You would probably still need a gimbal. I like Sony cameras but IBIS has never been their strong suit.

Im a sony user. I use an a7iii and honestly they should just cancel the release of this camera. Its so underwhelming for a flagship camera. Better get of an a6100 or a6400 for the price they are charging

The A7iii is the oldest full frame mirrorless camera that came out this year/late last year, yet the image quality (6k to 4k), flexibility with log, cheaper than other competitors, and the best autofocus blow other brands out of the park. Im not saying it is the perfect camera but for the price and the features that it offers it is really good. If you're comparing it to the RXVII, i still prefer the image quality of the a7iii. The full frame look is beautiful. However if vlogging is concerned, I will go with the RX100 VII.

Agreed. Sony finally made my decision to upgrade from the a6300 easy. It's the a6400 for me. Hands-down.

@@TheEverydayDad I really wish I wasn't so vested in Canon for FF, but I've aquired a few lenses for the a6300 just for video. I love my R, but at the end of the day, Sony, now that they've nearly perfected their color science and made it on par with my beloved Canon, it seems almost a no-brain decision that overall; the a6400 is the best value out there anywhere when it comes to videography for the 80% of us. Especially when I am already vested in a Ronin S as well.

Seriously though, when you get used to the a7iii battery, it's such a nice feeling, and peace of mind when shooting a wedding for instance (where I have to bring large external batteries for my a6500 because you cant just replace a battery during a ceremony) still a great camera of course 😊

Other than the bigger battery, I don't think this camera is worth it... from the looks of it you get the best "vlogging" camera to date, but scarce on the enthusiast features(no 10-bit, 4k/60p, second sd card slot). No question strong on the tech(especially if Animal Eye AF floats your boat), but some of that tech is either dated or doesn't work all that well(same sensor, micro-USB 2.0, weak IBIS, heavy rolling shutter, mech shutter tops out at 1/8000s) ... do they offer an electronic shutter on this $1400 cam??? I was hoping for that mini-A9 so many said was coming out... this is definitely not it.

Even though I just got my A6400 a few months ago I'm happy with it, sure I'd like a bigger battery and maybe ibis but I have multiple batteries and can always get the Meiki Battery Grip, just seems for the price of the new a6600 it's approaching sony a7iii full frame territory. From the reviews the Image Quality and Video Recording seems to be identical with the a6400 correct me if i'm wrong it's just what I'm getting from these reviews. I'm keeping my a6400, everyday dad is what got me to buy it. Thanks dude.

The vlogging clips looked rough. I wonder if the A6600 can do sensor + IS lens stabilization to improve on that with something like the 10-18mm. It's a tempting camera and I might eventually consider a pair of them if/when the price drops. The Canon M50s I am using are solid overall, but lack of custom modes and small batteries do get irritating. It's kind of odd Sony hasn't been able to enhance IBIS in APS-C cameras because there should be more room to move around. Nice video as usual. :)

I was lucky I bought a6400 after much research and workings. It is affordable and give most of the feature one needs to do daily vlogging or semi professional filming! This new product is merely a waste of money. If you have a high budget go for a73 instead.

Bigger battery is great but It makes the camera weigh more . I think it’s at 503 grams .. this means even with the Sony 10-18 it’s too heavy for my Zhiyun M2 .. I’m sticking with the a6400

Sony should at least price this camera around $1,200. $1400 plus warranty and taxes puts this camera in full frame territory. A 6100 is good enough for photographers. They missed the mark with the 6600. It should’ve been more oriented for video. But instead they gave us the same old sensor with that crappy ibis and horrible rolling shutter and expect us to pay more? It’s a joke. They are holding on to the 4k60 for the A7siii. If I want 4k60, a used gh5 or a black magic pocket will give me that for way less. I love Sony, but being a fan boy and loyalty doesn’t help me be a better creator. Getting the right tools for the job on the other hand, it does.

I was so excited as well. But frankly I will just stick with my A6400. Same reasons as you. The Battery is not a big deal for me, and the Sony stabilization is meh.. all we need is A Panasonic with good autofocus, and all is right with the world.

It’s got everything except... The autofocus is perfect, it just has one problem... I would be buying this along with that telephoto lens if... it would be great with my existing Sigma 16mm f1.4, and my other APSC lenses except... THERE HAS BEEN NO INCREASE IN VIDEO RESOLUTION QUALITY FOR FOUR YEARS! 30p is not enough, and it would be nice to have a bump on 4K aswell 😭

To me the a6600 is an a6400 with IBIS and the Z battery. I don't see how Sony can expect me to pay $500 for those two features. I would really like the better battery but for $500 I can live without it.

I have a drumming channel so the most attractive things to me are the battery life and the NO RECORD TIME LIMIT! To me that makes this camera unique in the entire mirrorless market.

Wow, Sony's electronic stabilization is leagues ahead of its IBIS! I'm honestly disappointed in the IBIS for the a6600. The improved battery is nice, but it's not twice the price of an a6100 nice. Dunno if you got to try out the a6100 along with the a6600, but I'm really interested in that one! It's what I see as a successor to the a5100, which despite its flaws is my favorite camera I've had.

Thanks for your A6600 review. I don´t need/use 4k video. How good is in FHD 1080p, it has been improved over the poor sharpness quality in the A6500? Everybody is speaking ill of IBIS, but what´s about the horrendous "rolling-shutter" effect in all A6xxx cameras...

What are your thoughts on the a6400 vs the rx 100 vii for vlogging? Which is your go to? We have both but are trying to figure out their places. The 6400 for photos for example is amazing. We are having a hard time determining what to use for video.

