To some people, smaller size is everything. A lot of our friends have nice big cameras, but it's my wife that takes ALL their pictures because her small Canon point & shoot is always in her purse while all they ever carry are their phones. So pathetic to see them photograph their kids' birthdays in poor light with an iPhone from 30 feet away (not to mention recitals from 100 feet to the stage). The 5100 is the closest yet at getting a purse-sized mirrorless with big camera quality, though I REALLY wish they would have included quick menu assignability. Teaching her where all the settings are will be a chore.

youmongrel Thats the RX100III job. Its the only jean pocket camera out there than can almost be compared to a cheap DSLR quality. This thing at best can fit in a large jacket picket or large purse only if it has pancake lens.

Hm, better choice depends on why you are buying it. I e.g. already have a full frame camera and I'm looking for a secondary camera that fills the gaps it presents and is compatible with the same lenses. So where are the gaps: - Small - Touch screen focus - Flip screen for selfies - Cheap, but still good optical quality For me the A5100 is clearly the better choice.

I bought my wife a5100 + 20mm f2.8 pancake lens. This combo fit her handbag nicely. The touch focus is a nice bonus. Where as the a6000 is very close to the DSLR in term of AF performance, but its not quite there yet. Sony lens selection is not as good as Canon or Nikon. So I'm keeping my 5DMk3 for now. IMO, a5100 is definitely a better choice if size is important to you, and a6000 is just a poor alternative to DSLR.
@BoraMarkovic9 жыл бұрын
David Chao The size difference is so small making both of them NOT pocketable at all. Of course you can fit them in jacket pocket with a pancake lens but thats it. You cant fit the 5100 anywhere where u cant 6000 as the size is really close
@dc99yt9 жыл бұрын
When the pancake is only 20mm, and P1650 is 30mm, that is a 50% increase, quite significant. The a5100, with pancake is 56mm and with P1650 is 66mm, it is a 20% increase. When it's in your jacket pocket or wife's handbag, it is quite noticeable.

good points -- major point for me is the lack of an external mic input on the a5100, a real dealbreaker against the a5100, also read marquix.net/light-cameras-for-meaningful-professional-video-production/ I also prefer the external dials on the a6000... That 'fix' with the proprietary mic connectors behind the hotshoe still is bad enough, actually should be treated as an overall LACK of external mic inputs, but I am currently in the process of testing those options.

They are all perfectly sharp. The look in my shots is achieved by overall processing and slight sharpening applied as the final stage after the images were resized to 1920x1080 pixels - exactly as the final destination (full HD video) will be. For web and video I use smart sharpen tool in Photoshop; settings: radius 0,2, amount usually 20-50 depending on the scene and set "lens blur". In workflow, sharpening should be applied in final stage after all other adjustment are finalized.
