Thank you for the work in making this video. Wished more KZbin videos focused on straightforward scientific tests and made conclusions from the data without added hype.

Thanks for this video. I was shooting mostly on M and for shooting clients with white dress it gets overexposed and its very difficult to recover,. Im going back to L to ensure recovery. I didnt have this highlight issues before they introduced S,M,L raw file types. I then shifted to M raw shooting and was plagued with overblown highlights. I tend to underexpose to hopefully recover. It works sometimes but sometimes it dont. Watching your video made me reconsider L raw as it seems to be the safest raw file type which recovers highlights mostly. Im using A7iv so hopefully its the same with the A1.

So it looks like it is essentially adding the pixel data to reduce size. This is appropriate to preserve details in the shadows. If Sony had decided to save as 16 bit raw files this would not be an issue. The other take away is don’t overexpose when shooting reduced size.

Good video. very useful. I think I'm going to stay on the L setting for most shooting for clients. M/S mainly for personal use.

Definitely -- the image quality out of the large RAW file from the Sony A1 is just so beautiful.

Many thanks. Simple comparison and very clear result. Very useful. Would be great to have a possibility to separate different qualities for the two card slots. I mean M or S for a back up only.

Just do HEIF backup, they will look better than M/S raws.

thanks for this video. I was trying to find put the difference between Uncompressed and L in term of quality. Especially for landscape. Did you do some testing? best Gio

I haven't done that kind of testing (yet).

Is the large raw lossless compressed or uncompressed?

Yes, lossless compressed RAW.

@@neilvn ok cool it’s surprising the difference. I’ll be less tempted to use the smaller raw now on my A7RV. Is there a difference in the shadow recovery to or just in highlights?
@neilvn5 ай бұрын
I only checked highlight recovery. I still often use medium RAW - I’m just careful about exposure.

@@neilvn I think for most things it will be alright. Sometimes I shoot boxing matches with almost black room light and spot lights on subjects that changes constantly for those I’m thinking maybe full size would be better just in case it’s very fast paced and not much time to re-adjust settings. Thank you for the video though and the one about bounce flash I learned a lot in that one

Why did you use ISO 400?

It’s mid-range

@@neilvn iso 500 is cleaner

@@cstone710 -- this isn't about high ISO noise, this is about highlight recovery.