I’ll end up using the a6400 for studio video and the rx100vii for everything out and about. I LOVE the rx100vii. It’s easily my favorite camera of the year so far 👍

Thanks for the honest conclusion to the video, I really think that the higher price for the a6600 is not justified. The a6400 is a similarly capable camera in almost all respects to the a6600. The IBIS in the a6600 is not great as seen in the video. The only thing worst than this IBIS is not having any, (it sucks). The bigger battery is good but I can connect a small usb battery bank that can double the capacity of the a6600 NPFZ100 Z-series battery for the a6400. The headphone jack is good but again there are some simple work around, use a external monitor, audio recorder etc. The thing is that these maybe gear you already have, so you don't have to spend any money. In the the end the only benfits i see is the ease of use of the a6600 over the a6400. Why spend that much more for something that you can fix with a bit more gear you may already have, beats me? The money saved from buying the a6400 can go towards buying a new lens or other gear. I will save and buy the a6400, as stated by the Every Day Dad, the a6400 gives you more value for your dollar, period!

If you want good stabilised video footage the Insta360 One X has the most mind blowing stabilised technology. IBIS is only good for long range photography, as for video it’s completely useless

Another fantastic camera from Sony! Given the price tag though I would still say that a6400 is more worth it. Heck, the price really isn’t that far from the 6100. For casual stills shooting the W batteries work “fine”. But for video shooters like you the Z battery is definitely huge and I can see many people going for that. The glass... gosh I want that 16-55 so much, but the price... I get that it being an apsc lens doesn’t make the technology any less than a ff lens, but still it costs more than a a6400+18135 bundle 😱

I just feel like the limitations on the a6400 were deliberate, to put the a6600 in a higher segment and thus justify the heftier price tag. I think Sony played all of us. Of course, these cameras were conceptualized and designed way before 2019 and what we're seeing now is clever marketing tactic. But that's just my opinion lol what do I know. I'm sticking to my a6500, I don't have the money to buy a new camera

We just have to admit, my smartphone offers better stablisation and wider field of view in a more compact package plus better battery life! Modern cameras nowadays should not be purchased just for vlogging purposes.

I shoot photos, not video so the rolling shutter, lack of 10 bit, etc. Are not on my radar. I'm quite okay with the 24mp sensor. I have no issues with image quality. I am also okay with no IBIS which surprised me. I agonized over buying the a6400 due to the lack of IBIS but it just hasn't proven to be a problem, even with non OIS lenses. I am bothered by the battery issue. So for me the a6600 looks like an a6400 with a battery upgrade and a small benefit of IBIS for a $500 increment in cost. Then there is the loss of the flash which I do, on occasion, use. For $1,400 I can't consider buying the a6600. At $1,200 I would at least consider it but not likely buy one.

The AX100 to this day is still a great video camera thou I was hoping by now Sony IBIS would have improved thou sadly it seems its Sony's Achilles Heel. Great video and I Agree with you a6600 comments. My a6400 + 10-18 and Crane M2 gives me such stable video footage. The a6400 + a gimbal is at least $300 cheaper than the a6600. Sony IBIS is just not that effective in video especially while walking. I posted a video on a tall ship with the a6400 and gimbal is t is soo smooth while the boat was really rocking.

I'm mainly a photographer and unfortunately it's nothing exciting for me. I was hoping for a new sensor and better low light and dynamic range. I'll just stick with my 6300 for now. The 16-55 lens looks nice but way over priced.

I can tell you right now the GH5 will crush it for stabilization. And for recording while we were at dinner one night Jason Vong got the a6600 to record for over 2 hours without the overheating icon turning on.

Dad, I have watched several of these hands on videos of the 6600, and I have to say a few of you have pointed out the one thing that it's better at than Fuji, but you fail to bring up the benefits of Fuji over Sony. Why is that? Honestly, I think the XT3 for the price is a much better camera. Yes, the lack of IBIS is a downer, but the OIS in lenses is not bad. I suppose it depends on what you're filming and how you are going about it....but how about giving some love to Fuji? Do you have a review of the XT3?

It’s a great camera, but I expected more . Still max 4k30fps. Still only 8Bit . That is simply not enough. It’s a shame because the rest of the camera is great! Not enough to switch . Just my 2 cents of course.

There’s definitely subtle, quality of life improvements that people aren’t giving enough credit for. Like the battery and small things like head phone jacks that can be a real life saver on a job. In the grand scheme of things it’s actually fairly reasonable for the specs. We just a bit spoilt at this point 😉

That battery is amazing, absolutely class leading feature if you don’t want to drag a pocketful of those little things around with you. I do wish it was a little less steep in price but I do think it’s a good camera overall 👍

Definitely, no recording limit and no overheating. The new autofocus is top notch. The flip screen is a nice bonus. Depends on your needs you may better be off with a a6400

Im sold on the a6400 for price You can get the Ronin-SC and the a6400 and still be a bit cheaper than the a6600 but another Great video there "Dad" Regards, Rick

everybody expected at least a new 4k60 10 bit sensor, an improved ibis system but they decided to remove the flash, reduce the photo buffer in jpg and raw, update the software and only add a larger battery. What's worse, the quality of movies in full HD is the same tragic as always, looks like 720p and can not be combined with clips in 4k. A person working as a sales strategist in sony should lose his job

Are you sure you got the right camera? I think the one they gave you they forgot to put the IBIS inside. That’s a rip off. Ask them to return your money!
