I use both cameras... I enjoy both of them but, I will most often use the A7iii in more static situations such as studio and portrait work and I use the A6600 (because of its small form factor) for travel and in situations in which I need greater mobility.. My favorite three lenses for the full frame Sony are: 28-75mm f/2.8 Tamron, 85mm f/1.8 Sony and the 70-200mm f/4 Sony. I chose the f/4 over the f/2.8 version because of the lighter weight and lower price. My favorite lenses for the A6600 are: Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 (because of its form factor) and the Sony 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3. I also use the 85mm Sony on my A6600 and love this lens for both cameras.

Hey im a bit confused here these two cameras have the same mount, no? So you could use the same lenses.
@niswanthskumar16084 ай бұрын
Yes you can. But if you use a full frame lense with an apsc camera you have to consider the crop factor. Simply multiply the focal length and fpoint with 1.6, so a FE 50MM f1. 8 lense acts as a 80mm f2.8 lense in your apsc camera.

Kill the tech gap by skill...damn that was an awesome point!! 🔥👍 Awesome comparison. Regarding the autofocus I think it is because the A7III was released in 2018 and had eye AF only for still, not video. In video it has only face detection. The renewed A6xxx line (6100, 6400, 6600) was released in 2019 and got the updated AF technology including eye AF in video. I think back then there was a general complaint among Sony folks that the AF tech was always better in the APS-C line compared with full frame. That discussion is history since Sony released the A1, A7Siii and A7IV 😀 It's also amazing that Sony puts in the latest AF tech into their smaller cameras. For example if you do a AF comparison between the A7III and the ZV1 - the ZV1 would also beat the A7III like the A6600 😇😇😇

Bokeh is very complicated. It's actually not dependent on sensor size, its dependent on the lens.. if you use the 28-75mm to test bokeh on both cameras, it will show very similar results since you're using the same lens with the same opening. but if you test a 35mm 1.8 on a full frame camera, and a 24mm 1.8 (the focal length equivalent you'd buy as a apsc user), then you'll see not a difference in focal length (because the 24mm is a 35mm full frame equivalent cropped 1.5x), but a difference in the bokeh, even if they're both 1.8. this is because to get a 35mm view on APSC, you have to buy a wider lens, and even if the focal length is cropped to a 35mm equivalent, a 24mm is a wider lens which makes the bokeh smaller, even if the focal length looks the same as a 35mm on a full frame camera. so then comparing a 24mm 2.8 on an apsc, to a 24mm 1.8 on a full frame, and cropping that full frame to 1.5x, then again you will see similar bokeh, because the focal length and aperture are similar. get me? so yes, apsc bokeh is much smaller when comparing lenses designed for apsc because the focal length equivalents are 1.5 wider (roughly) to compensate for the crop, meaning a wider lens makes for less bokeh.

I had a fujifilm xt4 and upgraded to the Sony A7 IV. While I really liked fuji colours, the lowlight performance sucked. The A7 iv is amazing with high iso. If you have the money, definitely go for full frame.

For what you need high iso performance? No serious photographer would shoot above 400 is and a apsc camera is breaking down at arround 6400, so apsc is more than capable enough.

afaik, a6600 (and a6400, and a6100 maybe too?) has a newer processor that allows for that live trackin af in video. a7iii has an older processor, incapable of that, and didnt (and will not) get an af update because its not capable of it. afaik, its the processor inside.

All good points, but personally I would still get the full frame lenses for A6600. APS-C body with full frame lens is actually the perfect combo, unlike a full frame camera using the entire lens, the APS-C because of the smaller sensor uses only the center part of the lens (the best part of the lens) while cropping out the soft corners.

Is there any difference in image quality between FE and E equivalent lenses? Read about FE not bundling the same amount of light on APSC as E lenses and thus having worse image quality..

I pretty much made up my mind on what to get. For my goal, smaller is definitely better. I specifically was looking at the weight and size of both cameras beforehand. Then I watched your video and it confirmed my decision. It’s also nice to know that there’s almost no difference on the quality of the images and videos. I will be mainly using this for travels so I’m looking for something light and compact. Thank you for making great comparison. Nice intro by the way haha 😋

Do you think that it is better to buy Sony A7III for around 1400 USD and grab some FF lenses or buy newer Sony A6700 for around 2000 USD and use canon APS-C lenses with adapter?

APS-C is good for beginners. It was and still is my first mirrorless camera (a6400), for 2 years I learned much about cameras settings, manual lenses, vintage lenses and I think after more 2 years I will switch to full frame camera, maybe it will be Sony A7V. Full frame, because video looks closer more better for me, like you can see on TV, video have more professional, detailed look. About photos....you can shoot great photos even in vintage film cameras, but video is different, here you need better gear.

@oliversteiner08152 жыл бұрын
I think the lack of fine details of the A6600 in situations, compared to the A7 III is more due to the fact that the crappy kit lens you used for testing is unable to serve the tightly pixel-packed APS-C sensor. Also, when you use faster glas the noise performance improves drastically, of course. Also, APS-C lenses tend to be lighter and more affordable so I'd rather compare F1.4 APS-C to F2 on FF or so..
@KenseiAkatsu2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for info!!!
@Greenepyon2 жыл бұрын
Good point. I compared the a6600 and a7iii (I own both), and noted that the Sigma Trio lenses have a very good light transmission... better than any of my FF glass, so at the same F stop, the apsc utilizes a lower ISO value.
@oliversteiner08152 жыл бұрын
@@Greenepyon Interesting, thanks for sharing! Makes the difference even smaller. Maybe it'd be better going straight for the lighter F1.8 FF lenses.. 😁
@JinKazama922 жыл бұрын
The lack of fine details does not boil down to how good the lens is. You can't simply ignore the sensor limitations, especially ISO performance. Even if you use a 1.4 lens on apsc and compare it with FF 2.8, the number stops ahead of the 1.4 is not significant enough to make a difference for the apsc. Just look at this comparison to see how limiting the apsc sensor really is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5LKYoGQhNh8sKc
@oliversteiner08152 жыл бұрын
@@JinKazama92 Apart from the fact that what you claim is physically nonsense, it does not stand up to reality, because I have owned both cameras (A6600 & A7 III) and can say that the images are indistinguishable at ISO 100 under optimal conditions in each case. And of course, it's normally expected that a lens at f2.8 will perform better than one at F1.4. As for your linked video comparison, the Sony FE 1.8/20 mm lens can't handle the resolution of the smaller sensor as well as that of an FF sensor. And that's because 24 MP on APS-C is equivalent to a FF pixel density of 54 MP and that's why APS-C makes higher demands on the sensor than a 24 MP FF sensor. In addition, the optimal aperture of APS-C is lower than that of FF because, among other things, you have to take diffraction effects into account.
