Jim!!! Colorific - I love it. Working on some macro that I shot with this set up, then I have a comparison with the R7 and macro too. I have not even processed those photos LOL. This is the most impressive camera I have picked up since the R5... and the R7! It was just a fun body to shoot. I am really impressed! 🙏💖🤗

I really like this location mate! There seems to be so much action there all the time! That trail looked pretty flooded, no wonder it’s a flood basin😀. Those spider, butterfly & dragonfly shots were top notch as always! Re the exposure fluctuations, maybe the metering timer is affecting it? ( just an idea😉 ) Thanks for sharing your experience with the body & also that very last frame of that gorgeous butterfly is amazing, love the rich colours in that one. Cheers

Peter - thank you!!! That area is extremely diverse with wildlife - time of day, time of year, where you stand etc. There are so many photographers that go there from all over. There are many other places as well but as a creature of habit, I go there because I know I will get something to share. As far as the exposure fluctuation well, I am am lost in the Sony menu and set up - I know Canon.... and Nikon. This menu is even different that the Sony cameras I had in the past. I am 100% sure that if I had the time and played around, I could fix that, but I only had it for 4 days and was just happy to get out and take photos I can be proud of. I think that the 200-600 on the A6700 is on par with the R7 and 100-500 - both set ups for wildlife are stunning. This was really fun to play with. And again, thank you, thank you for letting me share!! 🙏💖🤗

Wonderful images. I cannot belive the detail you get on some of those dragon flies and butterflies better than I am getting with my A1+200-600. You still have to try the A1 it's the only significant camera you haven't tried, now you know Sony colours have improved, I'd love to hear your opinion on it.

I use multi metering mode, I think this is like Canon's evaluative mode. I don't see such big exposure swings. But this means I need to use exposure compensation more for back lit subjects.

@@daviddouglasuk Thank you for the information. I am sure that it is my lack of experience with the Sony that was causing that. I don't know enough or have it set up enough to quickly change modes like with my Canons. I was told that the A1 has some amazing color and was still reluctant. But his as a crop sensor - I really wanted to try it and I am really glad I did..... and sad now that I have returned it. I have this burning feeling in my credit card that is calling me to buy it. LOL. It really is an amazingly awesome little camera. When I do buy the A6700 and 200-600.... I will have to rent the A1 or the next flagship to have some fun with. If/when I get one, I will try the evaluation mode!! 🙏💖🤗 PS - I am just happy I got it set up enough to get some photos!

Thank you - it is an easy technique! Dragonflies have patterns so when you see where they are flying past, pre-focus at about that distance...... then wait. When the start to hover as they do, hit the focus button and hold the shutter button. I use back button focus and it seems to work well with all my cameras - even my old DSLR. I dont try to follow them when they mover on, just capture them as they are near me. There you go - easy secret revealed!!! It is exciting when you start looking at your shots later!! 🙏💖🤗

Thank you Chris! I forget how fortunate we are here sometimes. It was not too expensive, but more than I planned on since I got the body and three lenses - working on a macro one, then a comparison with the R7 for some macro. It is an impressive set up, but so is the R7 with the 100-500!!! 🙏💖🤗

Nice work. You got some nice images. I've done one dragonfly shot with my a6700 and the 200-600 lens. The 200-600 (0.2x) does an adequate job but not nearly as good as the RF 100-500 (0.33x) and budget RF 100-400 (0.41x). Both of those lenses have a much higher maximum magnification rate as I listed but you have certainly proven that 0.2x is enough to make some lovely dragonfly images. I agree, they should have the option to close the shutter when the camera is off. That is my most disliked thing about the a6700. I've had my a6700 for just under a month and I've already had to clean the sensor multiple times! They could probably fix that with firmware but I highly doubt that they will. The single card slot doesn't bother me at all. The second slot in my R7 remains empty 99% of the time. One bone to pick. 600mm is 600mm, not 900mm. You get a 900mm equivalent field of view when using 600mm on a 1.5x crop sensor but the focal length is still 600mm. Don't confuse field of view with focal length, please.
@JonnyPink65
@JonnyPink65 Жыл бұрын
Phil - first - wow, thank you for the comment - I watch your stuff all the time. You are correct - it is the equivalent due to the smaller sensor. I have always loved the Sony AF but the older Sonys ( I have had 4 over the years) just did not have the deep color in the raw files that Canon or Nikon do and so fot that reason, I stayed away. I really wanted to try this to compare to the R7...... and I am blown away. I have to say that the problems I had or things I missed are my inexperience with the Sony menus that are different that what they use to be. Back to equivalent, I think I diagramed that in one of my older videos talking about why it is the equivalent, why I like a larger sensor for a crop body (I did not care for the Nikon D500), and why when I shoot a full frame, I do not shoot in crop mode as I want the full option to crop in to the framing I want and missed. To you and Heather - thank you for watching and for the comment. I was watching when you were talking about your 200-600... and your macro.... and!! 🙏💖🤗

