I think the A7 is a great camera for someone with a lot of manual lenses.

Yeah, the Sony A7 is really great for that with a great image quality as well. 🙂 Thank you very much for watching and also for sharing your story, very much appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! 🙂

Exactly that’s what I’m using it for. Especially adapting old rangefinder lenses, which can’t be used with an SLR because they get too close to the sensor. I for example love using it with the Kiev/Contax Jupiter 12 35 mm lens. But also Sonnar clones like the Jupiter 3 or Jupiter 8 weren’t available for SLRs in 50 mm due to their too close distance to the sensor. Manufacturers tended to bring them out as 55 mm lenses in the first years of the SLRs advent. But the Sonnar is such a nice and characteristic lens, it is nice to be able to use it on a digital body.

I have this camera actually and I don’t use it so much but when I use it for street photography I do use it with old vintage lenses like the M42 lenses and the Canon FD lenses The results are nice Well it’s an ok camera but after I bought it I kinda regret it and I was like I should have bought the A6000 because it has a better auto focus and tracking I do think that the images that any Sony camera produce has no soul to it at all I still believe that using Canon or Nikon or Fuji is a better choice because each one of these has its own special soul But at the end Sony is getting bigger and bigger Sony cameras now days are amazing when it comes to Auto focus Finally for me as a Street Photographer I do appreciate any type of camera because street photography can be done with any camera The Sony A7 is a good camera to use specially with old vintage lenses

Wow, thank you very much for watching and also for sharing your story/experience, really appreciated it. :-) Yeah, the A7 isn't that good when it comes to the autofocusing performance and definitely far behind the modern Sony cameras. But you are right, it is a nice camera to experiment and mount other lenses like vintage lenses onto it. I also agree you on the point that images from Sony cameras does not really have soul to them but I also think that because of the flange distance, it does to a certain extent give life to some of the more vintage lenses. :-) Thank you so much again for watching and also for sharing your story/experience. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
@datvu66 ай бұрын
If you are using vintage lenses the A7 have a huge advantage having a full frame mirrorless sensor, so no crop factor is applied. You can enjoy the full characteristics of each lenses from multiple manufacturers in a very small form factor. I do kinda agree with the colors from image that come out of Sony camera, but after shooting RAW and getting better at editing pics it isn't much of a problem at all ;) Still a wonderful budget camera even in 2024.

What do you think of the kit lens fe 28-70 that came with the body?
@DavidCuhls2 жыл бұрын
The fe 28-70mm is actually a great and versatile lens but for roughly the same price, I would highly recommend the 28-60mm more. Sure, the fe 28-60mm aperture is not as bright on the wide end but the lens is much sharper and has better contrast control than the 28-70mm and I think it's worth the trade-off of 10mm shorter focal length. Furthermore, the 28-60mm is also much smaller and lighter, therefore it is also easier to pack if you have many equipment to carry around. However, if you are only posting the photos on social media and you're not going to print with it, the 28-70mm is really fine as well. :-) Hope that helps. I thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

What is your opinion on the original Sony A7R (36MP) ?
@arkphotog2 жыл бұрын
I’m considering a Sony (ZVE10) for KZbin video. I’ve considered a used Sony A7S2 because it’s about the same cost as the ZVE10. I use a Canon 5d3 for photography. I think I’m going to continue doing so. For my use (enthusiast - strictly KZbin), I still don’t see the benefit in switching to a mirrorless fullframe. Any thoughts regarding the A7S2 (or other used Sony ff). At what point would you recommend switching to a mirrorless fullframe?
@DavidCuhls2 жыл бұрын
I think that the A7SII is still a great and reliable camera to shoot and in terms of quality, it is still good for KZbin for sure. That being said, in general, I would not really want to recommend the mark II generation of the A7 line of cameras because the skin tones are still weird during this generation, the autofocusing system is not great, dust gets on the sensor very easily, low battery life and overall just a little inefficient camera to use. So, the ZVE10 would still be a better offer with much more reliable video autofocusing system, more accurate skin tones, works straight out of the box without fiddling around, more efficient layout as well as efficient menu design. Don't get me wrong, the A7SII is still a great camera that still produces great results. However, you really have to accept its limitations and spend extra time to work around them. Once you work around the limitations, you will end up with really good image quality results for both video and photo. But if you want a camera that already just works after powering on and quick to use, the ZVE10 would be the better option with more affordable lens options as well. :-) That was only my opinion, I would still recommend you trying both of them out if you have a chance because this is also based on how each individual would use the camera... So trying it out for yourself will definitely give you a understanding of both on how they will suit your line of work/way of operating. Hope that helps a bit. I thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting!:-)

