With the release of the new Sony A6600 we took a close look and what is new and how the flagship APS-C camera compares to the wildly popular A7 III? To find out more about the camera go to: bit.ly/a-6600
The Sony A6600 is Sony’s most advanced APS-C camera to date, with the same great features as their high-end full frame cameras but with a more compact, range finder-style body.
It has an excellent 24.2-megapixel image sensor, records 4K 30p video footage and is jam packed with features like a flip up screen, video Eye-AF, headphone and mic port, as well as a bigger FZ-100 battery that makes it the perfect camera for cinematographers, vloggers and youtubers.

Sony has come a long way no question about it. I just got a used a7ii. These are incredible values online today. I cannot afford a new camera and have been buying used with no regrets. I don't think I really care of latest and greatest unless going newer enhances my workflow and pleasure in the job. I am not a professional and make no pretenses I ever would be. Many of these KZbin channels tend to lean toward the professional, but more need to be the rest of us. Many of us do not have thousands of dollars to get into a camera system. Maybe in another 6 years I can afford a used a7iii. I am not going to lose sleep over the tech. I am trying to make my technique better instead as that is free for the most part. Great new equipment will never replacement for great technique and practices. It is easy to fall into the shiny new gleaming superstar for the moment, but not for long, a new superstar is here. So things that never age. Great lenses, and great technique, lighting and your workflow process. Keeping it real folks.

Hey ,great Vid! I'm in the process of buying a Sony A7SIII and am wondering if I should get a 6600 (16-55/2,8) or an A7III(16-55/2,8) as a side cam. I use it mainly for 4K video and also often shoot events in the evening or people directly in front of the camera where I also want to have the surroundings on it. I need a Side-Cam for simultaniously captures. I also do not want any difficulties to put both recordings together. What would you (guys) recommend to me?

I was choosing between these two. Doesn’t seem like Canon is investing in the EF-M lens nearly as much as Sony is in the E lens. And Sony has better lens today! If is wasn’t for that I would have gone for the m6. Instead I just ordered my a6600. Just which it had a built in flash.

And so I wonder if I can plug a USB stick into the 6600 and get the 6600 to write to it like it was a secondary card :p Lastly, the the next 6800 model or whatever they'll call it might just have 2 card slots?

I'm a Nikon guy using a used a6xxx with just a pancake lens attached beginning with a6000. It's been my go-getter camera I use for scouting - test and preview of my construction business. I have always liked the sturdy, sleek and minimalist design of Sony a6xxx cameras that can fit in any bag. I always upgrade if there's a used unit at ebay or amazons with a good price. The game changer for me to give away my a6300 along with its battery grip and batteries (retaining the pancake lens) is Sony a6600's FZ100 battery. I'm not into the imaging features of Sony a6xxx cameras considering I have my Nikons.

If you were just starting and need a vlogging/you tuber/content creator/instagram well rounded lense and could only afford 1 lense to start out what would you suggest? I heard Sigma has good lenses (not sure on size recommendations) but I was just going to get the A6600 with the lense it is marketed with. Thank you for the help!

@TalkingPicturesbyDCW
@TalkingPicturesbyDCW 4 жыл бұрын
I think if you wanted to shoot more vlogs then the continous eye autofocus is a distinct advantage. On the other hand the A7iii does still have continous video autofocus it just doesn't have eye-tracking in video. If you plan to shoot more still images and having a smaller size camera isn't super important than maybe the A7iii is the right choice. I always recommend trying the cameras out in store if you can. Hope that helps.

Hey Szymon, thanks for the comment. If you're looking for something for vlogging that takes decent photos I would consider the A6600 over the A7iii just based on the video eye tracking autofocus and the flip screen. Might be worth having a look at the Canon EOS-RP too, it has eye tracking and an articulating screen.

Hey Mario thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video. Resolution-wise the sensors are quite similar but the A7iii should able to create a more shallow depth-of-field because it's bigger. I'd recommend taking an sd card in-store when the A6600 is in-stock so you can set both cameras up with similar settings, take some test shots and see for yourself. Hope that helps, sorry we couldn't be more definitive.

I'm upgrading from the a5100. I was thinking A7III, a6400, a6600... but now I'm not so sure. lol. After this video I can cross the A7III off my list... but I still don't know if the upgrades from the a6400 to the a6600 make it worth the price.

I have a question: if you’re making a short film, which camera would you choose? Great content. Learned a lot from you.
@TalkingPicturesbyDCW

Hey Travel Addict, thanks for the question. Both cameras would be good short film cameras but the A7iii does have a slight edge if you'll be shooting in natural light because of the larger full frame sensor, if you want that shallow depth of field look I would also recommend the A7iii. But if you're taking the time to light your scene either camera should do a great job. Another thing to consider is whether you're shooting on a large set with a crew or more of a one person run-and-gun production because then weight and size also become a consideration. I hope this helped to answer your question and I'm glad you learnt a lot from the video.

I have an old NEX-6 and 4 lenses ranging from basic kit to Zeiss. I’ve had occasional “lens not identified” errors with 2 lenses so I think it’s about time to upgrade the body. I’d consider myself a mid-level travel/family photographer for fun (not pay). I’m on the fence considering the A6600 and maybe adding the 16-55 f2.8 G or just ditching the apsc altogether and going full a7iii or upcoming replacement, and a couple lenses. I appreciate the small apsc size for travel (hiking the NaPali coast with the smaller camera was nice) however I’m a big dude and can handle a little more weight if necessary.

they all work but using regular emount on a FE a7 will result in the barrel showing on the edges of the frame like heavy vignetting

What about timelapse mode... Is it now available without any extra app hassles?
@TalkingPicturesbyDCW
@TalkingPicturesbyDCW 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quesion Hussein k, since the release of the A9 the Sony camera's no longer support the timelapse apps, which is a bit frustrating for anyone who purchased them already. Luckily with the A6600 there is two ways you can create timelapses. The first uses the S&Q mode in the Quick setting to create a time-lapse video in camera, the longest interval between shots is 1 second. The second is using an Interval Recording mode that can capture still images with the longest interval being 60 seconds between shots, maximum number of shots is 9999 and you'll need to create the timelapse sequence on your computer rather than in-camera. Hope that helped to answer your question and sorry for the long reply.

Is there an af tracking mode (face or/and eye) in 1080p at 120 fps available on a6400 and a6600? I have heard on one youtube channel that it is not on a6400. Is it true?

Hey Pawel Zukiewicz, thanks for your comment. We only had the a6600 for a couple of days but from what I can remember Eye-AF and real-time-tracking did work when shooting 4K but not when shooting at 120fps. Can't be 100% of that though because we don't have the camera any more but we've reached out to Sony for confirmation.
