Anwser to francis. I use aps-c camera and I'm usually comfortable up to ISO 3200 if you want something very sharp, ISO 6400 can still work ok but at zoom 100% on dark sky you'll notice the noise. I know with full frame camera you can go safely to 12,800 ISO. this is just about noise, talking of dynamic range I very rarely found myself wanting "oh if I had more to slide on highlights and shadows setting...". concerning pixel density, unless you print A1/A0 you won't complain about 26 or 33 megapixels, I did some math in the past. 24 megapixel and A2 gives you about 243 dpi, so it's plenty considering you should not look at the picture below 42cm distance (due to eye field of view) @@FrancisAlbert1990

answer to halgame. the sad part of sony is updates, when you buy a camera that's what you are going to see up until EOL. there are some exceptions on very high end, like A1, but yeah everyone complains about this sony behaviour. I am 80% sure most of the new tracking features can be integrated in many A7 starting from mark "iii" and A6400/A6600. @@Dhuxul9

A6700 all the way. Had the A74, great camera but it did not live up to the capabilities of the a6700. Which camera I use most for macro? a6700 Which camera I use to shoot a picture of the moon? a6700. Which camera do I take with me for that opportunity for a great picture? a6700. Whatever mood I am in, I may take my A7R3 or a6700. I love them both. Also getting practice on my new A7CR. Depending on what I want to do, what I want to shoot, I take what suits me best. Of course, it's the a6700. As for the slight differences in the pictures, outside of the shooter, no one will know or even care. They like a well taken photo. Winner: a6700.

I just bought a Sony A6700 and have only been outside 1 time since I got it, currently sick 😷. But that one time at Copenhagen Airport, taken photos of airplanes, was definitely an eye opener for me. So much more clear photos compared to my old camera (sony RX10 IV)

The Rx10 IV is still a really nice 1in sensor, bridge camera with that 25x 24mm-600mm zoom. I rented it for a weekend this summer and was impressed with the flip up screen, and the walking around hand held 1080 p stabilization is tock solid. Did you trade it in for your A6700?
@Cthames123
@Cthames123 4 ай бұрын
A7IV. All day. And not really close, even with the similar image resolution. Grip - A7IV’s grip is so comfortable. I walk around for hours with it in my hand. The A6700’s grip is good but doesn’t match the A7IV. Controls - A7IV has easy one hand control. A7IV has a nice joystick, extra customizable buttons, and I can control ISO by spinning the D-pad with my thumb. EVF - Superior experience on the A7IV. Shutter - Fully mechanical to 1/8000s on the A7IV, but also the satisfyingly firm snap is like biting into a celery stick. IBIS - 5.5 stops is not much better than 5, but better. Size - The A6700 is smaller but the A7IV is bigger where it counts, (grip & EVF). Still, its not a big difference. More is made of the size difference between the two than what it really is. There are plenty of good/great quality, small, full frame, lenses that make the A7IV setup compact. Value - This is subjective as it depends on how one values the differences and what they are willing to pay for. I really like the A6700, and think the price vs what you get is really good. But for a comparable price (especially used) one could get a 2020 A7C and have a full frame, 24 MP, better low light performer, with every bit the tiny size. I got the A7C (64 shots), with the kit lens for $1200 open box, gently used Jan 2024 out the door. The A6700 would still based on it’s strengths be a great addition to a A7IV. It’s not that much smaller but its size would encourage one to take it places they wouldn’t want to take the A7IV. Its a strong camera and yes I would consider picking one up if a fantastic deal landed in my lap.

Those are points valid for you and that's fine. But I couldn't hear them over the 4k 120 that the a6700 is screaming. Lol. Yes it is with crop plus being on a crop sensor camera. But the a6700 has it while the a7iv doesnt
@Cthames123
@Cthames123 4 ай бұрын
@@ekenmaice1435 Thats right, If you need/want 4K 120 you’ll find it with the A6700 at almost 1/2 the price as the A7IV. 4K 24 is enough to blow my socks off, so 4K 120 would be lost on me.

