A quick video specific review of the Sony a5100. I answer some of the questions I first had when I was looking at this camera. Does the Sony a5100 overheat? How is the auto focus? Is the image stabilization any good? Hows the battery life? Is the image quality any good? I also include footage of the iPhone 7 plus to give you some comparison. I also show the audio difference between the iPhone 7 plus, the zoom h1 audio recorder, and the Sony a5100. Does the a5100 make a good vlogging camera? Hope this video helps!😁

Commented previously. I now have several a5100's. Best gimbal cam you can find for $250 or so. Auto-focus is really good. With Camoodoo app you can use a smartphone as monitor and remote. You can even touch focus from the app. Every time I see an a5100 2nd hand I go look. If it's pristine, I buy it. 3 now, and looking for 1 more. Great cameras!

Picked up a used one after I found your video a while back. Its been fine. I use mine with a Samsung camera as a remote monitor using the Sony app. Like you, I never have had an overheat problem and I live in Saigon. But also am same as you about long takes. Most of my takes are less than 2 minutes. Haven't tested for longer takes, but will sometime when I'm not busy using the camera. Appreciate the good review.

I live in the UK now, and my a5100 ran for 15/20 mins before overheating. In the winter it may run for longer due to the cool temperature. The higher the temperature the more likely it is to overheat. great camera though

Sitting here watching your video with my a5100 running and just passed 10 minutes and has not shut off. Saying that no one can use this for longer than 5 minutes is very misleading. User mileage will absolutely vary based on environmental factors. You’re in the Blue Ridge Mountains so it’s most likely your humidity and temperature. I think you’re laying into this a little bit too heavily. Otherwise great comparison.
@shottowerproductions283

No not misleading at all. The first time you press record can go well over 5 minutes. After that no matter the temp it will overheat. A simple one time 10 minute clip is not what this video is about. This review is for people who use their cameras for videos production on a regular basis for KZbin. Just had this camera overheat after 5 minutes in 11 degree F weather. For simple single videos it’s fine. If you intend to set it up and let it run you’ll have problems. Just my experience. Thanks for watching 😀

Agree, with Adam, most people dont understand that a device does not react to heat like a human, Most components will operate in spec to the melting point.

@@shottowerproductions283 It would have been better if you said "MY a5100 overheats after 5mins..." it's always better to express with uncertainty when it's about strange negative experience. Liked your video though :)

Great review, thanks for being real. People don't understand it usually takes a lot of small clips to make a 20 minute video, very few are one take. I love my Sony(s), you can't beat the quality of image and video for anything close to the price.

0:27 . "does the Sony A5100 overheat? - Yes it does." Thank you very much, i clicked like, moving on to research a camera that doesn't do this. Why can't Sony just make a camera that WORKS all the time instead of less than 80 percent of the time! frustrating.

I have a Sony 5100, and overheating depends on the type of card you use, this is explained in the instructions, you need a good card to avoid overheating

Oddly, have never had an overheat problem with my 5100. Normally a long shot for me is less than 5 min, but have done a few interviews and it ran 15-20 minutes without stopping or giving a warning. I am in Saigon, hot here.

I understand that yours might be a relatively small niche compared to the KZbin general public, but I really don’t understand why your channel isn’t much more successful. Try to keep it up and don’t let it get you down, and maybe post something vlog-like every once in a while on this other one! Much love from Italy

Yes, a touch sensitive screen that flips out to the side and can rotate to face the front is such a useful feature :-) It also allows one to protect the screen when not in use by flipping it in toward the camera body - something the tilt only screens can't do, and I hear people say the Sony screens get scratched pretty easily. Hope you'll be lucky with your screen. The image quality of the Sony cameras is great :-)

Can tell you this... A6000 overheats too... BUT... only after around 30 minutes... they sell an aluminum cage that helps in dissipating heat... believe "Neewer" is the company...also... A6000... no touch screen. Food for thought.
@shottowerproductions283
@shottowerproductions283 7 жыл бұрын
+RESTLESS OUTDOORS ahh.. I thought the a6000 had a touch screen. The touch to focus screen is a feature I use all the time. 99% of the time the overheating doesn't bother me. I may eventually switch to canon. Their models seem to be more user friendly (flip out screen, touch screen, mic input, no overheating). Still like the a5100 though. Been a good camera so far.

sony a5100 vs canon mark g7x mark ii which one you suggest
@shottowerproductions283

I think it would depend on what you plan on doing with it. The a5100 has interchangeable lens options. But it doesn’t have the small for factor. The g7x will be smaller overall but doesn’t have the auto focus the a5100 has.

@shottowerproductions283
@shottowerproductions283 6 жыл бұрын
I didn’t mess with either audio source. The h1 is capable of producing much higher sound quality through editing or a simple bass boost. The camera audio is what it is. Not much can be done in post with out it sounding really bad. Thanks for watching 😀
