The Sony A6600 has totally won me over and today we're going to talk about why you should go out and buy one!
There are a whole list of reasons that we'll get into but the bottom line is if you are an online creator, there aren't very many cameras that can top this for getting the most value for your dollar.
Why is that?
Lets find out!

Eric Abbott how have you found the a6600 so far as far as image stabilisation. I’ve got the a6100 which I bought as my first camera, but want to upgrade. Was considering the Olympus e5iii but I live the a6xxx form factor.
@EricRidesDirt
@EricRidesDirt 5 жыл бұрын
@@blondeboy33 I have not found that the image stabilization is all the great. You can clearly tell when a shot is handheld, same as with my other camera. However, the image quality is fantastic and the feature set of the camera far surpasses anything else I have ever used. That and the new form factor with that bigger batter is perfect.

Eric Abbott thanks for the prompt response. I love the plus points of the 6600 over the 6100, but not I’m happy with the video which is what I used it for mostly. That’s why I was considering either upgrading to 6600 for picture profiles or switching to the Olympus em 5iii. I want something small, but n9t too small t9 mount a shotgun mic on Do you have any experience or thoughts on that Olympus cameras?

@@tuhinvlogs5215 so many good options.....The best and an expensive option is the 16-55mm 2.8 Sony G Lens....Its like a one hit wonder, but you pay for it. Other fantastic lenses are the Sigma Trinity 16mm 1.4 (must have for a prime), 30mm 1.4, 56mm 1.4. You could also use Sony Full Frame lenses if you plan to move up in the future. honestly........what these cameras need to be doing is making super legit DIGITAL stabilization in 1080p. If the sensor is shooting 6k. Then they should be able to stabilize the CRAP out of the footage that exports in 1080p and is just like....rock solid stable. This stuff should be done in camera!

I bought a Nikon D750 4 years ago along with some lenses for it. Did our newborn shots and a bunch of family shoots. However as the kids are getting older I'm taking less pictures with it and we're doing more videos, sports, activities, motorcycles....plus I'm trying to ramp up my current YT channel and another one. I just don't enjoy doing video on the D750. I'm considering selling everything and switching to this instead. Yes I'll miss my full frame but I think this will see 10+ times plus the use. Anyways, thanks for the series of videos you've really got me thinking about this one!

Dads Domain Your comment captures what frustrates me about this video. I love watching Everyday Dad videos, but his review of the a6600 is not based on the everyday dad things you want to do. While it seems great for vlogging, I thought the 6000 series cameras are supposed to have rolling shutter and overheating issues, which would be less than ideal for sports and fast action. I don’t have an a6600, so I don’t know. I wish these reviews would address things everyday dads would want to film.
@DadsDomain

Definite Fiction I forgot about comments about the rolling shutter. What I have been doing lately is taking my go pro hero 8 and filming basketball games in 4k and cropping as needed in software. Not that great and not it’s intended use. But I can hold it on a stick and not pay attention cause the stabilization addresses hand shake. Hoping to put something on a tri pod some day. The kids love watching themselves back after a game but I don’t want to live behind a camera either. I want to watch the game, not watch it through a view finder

Djwil Mer I’m sure you have. Not saying it’s impossible or anything. Just saying that the market for people using the built-in flash only occasionally but enough to miss it is tiny. If you use a flash all the time and it’s important, you buy a “real” flash. If you barely use a flash, then you get annoyed with using the built-in version when it causes your non-kit lens to cast shadows on your subjects … and then you grumble about it in KZbin comment sections.

I was going to buy the Canon 90D because I already had a very expensive EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM lens. But it turns out that the flex cable in the lens needs replacing because the cheap double sided tape they used when manufacturing them comes loose. I've been quoted $800 to fix it and I only used it for 4 years :( So now I'm basically going with another brand and am SERIOUSLY considering this camera due to the fact I'll be using it to start a new youTube channel. I also do a lot of fashion shoots so hopefully the still side of things is good also :) Thanks for all the reviews!

You can definitely tell the difference between face and eye autofocus in video if you shoot at f1.4 and at 45 degree angle to the face rather than straight on. Face autofocus will often focus on the nose/forehead and as the DOF is so shallow the eyes will be out of focus.

I agree with your take on this camera. Sony provides a compelling case for their cameras. As a guy looking to move up from an action cam/smartphone to a real camera. I've spent countless hours watching reviews to try and figure out what my next step is. Sony has been near the top of my list. The thing that keeps me away from the Sony's is the resolution issue. I have no idea what resolution I would shoot in. If you shoot in 4K, it has terrible rolling shutter. It would have to live on a tripod. Any kind of vacation or vlogging wouldn't work. If you shoot 1080 then, most reviews say, that Sony's 1080 is really soft.

When I bought the A7iii, the battery life alone was such a selling point and peace of mind that it felt worth it after one professional job. I can imagine this is similar. Also, unlimited recording is finally becoming a thing. I run a podcast that makes my a7iii useless because I would have to stop every 30 mins which is stupid. So pleased they are finally releasing without a limit!