I recently picked up the 6700 and love it! It's so lightweight and perfect for gimbal work. It takes a bit to get used to the range finder style view finder but that would be my only comment - not complaint. I have the 11 mm and an 18 - 50 and suddenly have an amazing kit package for most situations. BTW, I also have an A7S3 and A73. I find myself reaching for the 6700 most of the time.

Great video, very informative! And what I really like is that it made me doubt (AGAIN) the decision I thought I already made, which is going for the A7 IV. Upgrading from APSC to FF was what I thought I needed.. But now I'm not so sure anymore, even though I watched a lot (like a LOT) of informative videos on the few options that are available in my budget range. That shot of the A7 IV next to the A6700 with money for an extra lens that would give me that same-ish background blur was the nudge over the edge if the A6700 is going to be the one. Back to thinking about what it is that I need instead of what Sony wants me to think i need 😂 Thank you!

Fair comparison and side by side photos, Curtis! Your POVs demonstrate what the cams can achieve - especial for trams😊. IMO, prior investments in one sensor size or the other, plus ergonomic preferences would dominate a buyer’s decision. Comfortable gear will be used more. Lots of interest in the shutter button red cover - adhesive add-on has limitations, but cool-factor remains, unless you don’t want to draw attention.😊 Cheers!

I just purchased this camera and the benefits are many. I do just as much photography as video. I use the A73 and the A7S3. The 6700 has given me great redundancy in case there's a camera fail but is quickly becoming a preferred video option. The simplicity and light weight on a gimbal - by the end of a long day - have real value.

I respectfully disagree on the upgrade. Better Grip- Not a lot was made of the ergonomic handling in this video, but the A6700 has a much better/more comfortable grip than the A6400. Better Battery- The A6700 has the same battery as the full frame cameras, (500+ shots on a charge), whereas the A6400 has the older battery. USB type C- THE a6700’s USB-C gives faster file transfer to the PC and also faster recharge of the battery in camera charging. Better IBIS - With the A6700’s 5 stops of IBIS, you would see an appreciable difference in low shutter speed photos, (getting a clear shot handheld), and walking around handheld video stabilization would be leagues more stable with the A6700. Can use catalyst browse- The added benefit is being able to use catalyst browse with the A6700, something you can do with the A6400. Add the update to the latest Sony menu system, swipe LCD touch screen controls, in addition to a faster processor(shows up in burst shooting), updated color science, can’t miss AI auto focusing. The A6700 does not have a built in flash, but it seems better on a lit of other things compared to the A6400.

Thank you for the video. Surprised you didn’t bring in the A7CII with the same Full Frame sensor as the A7IV but an APS-C size body and the same AI assisted AF as the A6700 and also only one card slot and it’s cheaper. Those are the two I’m comparing. Also try using the Sigma 28-70/2.8 DG DN and compare that to the Sigma 18-50/2.8 DC DN for a more similar comparison than the 24-70/2.8 ART. Take care.

This was exactly my dilema. Purchased both to test and return one and ended up keeping the a6700 as the a7c ii + Sigma 28-70/2.8 DG DN did not offer much of a quality and performance difference over the a6700 + Sigma 18-50/2.8 DC DN. Opted for the cheaper more compact set up as the weight makes a difference for me. The FF lenses on the smaller a7c ii body just felt unbalanced in hand and less comfortable to use. But the apsc glass on the a6700 feel spot on
@CurtisPadley
@CurtisPadley Жыл бұрын
You're welcome. Unfortunately couldn't get my hands on one to compare it to. My findings where that the A7CII is just a smaller A7iv with a couple less features. And at the price, I think it's just worth going for a A6700. It's what roughly £500 less and offers much more video capabilities. Similar photography capabilities bar the Fullframe sensor. But saying that from the tests comparing Fullframe and APS-C, it can be hard to even notice a difference cause both do a fantastic job. Again lenses, unfortunately don't have access to all that equipment. Not made of money unfortunately 😂💰 So I tried to keep the comparison as similar and close as possible. Thanks for your comment and hope that answers your questions. Have a fantastic day! 🤙

@@CurtisPadley Thank you for your response. Probably should have mentioned that I’m really just a stills shooter so that’s my reference where a FF sensor is attractive. The compact size of the A6700’s lens family is very impressive though. Do with the A6700 I now have two lens families, bummer.

