Jason, I’m looking for a b cam for my a7siii. I’m developing a KZbin channel and I think I’ll upload videos in 1080p. Use the A7siii as my primary cam and the A7C as an over angle and as a street photography cam. If I need something for more professional shoots I can use my eos r5(which I don’t like for video) is the A7C a good fit for me in your opinion. This would be an alternative to buying an a1 and using the a7siii as the b cam. Thoughts?

great review Jason, and welcome back from your family trip. I'm still deliberating on purchasing the #Sony A7c #BeAlpha yes am waiting to see what's next, but am wanting to step up from a Sony A6400. Fab review and helpful as usual. Also - another review follow up you could do is with the Sony ZV-1, as this too has been out for a year now and has had a firmware update for direct streaming via usb, I have the camera now as a B cam and webcam.
@JasonVong3 жыл бұрын
@@patrickwilliam8060 I think if you are just shooting in 1080p, the a1 would be way too much of an overkill and even then I think I'm understating it lol I would vote for the a7C given the choices you've listed.
@patrickwilliam80603 жыл бұрын
@@JasonVong that’s the option I’m leaning towards. I think if I didn’t have the eos r5 I might use the a1. But since I’m only shooting photos 20-30% of the time there is no real advantage to the A1 over the a7 I already have. And since I’m not printing anything the 24 mp shooter will be plenty. Thank you sir

I use the Sony A7C as my main camera and I'm a professional videographer and the quality I can achieve is outstanding, it's light, portable and easy to use. I can't stand this race to have the "most professional" camera possible and then shoot bad video.The equipment is only part of the game, the most important thing is to have something to say, otherwise it's just appearance.

Hi Jason, I’ve been enjoying the a7c and the RX100VII for about 8 months. I purchased them after watching many KZbin videos including yours! I’m a beginner photographer and having so much fun with both cameras. I’ve purchased many of your lens recommendations and I’m very happy with them all and I sold the kit lens. I’m contacting you from Victoria, Australia. We are still in lockdown. I’m in a regional area which is very beautiful and a joy to photograph . Your videos are fabulous and give me so much inspiration and joy. We are looking at another 3 months of being locked up. I’m losing hope that life will get back to some sense of normal and miss my family and friends soooo much. Keep doing what your doing. Ive just watched your latest video in which you mention receiving many negative comments and understandably it effects you. Your positivity is one of the things that keeps me going along with my partner, dog, local friends and shows like Ted Lasso. I’m sure there are many like me out there. Big thanks to you, Vivienne and your team. Keep having fun and doing what your doing.

Here's the best way to make use of gyro data, for those who are interested. Shoot in 1080p, 60 fps. Set the shutter speed to 1/125 to 1/160, IBIS off. Stabilize in catalyst browse and then go down to 24fps. This gives fairly usable footage. That footage is not very grading friendly though due to lesser bitrate so the more you expose it right in camera, the better.
@CC-gt3ro Жыл бұрын
I use the a7c for several years now and i like it very much. I added a smallrig cage 3212 which makes it heavier but it is now more stable in videos. Also the v2 firmware add the eye AF for animal in videos. I also bought the professional flash and it increase the quality of the photos with the fill flash and bounce techniques. With a little more knowledge, the a7c is really a pro camera hybrid. The best is to have the wide lens tamron and the tele lenses with the flash covering all these range. I added also the bluetooth remote and a pro microphone Azden smx30 mono/stereo for the best sound quality. To complement this kit a crane m3 or a weebill 3 will make it definitive package for everything. 24mp very good in low light, HLG3 movie hdr quality. Even if it is 8 bit video the quality is very high. The smallrig 3212 adds a nice grip, make it more stable in video. It is important as the camera is TOO lightweight and every movement is recorded and the Ibis in motion video is not capable like a a7r5. But making it heavier with a cage and microphone and improves a lot the stabilization. The gyro stabilization is good also with increased shutter speed to 1/200s when we want motions. Ibis is very good for photo (even with my tamron at 300mm as soon it is static or few motion) and static video (especially with the cage 3212 handle) . Adding a flash improves your photos more than buying a new camera or lenses. You must learn how to use it and set your camera with the flash to improve the quality. Lighting is important. Not simply the body. All components around are important. For less or equal than just only the body a7R5 you get a full photo/video package fullframe 24mp 4k video, sound , light, I recommend it even today in 2023.

I have the a7c for a year now, and we like very much the quality of our photos and videos. I now start to know well the menus and settings. I also experienced post stabilization with catalyst browse which works really as soon as you know how to set your camera. For me i set at 1/250 and steady shot off. And it works very well. Near Gimbal like quality. I have a setting ready to go for this type of videos (setting 2). I reserve that only for walking videos. Everything else is just fine with ibis. Photos are really really good. With tamron 17-28 and 70-300. I use a lot aps-c mode in videos and sometime in photo for wildlife photography. The sony a7c is very high end camera and beautiful as well. Good to have, would be active stabilization like a7siii and now a7iv. Eye tracking in video for animal like in the a7iv. Focus assist, and the camera would be perfect. 4k60 would be nice but i don’t like big files to manage. 4k24 and 1080p120 are fine for me.

