Sony A1 vs Sony FX3 | 8k or Flip Screen?

Fortunately,I had both of them! Literally there’s lot of difference between them Not in quality that much but in purpose 🔥 As far as I’m concerned, Fx3 is worth in-terms of technical side … If you guys are looking for photography & videography at the semi professional level. Photographer’s best choose ever. You can do both at high quality footage 👉🏼A73 for sure… If you are focusing more flimic like videos with more advanced settings ( SLR inputs ,colour tone , higher frame rate , frame free camera , portable, build quality, weather sealed, Cooling fan,waterproof….) and also like to take photographs ,fx3 is your camera.

Nice video! DCI 4K is 4096 x 2160 while UHD is 3840 x 2160. UHD is exactly four times the resolution of HD, so it keeps the consumer-standard 16:9 aspect ratio. DCI 4K, on the other hand, is a little wider with an aspect ratio of 19:10

Thank you! The output is wider but the shot itself isn’t. You lose framing on the top and bottom but you can achieve the same exact frame shooting 16:9 and then bringing into a dci timeline .. plus you’ll have room to reframe your height a little

I have the FX3 and love it. The low light for real estate is amazing. Also if you use the handle you have to get the mount that the guys over at The Creative Cup youtube channel have made. I've been using the V2 on a bunch of shoots for events and a few interviews I did for a tv show and it's awesome. Can't wait for the V3 to come in. One of these days I'll make a video about my thoughts on the FX3... if I ever get brave enough to haha.

I'm not a math guy, but I'm not sure that 4K DCI would be a bigger crop than 3840 x 2160 already is. The actual usable resolution of the a7SIII/FX3 sensor is 4240 x 2832 so there's enough horizontal resolution to do 4K DCI without an extra crop and it seems like UHD 4K is more of a crop. I've said crop too many times, goodbye. Love your videos

DCI trims some off the top and bottom .. maybe I was misleading by using the word crop but it technically is. So if you film the same shot twice… once in 16:9 and the other in DCI .. the dci would show less of your shot on the top and bottom .. so you can just film in regular 4k and make it look just like dci in post .. and actually if you do it in post you’ll have the spare room to reframe the height as well

@@TheEverythingMan That would be the case if you're cropping into a 16:9 aspect ratio to get a 17:9 ratio. But DCI 4K is the same 2160 pixels high as 4K UHD. A 4K DCI readout of the sensor wouldn't crop anything off the top or bottom, just give you more on the sides. I think

The A 1 is amazing bro, I use mine with a 24-70 sigma. $6000 but it’s worth it in my opinion. It’s a great all around shooter but it definitely shines more with those 50 megapixel images for photography.

Great video. I purchased an FX3 when it came out. It was an upgrade from my Nikon Z6 which had the ProRes RAW upgrade. Video-wise the FX3 is heads and shoulders above my previous setup and the 4K is glorious. One of the best features is the autofocus which is so good that it's spellbinding. One of the worst features is the menu setup, it's not a friendly experience and seems like something a coder designed with the UX artist being excluded from the project. Another minus is the screen which is tiny and lo-rez. My Ninja V has been coupled with my FX3 ever since I started shooting with it and I can't imagine filming anything just using the Sony screen. The screen in my opinion is just a reference monitor for the menu system, and not something that should be used by itself for serious production. I learned that you might as well throw out your top handle if you plan on using a SmallRig cage like the one I purchased. This is something I'm personally fine with since I have a Rode VideoMic Pro+ and use Zooms for XLR lav audio. All in all I don't think you can purchase a better video camera for this price range, which simply means that the FX3 is the best video camera under $4K.

For my work, I don’t need 8K and none of my clients need it or have use for it. Uploading commercial content to their website would make 8K way larger files and much slower loading time. 4K is even overkill most of the web content uploads faster with 1080p files. My FX-3 is optimal for my workflow. I’m going to add another FX-3 because when you do this for a living, having a backup camera is absolutely necessary.

I own the fx3 for petty much what you said and I do believe it’s a cinema camera because it’s video centric, if someone buys a fx3 to shoots stills there a total amateur and need to do more research. hey man Nice video. I have just got back from Olympics using an A1 and A9ii , but returned them back to Sony now and looking at getting into this KZbin game more. A1 for stills is insane good. Being able to punch in on those huge files makes life so so easy, and the AF means you can't miss. Should I get an `fx3 to make onto KZbin, or an A7siii.??!

@coopsrun - wondering which route you ended up taking? I have the A1 for stills and love it (loved it so much - I sold my GFX systems to invest in some additional lenses - no regrets. Side note - the GFX system is also really good and AF for MF is great but still AF for MF - especially for video). I recently picked up an FX-3 and am testing the waters with it. The A1 video I've found to be really good but its too much work switching from high speed strobe photography over to 1/50th video for Hybrid shooting, which is why I'm testing out the FX-3. My def note - is the A1 at its base ISO's for video (I think 800/4000) is very nice. The FX-3 at base ISOs (640/12800) is also very nice. However, on the FX-3 between 3200-12000 is not that stellar clean image with amazing dynamic range. Same to be said about the A1 was you start getting into the 10,000 ISO range. Being mostly a stills person, I'd never consider ISO's above 6400 but for video work (with the 1/50th 24FPS 180 degree shutter rule - I find having the 12800 ISO great although it still feels strange to use an ND filter indoors at times)

An FX3 makes absolutely no sense to me, I would never own a camera without an EVF… What if you’re out in bright glaring sunlight and you’re trying to compose or even see if you’re in focus… Do you think the back screen will be good enough? Well it won’t be. If you’re buying it for use with a drone or in studio only… That’s a different story. Otherwise a camera without an EVF is just plain stupid. Which is too bad because the FX three has great potential.

If using on cinema productions no need for either a screen or viewfinder. You're going to use the HDMI out to your external monitor on your rig