Yeah I could tell, it was the perspective, particularly on the facial features. You had to use a wider lense on the A6700 to make the field of view match. The full-frame was definitely more flattering because of that lense. Thanks for this, its really useful as I'm looking at getting my first camera for video after years of professional photography and have been wrestling with aps-c vs full-frame and should I jump ship to a new brand and so these blind tests are very useful.

It depends. If you have exactly same lens at exactly same settings (note this necessitates a different subject) then APS-C actually has less depth of field. However, typically one wants the same angle of view so one uses shorter focal lengths with APS-C. This gives more depth of field.

I have a 6400 with 35mm 1.8 and 18-105mm f/4 and I am looking for main body now, I believe 7iv should be a better deal for me isn't it Curtis? or would you differ from my thoughts? I do videos mostly. Big up for the great video. Love from India ❤

Definitely a6700. Less rolling shutter and no crop in 4K60p. You can also keep your 18-105, which is a cheap, versatile power zoom that would cost a lot more on full frame.

Yes! You are right if it's for video recording. But photos, it might not be a good decision.

The big problem with this kind of comparison is that you're not going to see the biggest difference here on a your 72dpi video screen. And bear in mind, it doesn't matter what resolution your screen is, be it 800x600, 1024x768, 1080p, or 4K, the dpi will only be about 72dpi or maybe 96 dpi. Where you're going to see the difference between APS-C and Full Frame, or maybe more accurately, between 24 megapixels, and 40 megapixels, or 61 megapixels, is when you're looking at the difference between 72 dpi and 300 dpi, or 600 dpi, from the same viewing distance. You're going to see it when you open your picture files and go to zoom in on a portion of a photo. Then, you're going to wish you had downloaded actual sample picture files if you're a photographer who actually intends to create any prints of your photos, and most especially, if you intend to make any prints ever of your photos larger than about 8x10. If that's not you, then forget everything I just said. But if you think anything I just said could be you, then listen to what I just said, and find a website where you can compare APS-C and Full Frame camera bodies and specific lenses before you buy anything. I just bought and returned an a6700 because, as good as it is, the picture files are simply not high enough resolution for what I want to do with my photographs. I already have an a6000, and although the a6700 gets the focus right more often, that's not enough for me to spend $2,000 Canadian on. I'm currently deliberating about whether to get a used Sony A7RIV and a decent used Sony 20-70 or 24-105mm lens, or if I want the AI auto-focus badly enough to wait until I can find a Sony A7CR used for less than about $3,500, which might take months if not a year or so. We'll see.

Don't forget to count the weight of full frame lenses - bought the A7IV, was too clunky, too bulky, too heavy, this dwarves the weight difference between the bare cameras . . . . Sold it and waited for the A6700. Keeping that...

I sold the A74 and my beloved 24mm GM lens and 18mm as well. Because I'm not a pack mule. Then I waited for the A6700 to become available. Bought a magnetic I-phone cooler fan. Bingo.

@CurtisPadley
@CurtisPadley Жыл бұрын
Hi dude! Don't know what the benefit would be in that? If you wanna explain further I maybe able to answer the question you have better! 😁 In terms of aperture no lens has an F3 option, it's usually F2.8, F3.2, F3.5, F4 and so on and so forth. Thanks for your comment have a great evening! 🙏

@@CurtisPadley hey Chris, in the video you said for apsc lens you have the 1.5x on aperture as well. So a full frame 2.8 on a apsc would be 4.2. The samyang 12mm f2 is pretty close to the perfect vlog lens it’s 18mm and f3 equal. I guess wanted to see if there’s any real difference between 2.8 and 3

Not quite, A7CII has mostly the same specs as A7IV bar the new AI autofocus. You won't get features like 4k 100p or 4k60p without an additional crop like you do on A6700. 👍
