Touch Operation (Setup3/7) also needs to be ON. Took me a while to figure this out. I had originally turned this off because my nose kept focusing on things.

I have my mode wheel always set to "M". Other than being able to use the shutter button to begin recording, is there any difference? Thanks!! And great channel. On the a7R IV you need to enable it under Camera Settings 2 > Customer Operation 2 (10/11) > Func. of Touch Operation > Touch Tracking. Make sure you have the Touch Operation enabled as well which is under Setup 2 (2/7) > Touch Operation > On.

Hi Bob. You can configure the custom buttons differently depending on whether you are shooting stills or video, but you'll need to switch into video mode on the top dial if you want to make use of the custom buttons that you have set for video.

When I have back button focus set up and try to use touch focus I see the box come up but I have to press the back button to obtain focus - is that correct?

Can you enable touch tracking when viewing through the EVF for stills?

No I'm afraid touch tracking will not work when you are using the EVF. Personally I prefer to set the focus area to tracking center if I'm using the EVF. But then you will need to half-press the shutter button to keep the tracking on your subject.

If you are using touch tracing it automatically holds the focus on the subject that you select, so no need for the focus hold button. - Tim

Hi! I shoot a video podcast and use touch tracking in video mode to keep focus on my face, however, I’ve noticed that objects the foreground constantly pulsate. Any fix to this?

It's probably the focus breathing that you are seeing, it varies from lens to lens. You can work around it by moving any objects from the edge of the frame then it's less noticeable. I'll often shoot my videos on manual focus to avoid this.

I heard that the 6400 camera does not work correctly with external monitors. (excluding external recorders) No 4K image, no atofocus. no face and eye recognition. What can you say about this?

If you are shooting video in 4k and have connected a display using HDMI then no unfortunately you will only see a black screen. This does not stop the the autofocus from working or face detection, there is no eye-af in movies on the a6400.
