Great review! I am really considering to buy the a6400 now.

The easy workaround to the file system is using Sony's PlayMemories Home software in your computer. It will detect the memory card and launch the application to import media. When you import, it will sort it into folders on your computer by date: photos and video into dated folders. Works for me.

Did I miss it? Did you say what 'creative style' you were using here and at what saturation level? Which one or ones do you prefer?

I was owner of a6000 and loved it, especially for price. Now updated to a7iii. There is a lot to like about the a6400 but not enough to return to apsc. Lack of IBIS is main reason. The best lenses for apsc are the sigma 1.4 trio and they are not stabilised lenses. My most used lens on a6000 was the Zeiss 16-70 f4 which was stabilised. It was overpriced though. On the a7iii my walk around zoom is the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 which is priced similar to my old Zeiss but way better built. Tamron are also releasing a 17-28mm f2.8 with same filter thread as the 28-75mm. I've nothing against apsc and I rate the Sony bodies, I just don't think the lens options are as good as full frame. It seems third party manufacturers also have decided to concentrate on full frame lenses too.

@Gary box.... your post is realy confusing... i remember reading a post of yours some time ago and you mentioned that you had a6000 & a6300. You mentioned that you love your cameras and cannot see any reason why you should or would upgrade to full frame, and you love your gear that you have already.... now you make excuses about sony crop line and go back on your op....seams like you just follow the hype train....if it is really you that wrote the post i read some time ago....but if this is a mistaken identity please cary on shooting & posting your lifes story for everybody to read....all the best.

@@shahdawon7191 I'm not sure if it's mistaken identity as I've never owned a6300. To clarify I think the a6000 was an amazing camera and can be bought at incredible price. I may have made such a comment and at the time the price difference between the apsc and full frame was huge. Also upgrading to full frame at that time meant settling for inferior autofocus and frames per second. A number of things have changed. When the a7iii was released the price and performance got my attention. Sony have ignored apsc lens development. Sure you can use full frame lenses but then they feel better mounted to a full frame body. I can certainly see a reason to buy something like a6400 with sigma 1.4 primes if you are looking for low weight and specialise in certain type of photography. If you want to try all forms of photography I think the lens choice favours full frame. I only went full frame once the autofocus matched or beat my a6000 and price was not prohibitive. When I owned my a6000 my walk around lens was the 16-70 f4. For similar money I now use Tamron 28-75 f2.8 which is optically much better and better built. I've nothing against apsc but it seems clear the focus for Sony is full frame. I've owned a7iii since about October. Soon I hope to buy the Tamron 17-28 f2.8 and if I could afford it I'd consider the Sony 200-600mm. It won't be long before Tamron and sigma have large telephoto options too. Since owning the a7iii I've not seen anything lens wise for the apsc. The fact that the 16-70 f4 is still considered the best general lens for apsc seems wrong. If Sony took apsc seriously we might see better options at better prices from the likes of Tamron and Sigma.

Most of the improvements are possible because of the new processor they're using which likely also explains the better battery life. I use my a6300 mostly for video. The a6400 would be a nice upgrade only downside is the lack of image stabilization though I've also heard as you state that it's not all that great for video. Fully agree on the Sony menu structure. Makes no sense at all :-) Keep it simple Sony: we only need 2 folders, one for pictures and one for video. Lastly touch menu would be welcome as well. Both should be possible via a SW update. This seems like a general remark for all brands - no or very limited SW updates along the road. Very complete video, you also touched on a couple of topics that other channels haven't touched upon.

Hey. Im new here :P But this video raised one question. Aspect ratio 1x1 will it be raw file straight 1x1? Keep it up ;)

nice review. Voltage by itself does not say anything about power consumption though.

Thanks, excellent review. Make your channel rise to new levels by using the lav mic for ALL audio. The ups and substantial downs of the audio quality on your videos is killing your subscriber count. The quality of your performance and the info you share is always good, it's just the audio that lets you down. Just a friendly tip; put more effort into good sound.

Great unbiased video review, as we have come to expect. this put to rest, I really hope I'll not be reborn as one of your next cameras in my next life: it would be REALLY bad karma! You've really beaten the crap out of those poor A6000 and a6300 v__v

My guess is that the filenaming is keeping to an 8.3 format for compatibility with memory cards. It doesn't seem like much of an issue when the camera automatically creates subfolders which you can easily rename to part1 and part2 and nest those directories below a main directory on your PC. Having over 9999 raw photos in one folder sounds like a bit of a management nightmare when reviewing photos and I would image would stress out most image editing programs

Huge step up from a6000. I find that my a6000 and my 70200gm works better than a7ii and the 70200gm. I bet the a6400+70200 gm would be 2nd to a9+70200gm. I really am not a fan of the ff body size.

I was shocked to find out that you edit your images directly from your SD card. Why would you do that?

Mostly Only in the studio when it's a situation where can easily re-shoot. Load the raw - edit and save to the hard-drive.

He keeps on talking about volts as if volts is a measure pf power. Power is defined as volts x amps, not volts. Thus, a device consuming 2 amps at 1/2 volt an d a device consuming 1 amp at 1 volt is consuming exactly the same power. If he is ignorant about this, what else is he ignorant about.
