Now I was wondering if this is true. When shooting pictures of my children I can imagine that a faster (tracking/eye) AF will be a plus. My children (and probably anyone's children) never sit still so it is always a hassle to get them in focus. I'm using a Nex-6, so that is even one generation older than the A6000. But I can imagine that the newer A6400+ generation camera's will have an advantage when shooting stills of quick moving objects.

I've just picked up a6000 with kit lens and 55-210 for 250CAD$. Quite happy with the deal, love the AF performance from an almost 10 years old camera.

I had been using a6000 for 4 years, it is best for photos. I changed it to ZVE10 when I started to do more on videos for my family activities.

Good comparison and valid points, Jason. Sony has come a long way since the A6000. I purchased the A6000 soon after it was released, when it was ahead of its time, and competition, but had some issues. You could download small “apps” to add features - not now. There were few native lenses, but the E-mount made for good adapted lenses. The hot shoe was fussy, the shutter noisy. Panorama mode was frustrating. Early units had lens mount light leaks, but you could easily replace them w/3rd party offerings. The flash was small, but you could tilt it backward. Disappointing battery, but very light weight camera overall.

Viewers LOVE how you show both camera bodies to demonstrate the differences in size and shape. Also, I paid close attention to the ease in which the back screen on the A6700 swings to the side, so smoothly. I recommend everyone go to a camera store and handling the Sony A6700, A6600, Fuji, and Canon cameras, WITH attached lenses (the 18-135mm and 70-350mm sony zooms are fantastic and inexpensive for what they do, lightweight, and perfect for traveling). Compare the sony A6600/6700 to other cameras-I love the form factor of this camera

The card slot on the a6000 makes it a pain to remove. The card slot, better focusing, flip screen, and IBIS are worth the upgrade for me. Ordered it last night. When I started photography the a6000 had just came out. Tried some Nikon and Canon along the way as well but I'm sticking with Sony. Just upgraded glass last year. Good review man.

I was on the fence but you talked me into keeping my a6000. Biggest reason? I don't do video (except for KZbin etc for which 1080p is plenty good). Plus I like to travel light and the a6700 is half again as heavy! I do like the flip screen and the weather sealing though.

I'm on the way same fence. Upgrade to to A6400. I mostly shoot portrait and my camera only has about 6K shutter count... But the AF and focus points on the A6400 is pretty impressively.

If I had to replace my a6000 it would be with the a6400. It has a lot of small improvements I'd actually use like I mentioned plus a better EVF, better screen, slightly better auto focus, electronic shutter etc. Good luck with it.

The A6000 is still an amazing camera, I use mine all the time and love my silver body. The biggest upgrade is the added control wheel. And i do plan on getting the 6700 before summer

The A6400, at half the price, would make for a great comparison. How much better in real life is the AF? How much better is the built quality? How much more responsive is the screen for touch focus? Is it instantaneous? Is the IBIS head and shoulders above that of the A6500? Does the AF make a difference in day-to-day situations? Has the start up time been improved?

The a6400, now in my son's hands, is leagues better than then a6500 and the a6700 is leagues ahead of the a6400. But what the a6600 and a6400 have is far better autofocus than the older machines. Startup in my a6600 is instant while slow in my a6500. I will experience this issue when mine arrives early next month. What I like about the autofocus in the a6700 is that it is more refined over the A74. It comes from the A7R5, a machine that costs $4,000 US. It now includes bugs, planes, trains and automobiles. This will help me photographing bug as they do not stand still for anyone. While I like the A74, I feel the a6700 is going to overshadow it. That thing is going to breathe new life in aps-c cameras.

The a7RV in real world didn't focus any faster than the a7 IV. It just had more modes to focus on particular objects but as some have noted. They never had a issue focusing on planes, cars and trains. I mean they are super big objects.

The a6000 was the camera that started my mirrorless journey, moving from Pentax system. They are fabulous cameras and I owned two in the beginning. I upgraded to an a7ii, then the a7rii and then the a7iii. I sold my last a6000 and purchased an a6400 which is a companion to my a7iii. Now looking to upgrade the a6400 for the a6700.

It is a good camera even by todays standards, the tech is a little outdated. The image quality is still comparable, although the colours especially the skin tone rendering has been much improved over the following cameras. For me it has been the af improvements that has been the driver to upgrade as I primarily shot portraits. I purchased the a6700 yesterday for the fully articulating screen to enable me to use the camera at low and high angles etc.