Just stumbled across your channel and i must say great stuff! Just picked up the a6700 with the Tamron 50-400...so 75-600 ff equivalent. Really liking the versatility and weight. I was wondering for birds in the branches what would you recommend for af? Do you prefer using wide or maybe flexible tracking spot? I ask cause as good as these auto focus systems are it still tends to lock onto branches sometime. No big deal but figured i would ask what you prefer in your experience. Thanks so much for any advice you might have. 🙏🏻

Thank you, thank you!!! I have always loved back button focus single point. When I bought the R5, I set it up with one back button for single point, and one for the eye AF. When every I rent a camera or buy a new one, I set them up the same way including this amazing Sony A6700 - I LOVE that little camera. I also use my manual focus ring a lot for subject that are sitting inside the bushes to help my lens/camera find focus. That is just my style and what works for me with years of muscle memory. When I bought the new Canon 200-800, I had problems because of the balance and where the focus ring was in relation to the lens balance. I use the focus on, to the side, etc and I talk about it in a lot of my videos. back button focus, one button for single point, on for eye AF and a finger on the focus ring. I shoot like that all the time. I really dont use any other focus settings. I hope this helps!! Always happy to help. My email is listed below if you have other questions. 🙏😁💖

I have the R7 and have held off on buying the RF 100-500 but have rented it several times (my wife laughs each time asking me why I have not bought it....} - it is AMAZING. The two set ups are on par with each other. In the past, I did not not a fan of Sony or the 200-600 lens, but this has really changed my mind. And it is funny because today I recorded a video and comparing the two for wildlife. It would be a tough call now where as just a few weeks ago, I would have picked my Canons all day long..... this was impressive. 🙏💖🤗

Did u have overheating & shutdown problems with the Sony a6700 when shooting video? If so, plz share settings and length of shots. Many other reviewers have complained about such problems, especially in hot environments. Two card slots and sensor protection, yes Sony should have taken care of those issues. This is a very expensive camera considering it is essentially crammed into a Sony a6000 designed body. Old Tech. What's up with these guys? 😎😎

I personally did not have any problems and I was shooting in the heat. No camera system is perfect so I cant fault them for cutting a couple of corners and making it affordable to compete with the R7 that does have two card slots in a much larger body. When i rented it, I knew it had limitations and worked around those and my lack of experience with the Sony system. Over all though, I was super impressed with the set up for both macro and birds. And I think as time goes by, Sony will have firmware updates that may address the heat and the inconsistent exposure I was getting for birds in flight. For the price, clarity, color and performance overall, I was impressed and pleased! 🙏🤗💖

My a6700 is the same way about exposure. Inconsistent and often wildly over, it happens with every lens I tried. I think it's a firmware bug. Using small apertures, like 14 or smaller, also gets strange results.

@@JonnyPink65 Except for the price,I think the a7R V is a better camera. The whole idea of big is kind of silly when considering Sony cameras between a6xxx and a7XX. They are all small. The a7XX at least have enough room for the pinky finger.

@@gastropodahimsa Room for the pinky finger!!😂🤣😂 Just keep it pointed up show class.... 🤣😂 - I have not had a class in a long time. In all reality the size of the body really not really a big deal - I think we all adapt to what we are shooting. It just came up as being in stock on the B&H website..... I am debating. I dont need it but I sure to do want it even with its flaws. Such a neat little camera.

It is a cheap strap that I bought on Amazon when my expensive name brand one broke - waka Rapid Camera Neck Strap with Quick Release and Safety Tether www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CLXDF9J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 It really is an awesome strap and it is affordable as well.. I have had the Canon 800mm (super heavy), my 600 F4, 500 F4 and countless other heavy set ups on this and it has been awesome. For heavy lenses, I attach to the lens or the foot and also the camera for two points of contact! 🙏💖🤗

Each of the systems I have used, have strengths and weaknesses. I really , really enjoyed shooting this awesome little camera. I am sure that if I had it for longer and really dug into the menus, I would find something that works better for the way I shoot. It took me a while to find it with the R7! I will also say that I really LOVE the deep color in the raw files that I did not see in the older Sony cameras. It is an awesome Sony offering. I look forward to what Canon will answer with!! 🙏💖🤗
