cannot handle his camera and his lenses. Please stop doing these reviews when you write nonsense. One KZbinr more that just makes reviews to get clicks. I have the Batis line and 3 GM's (14, 50, 135) and 5 G's (90, 12-24, 24-104, 70-200, 200-600). They are all fullframe. Perhaps the Batis with stabilistion are 1-2mm more in focal lenght. But on the contrary the GM 50mm 1.4 ist more a 48mm. There are some mm differences but thas is with many lenses. To say Batis are not FF is just stupid.