Love your content, but can’t follow your reasoning in this case (while still I enjoyed the video itself for sure). Eye AF for video = not really needed given the already good face recognition; IBIS = does something, but it doesn't do it well; so what’s left compared to the 6400 is the battery … hmhmhm, is the battery really worth the price difference?!? 🤔 Given that this APS-C “flagship“ comes with a five year old sensor suffering from rolling shutter, an old EVF, an outdated UI even not making use of the touchscreen, a single and slow SD card slot, crappy micro HDMI, micro USB (no type C - in 2019/2020 - really!?!), 8 bit / 100MBit only, max 30fps@4k, yada, yada, yada … it would be a beast of a camera and worth its price - if we had 2018 and not 2020 😜 Honestly: some of the compromises on this model are completely needless - and for me the a6600 is in a price range where I don’t want to pay for too many compromises, in particular if there are no technical reasons, but they are made only due to margin optimization and product tactics (so to not cannibalize the fullframe market) 😡 Conclusion (for me personally): I will continue to save for the next few years until I can afford the 6400 😕
@sinswithin
@sinswithin 5 жыл бұрын
The funny thing is even the a6100 beats out the 6400 for price to performance, the only thing the 6400 really has over the 6100 is color profiles and a couple other small options. It has the same sensor, same touch screen, same AF etc. etc. etc. Unless you plan to color-grade and take on a lot of extra work the a6100 as a shooter and video almost makes the 6400 moot for 80% of the population as well. Edit: I did forget the a6400 and 6600 is better at dust/dirt and weather-proofing. So if that's an issue as well pay the extra for that.
@nmbr73
@nmbr73 5 жыл бұрын
@@sinswithin Good point. But for my country prices at amazon start at 750€ for the 6100 (body only) and are about +100€ to get the 6400 instead … I’m okay with the 100€ extra for color profiles, weather sealing, unlimited recording, etc. - but no matter if it’s the 6100 or the 6400: I’m still a bit reluctant to pay 700€ and more for a camera with interfaces that were outdated in 2018 already … and to come back to the original advise to pick the 6600: it’s some crazy +540€ here to go from 6400 to 6600; that’s ridiculous. So yes: the 6100 could be a good pick in many cases - to bridge the time until we get an a7000 with 2019 technology.

@@artemisfowl9002 It's all a question of priorities. First thing I got annoyed by the most was the bad audio of my current DSLR ... that became my downfall: it's unbelievable what you can spend for microphones 😜... honestly: if I'd be that broke, I'd just not buy an a6400 - but I'm not that rich that I have to give money away, and so I'm okay to wait and watch the price trends ... anyway, I'm so poor that I can't afford a new camera each and every year, so if I invest more than a grand, I want to be sure to be happy with it for more than only some months

Need some suggestion How is the samyang 18mm f2.8 on sony a7iii as compared to sony10-18mm f4 on a6400? I am planning to go on sony system. And i am confused between sony a7iii or a6400 because of that ultrawide lens. I have two sets in mind but I can’t choose which one to go 1. Sony a7iii+ tamron 28-75 f2.8+ samyang 18 f2.8 2. Sony a6400+ sigma trio + sony 10-18 f4 I mostly shoot in the range of 24-70 but sometimes I need that ultrawide lens(near 16 mm) for covering the whole landscape and some creative photos with unique perspective that ultrawide gives. I am not much into video or vlogging. Photo is my priority. F2.8 on full frame will give me sufficient amount of blur and low light capability. It would be much better to just zoom in and out on tamron than changing lens each time with the sigma trio. And it will be easier to carry one lens than carrying three lens while travelling. But If I go with a7iii and tamron 28-70 I couldn’t afford more than the samyang 18mm lens. If the samyang lens is as good as sony 10-18 I would easily go with a7iii but I don’t know if the photo quality of samyang is as good as the sony 10-18. since it is a cheap lens I have some doubt. Can you tell me about those lens which one should I go for?

I have an a6400 and an a6500. After bad mouthing the a6600 I too bought one. Why? Not because it has better image quality (because it doesn't). Not for the audio out jack (because I'm not a video shooter). It's simply this. The a6500 has one advantage over the a6400 and that is IBIS. The a6400 has the best focus system including EyeAF and Tracking; but it lacks the IBIS. the a6600 has both the IBIS of the a6500 and the focus system of the a6400. With it I have the best of both worlds. I always take two cameras on a family portrait shoot. I have 8 lenses, 1/2 are stabilized, 1/2 are not stabilized. I have to keep making decisions about which lens I will use on which camera and for what reason. With the a6600 I will simply use it for my primary camera and the a6400 will be my backup. It helps that I caught the tail end of the $200 price reduction sale that Sony had. It also helps that the stimulus check will cover the cost. I'll be pumping money back into the economy. So for me it is simplicity and it better fits my needs. The larger battery is cool but as I don't shoot video I really wasn't having to change batteries very often. The larger grip will be appreciated. I'll miss the flash (I think it was a mistake for Sony to leave the flash off the a6600). Many people think IBIS is for video but I count on it for hand held stills. It helps prevent camera shake, especially on my longer lenses. I will be selling the A6500.

Nice video and you make a solid case, but I’m going to stick with Fuji. Heavily invested already plus they are also a great mirrorless camera setup. And now that the just announced xt4 will have the xh1 ibis shrunk down into the xt series size body and it has a vlog flippy screen definitely buying one ASAP. The Fuji glass, the firmware, and the film simulations and color science are just too good.

I picked up an a6600. It's a great camera. Z-Battery, unlimited recording, no overheating, front facing screen, are just great. BUT! The rolling shutter almost makes this thing unuseable hand held. It's a bummer! I wish they updated the CPU readout speed by justtttt a hair to get it to an acceptable level. It's not even Panning that bothers me it's the vertical line skipping g that occurs hand held. Painful and nauseating to watch! On a tripod with the Sigma 16mm f1.4 though? Hard to beat even at the full frame level.

Quick question, can you use custom color profiles in video? Also, on the entire line of these cameras, the microphone port needs to be select-able from mic to line level in the menu settings. My Fuji X-S10 is and I use "line level" and send audio from an external Zoom recorder and microphone using that microphone pre-amp and compression instead of the camera's pre-amp and my audio sounds amazing.