I can add. I own a 7C for half a year, the Tamron 17-28 F2.8 and Tamron 28-200 / are more suitable for video, it is inconvenient to take photos through a small viewfinder. On the street, the screen is completely bad, you can't see anything. For operational shooting, the 7C is not very convenient, it is not a convenient grip, there are few buttons. The high-power objects make it almost as large as 7M3.

Hey Jason, love your vid. Wanna ask some advice, if I want to use A7C as a webcam in my desk, could you recommend which lens I have to use? 20MM? Thanks before.

Awesome video. Been using the a7c for a few months and Im involve with it. Currently only have the 1.4 35mm GM and the kit lens. What are some other lenses I should add to the collection for mostly video?

Thanks for such a thoughtful video. I've been researching A7C, but it looks like Sony doesn't have a dummy battery power unit that is compatible with this camera? Or do you know of a reliable alternative?

I like the concept of the a7C. But since I have the a7RIII and a6600, I may wait for the a7C II, hopefully with 10bit video and 4K 60fps.

even A1 doesn't do 10bit, so that may be a bit wishful. don't know why sony won't do 10bit - probably an overheating thing?

Hi jason, first I love your videos! Good inspiration! Are you still using your A7C? I own the A7C since the end of 2020. I love this camera! Do you have some issues with the camera? For me after a bit more than a year I have some issue with the shutter release button. The middle position of the button doesn’t work anymore! Do you have similar experiences? Regards Ken

What irritated me more with A7C is the neck strap as you mentioned and the placement of the menu button on the middle, which was harder to reach when you need to back out of a menu. I returned the one I bought as new and after a long wait, I found one open box with everything inside for $400 less. That I would think is a real price for A7C.

Great video Jason! A purely Nikon shooter here but you've sold me to adopt this Sony into the mix simply with the line "long time photographers with aging back problems". LOL. (New subscriber by the way, I'll be going through your other videos after knocking this one out. Thanks for the info about the A7C.)
@JasonVong3 жыл бұрын
welcome to the channel! I meant it when I said "aging back problems" My Korea trip def took a toll on me carrying all these gear, but on the days I just need to shoot with the a7C, some reason I just end up with a lot of photos that I like more 🤷

I love my a7c, I don't have large hands it's actually the perfect size for me. I have a zhiyun weebill s for video and I love how light the combo is. I can carry it all day on weddings. I usually use the 35mm f2.8 ziess or the sigma 17-28mm f2.8 contemporary. Both tiny lenses. I do also use the 85mm 1.4 G master and it doesn't bother me that the body is so small.

Loved the video! Thanks for sharing! I definitely couldn't wait and got the A7C when it came out a few months ago. I've been using it to film all my talking head shots for my videos. I'm excited to finally get out to shoot in the real world when I start traveling again! Please make a video about the A7SIII! I'd love to know your thoughts on how it's been going the last several months. This is basically my dream camera- maybe someday :)

I loved your video. I got a pixel 6 pro last year and take great pics but I don't like the user interface as much as Samsung's. I got the S22 ultra a couple days ago and I love the user interface but pixel takes better pics. I am thinking in staying with Samsung and just buying a Sony A7C and keep it for years and stop buying new phones every year or couple years. What do you think?

Looks like a great "video body" for hybrid shooters. Smaller gimbal, no EVF bulk in the way, shoots past 30 minutes if you are asked for a tripod shot like interviews and docs. I don't really see this as the "street photography" camera unless you also like burning money. If it's just photos you can get an RP or Z5 or older models of any FF camera. But yeah, for people on a budget this body with a basic tiny lens and the cheapest gimbal is probably the cheapest way to produce videos that, simply, don't suck.

That A7c is awesome. That's what I miss about the A6000's I had, before going to a A7II. I love the compactness of the body on the A7c, but still getting the full frame goodness... My favorite lens is the Sony Sonnar T* FE 35mm f/2.8 ZA Lens. GREAT video btw!
@RyanHicks3062 жыл бұрын
I have and love the A7C. My only issue is lenses I used to use with my A7iii and Ronin SC (e.g. Sony 20mm, 1.8) does not seem to balance properly. I assume it is the imbalance of lens to camera as the camera is now lighter. Of the recommended lenses you have listed, what would you recommend as a good match for gimbal work? I know the new compact primes are great and are listed on DJI's website as compatible (Sony 20mm, 1.8 while only slightly heavier is not).