@@DavidCuhls Apologies, but I just realized you responded to my question. I sincerely appreciate you sharing your thoughts, and providing a pretty thorough response. I'll go ahead with the ZVE10. I think it will provide all I need to learn video and editing. There are also lots of nice lenses available, so that should be fun as well. Thanks again for your help. I truly enjoy your videos and the images/video you capture from gear that has already been out (and is still amazing gear)! Your "My Failed Photoshoot..." was really fun, and I think think adventures / situations such as that make the photoshoot (and photography in general) much more memorable and fun! - Unrelated - I am trying to find a fun, fast lens for my Canon 5d3, but nothing crazy expensive. It doesn't need to be super sharp, but I'd like something pretty fast (e.g. f0.95). I'd mostly like to play/experiment with the photos. Any chance you have any recommendations on lenses to try (preferably 50, 85mm, but open to 24, or 35)? - Thanks again!!!

That camera has the same grip as the A6000/6100/6300/6400. I solved the grip issues with a Battery grip.
@DavidCuhls8 ай бұрын
Yeah, but those grips weren't pleasant either... For me adding a battery grip doesn't really solve the issue since the it doesn't make the ergonomics that much better (of course, Sony did realised that and improved the grip on the Mark ii version and my Sony A7 IV feels much better but still lacking behind Canon and Nikon by a lot... That said, this is very subjective...). I thank you very much for watching as well as for sharing your experience. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

@@DavidCuhls Thanks men. I currently shoot events with two A6000s and the grips help a lot with heavy primes like the Sigma 28mm f1.4 and the 85mm f1.4.

Would you recommend this or the 6d in 2024. They’re about the same price.
@DavidCuhls3 ай бұрын
This depends on what you're looking for. So the reason that I would recommend the 6d over the A7 would be the better autofocusing system (better in lowlight, more accurate and faster). The 6d also has better colour rendition at this point since this was the stage where Sony's colour science was still weird and the rendition isn't so good compare to brands like Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Pentax. Lastly, the 6d is just a tougher camera with much quieter shutter. The quiet shutter shutter of the 6d not only works better in quieter places but it also causes less vibration, which can be more useful when when using slightly slow shutter handholding the camera. (There is also the benefit of being able to buy cheaper but still good lenses for the Canon over the Sony). The reason to pick the A7 over the 6D would be the smaller form factor, lighter body and also the articulating screen. The A7 also has a slightly sharper video quality and a tiny bit more dynamic range albeit with a bit weird. colour rendition (in my opinion). I hope this helps. I thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting :-)

How it it for manual lenses focusing?
@datvu66 ай бұрын
It's great! I use focus peaking and hyperfocal distance when shooting with wider lenses. For longer lenses there's a magnifying button in which you can remap and hit critical focus. Works wonder for older lenses too.

D600,D750, even D700 are just as old, better and half the price.Same.for older Canons, cheaper and better. I have no idea why 10+ year old Sony cameras sre $500-$800. Why are they still so expensive? I don't get it.

Do you think the eos 6d is a better buy than the a7?
@socksonfeet81253 ай бұрын
@@brunodrakenas9575 yup, I've seen 6D's go for $200-$250 US. Still half off of a Sony a7. You can use that extra $200-250 difference for batteries, sd cards, a nice lens or two, caps, transfer cable, and a strap. Even a 5D OG produces fantastic photos, and those can be found for around $150 US. Sony has a reputation of being the "cheapest full frame" when its not at all, lol.