Truth is image quality hasn't change and it probably won't for a while. The biggest advancements will be improvements in AI and the ability to share faster like people do with smartphones. which they are kinda doing a better job of. I just did a event and was sharing photos instantly from Sony's creators app.

Jason you are the first man I heard talking any sense about the resolution of the EVF and the main view screen; even the guys from the DP Review nitpick about this and I always ask why?.....the EVF and view screen are to compose and to check focus, in the review phase the image is jpeg and not what we see when we view our raw images

Hi Jason! Great comparison video! I've got the 6400 myself and generally pair it with the Tamron 17-70. Been tossing up whether to sell+upgrade to the 6700 so i can keep the lens, or would you suggest jumping into full frame and new lens? I recently came back from a trip overseas and noticed that while the 6400 took great shots, I tend to crop into photos more and am losing quality with the crop (hence why i'm thinking of going FF). Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks a million!

Picked up an a5100 and a 35mm 1.8 I can definately get some good portraits with that. Like the comparison! been waiting for this release since i sold my Canon M200. The a6700 seems like its worth it over the ZVE10 with 4k60 better rolling shutter and weather sealing.

I found the text (ie ISO/aperture values) through the viewfinder on the a7c is MUCH smaller than the a6000 making it very hard to read. Can you compare the a6000 vs a6700 please?

A bunch of the features touted in this compare, like ibis and higher resolution evf, were also in the a6500 and a6600. a6600 also has the new battery. And autofocus improved drastically from the a6000 to the a6600. This compare feels a little like stacking the deck in favor of the a6700.

a6000 wasn't really ever a camera you'd get for videography as it never really offered external mic support. Having said that, we are comparing a $1900 AUD body with a 10yo camera that is worth about $350 on the used market. I bought one on marketplace just for the fun of it. It's still absolutely awesome for still photography, with its size making it perfect for travel snaps. And you do some OK video... it can competently film in 1080 at 25/50fps despite poor audio and no picture profiles. Mated to a Sony SEL35F18, the camera really is portable.

It's kinda shameful for sony that does not change almost nothing in sensor quality. As it shown in video, in terms of photography, it has no difference between the two. It's been almost 10 years! Canon R7 has 32megapixel sensor and 30fps.

I asked myself the same question, but I pre-ordered the a6700 for the new tech. I was shooting on the a6300 with Sigma APS-C lenses, and I think the a6700 is a better deal for the price. Think of a faster-charging port, better EVF, better autofocus AI-based, better grip than the A7C, and better color science. I have the Sigma 16 mm 1.4 and 30 mm 1.4, and I'm getting rid of the 30 mm 1.4 because from now on, I will start to buy full-frame glass on eBay as I did a few days ago I got a Sigma 24 mm 1.4 that is equivalent to a 35 mm, and in that way, I will be ready for an A7C II with all these new techs.

This is great fir hybrid and video shooters but lacking for photographers. Comprable to the r7 bur not better unfortunately. I am an A6000 owner since 2014, and I've been taking a lot of photos of my new daughter. I am still impressed with the quality of the photos the A6000 is taking using a Sony 18-105 F4 lens that I basically keep on it all the time, as it is just a great all-around camera and video lens, with built in steady-shot. I just received a new A6700 today, but I've kept it in the box unopened because I'm just not yet convinced that it will be enough of a leap over my A6000 for my purposes. Yes, I know the auto-focus is awesome, and it has 4K video, but honestly, after looking at the pics you showed side by side from the A6000 and A6700, I don't think I'm going to keep the A6700. I'm happy enough with the 1080p 30FPS/60FPS video on the A6000, and now, thanks to your video, I don't even think for still photos that there will be enough of an improvement to justify the $1900 Canadian cost. I think I'll send it back for a full refund, and just wait until there is another APS-C 6000 series camera from Sony that does eliminate the shortcomings of the A6700, or, until I just can't stand it anymore and I go full frame, and maybe pick up an A7C II used for less than $2,000 Canadian. But the cost of full frame lenses scares the crap out of me. :)

Send it back and maybe get a prime or 2 that will work on full frame so you are future ready if you switch. Samyang makes some f2.8 full frame lenses that are super tiny and compliment the a6000 well
