Sony a7C vs a7Rii

A7r ii is still a beast in 2022 for landscape photography. I still have it as a secondary camera to complement my A9. So far haven’t felt the need to upgrade from this combo.

I actually have both - got the a7c to upgrade over my a6000. The a7RII and a7c are complementing each other very well. The a7c I use it mostly for "on the run" shooting, portraits and motion... the a7RII I use it for my macro and nature shots :).

I just bought a second hand A7Rii and I couldn't be happier. The main use will be photograph and I really need the 42M. I do my own color calibration and don't really need all the new gimmick of the a7c. I already got 4-5 small batteries...

modern aftermarket a7rii batteries carry more life now and super cheap. also recording a video for 9hrs (on and off) used me 6 batteries

Being a photographer only is GREAT these days. Any camera in like the last 5 years is still "pro" quality. The A7Riii is becoming a absolute steal getting a mint one used at 1700ish. All upgrades for the foreseeable future are going to be video centered.

I bought the a7rii at launch and the screen just died 5 years later. I'd think the a7c screen would last longer because of the new design. Aside from durability the a7rii is still worth getting in 2021.

This was my exact thought process, recently picked up an A7Rll with a sony GM 24M 1.4 / Tamron 35M 2.8. I Travel and shoot for fun and wanted 42mp too push both lens.

Great comparison. I've been using the A7c to shoot street in NYC for the last year. I absolutely love it, for sure. With the Zony 35/2.8... it's extremely discreet and small. Fantastic for catching people. Buuuuut. The EVF plus lack of external controls has been hitting me pretty hard. Especially when using adapted vintage lenses. The A7Rii goes used for like $750 here now. I'm thinking it's about time to pick one up! I'd love the extra megapixels for cityscape shots and I really want proper exposure triangle setup for manual shooting.... which A7c mind-bogglingly doesn't have. I'm pretty sure the combo is the perfect setup.

Another difference, the A7C can only go to 1/4000th of a second, so HSS is a limitation.

A7RII is just perfect for product photography. In my opinion, the A7R II is by no mean a "fast" camera. Its megapixel count is a bit too heavy for its processor to handle (at that time) and it affects the overall speed to this camera. The read/write speed is suffering, the wake up from standby is also pretty slow, lack of FPS shoot, etc. But the image quality is a beast. When taking raw images, oh man, the Dynamic Range is quite something. I can pull the highlight and shadow out of nowhere. When I bought this camera, the A7III was also in the market. And for my purpose, A7RII still tops the A7III, as I believe as well that A7RII also tops A7C. Great video, too few people highlighting the A7RII for its purpose. Well, I experienced it first hand as many people questioned my choice to pick A7RII over the A7III back in the day.

Just got the a7rii and tbh, the autofocus is good, it has eye af for portraits. It’s only flaw is that it’s not gonna work for wildlife because of the older af and 5 frames per second is not enough.

I have taken tons of great bird shots with my a7rii....AF snobs are hilarious to me. I was around when there weren't any digital cameras. It didn't stop people from capturing amazing wildlife and sports photos

A used A7r II is about 1/2 the price + 42MP + better EVF + not much heavier = great deal. That equation works for me.

I'm going to add to this real quick because nobody explains it fully... the Sony A7rii actually does much more than 5fps. uncompressed raws shoot 5fps yes... BUT COMPRESSED raws shoots like almost 17+ and yes compressed raws you still obtain detail information to edit so perfect for sports shooting without shooting jpegs. Jpegs mind as well say all day long. Next, I never experience overheating with mine and i have my 30min cap off. Move your screen away from the backing and you should be fine. If you're shooting video, manual should be what you use anyways but I too use af for quick focus but i hit the button to turn it to manual. Don't sleep on the Sony A7r II, it's a beast of a camera and if you hybrid shoot, you can get some hella details and i mean FX3 details. Lastly, gimbal for the Rii is equal to needing it for the other one as well. The stabilization is good to a point but a gimbal will correct a lot of defects. Using a good glass lens with it will do even greater. Sony A7R Mark II is beast in my book and I love mine. i MIGHT get the RIV but i can handle the Riii too

Thanks for this video... I'm a fulltime photographer from Indonesia, I shoot stills, products, pre-wedding studios and weddings. Looking for a backup camera for my A7R mark 3. Was considering A7C or the A7R mark 2, but the price difference is still high, especially here in Indonesia. So I choose the A7R mark 2 in that sense. And your video is some sort of an approval for my decision. LoL. - Expecting my A7R mark 2 coming this Friday

got my A7R II for 950. it's only for landscape and timelapse so idc about video tracking af and stuff. the AF in my a6300 is fine for me and they share the AF systems from what I understand

I love my a7rii. Unless you primarily shoot video or sports I see no need for the newer Sony. Coming from older Canon DSLR FF the old rii feels like alien tech. People that say the af isn't good or not fast enough I say have not been shooting for too long. I've been shooting for over 20 years and the AF is plenty capable of sports and wildlife. What happened when they didn't even have AF with film cameras?? They were like oh well I guess we can't shoot sports n such lol. Even this rii feels like cheating to me. Pick up a 5dii and compare the af lol. That in it's day was a pro camera that covered tons of sports events. Now it's af is comical even compared to an a7rii. I shot nfl football with a 5dii. I still own both of these cameras. I can't seem to part with my nostalgic 5dii. To me the operator and process totally outweighs having the newest gear

A7rii is still a BEAST of a landscape photography camera. Own one and need nothing more. Easily best value out there for stills and non-moving subjects. If you are shooting wildlife or sports, not so much..

I’ve personally owned the A7rii for the last 5 years and I must say that it’s awesome for pictures and video , 1080 120 fps? 42 megapixel ? It’s really awesome but overtime the startup to the camera was slow , the reaction time of turning on once flicking the button on , it turns on to the screen 3 seconds later , also the autofocus isn’t that great and fast , I’ve rocked the tamron 28 to 75 and the Zeiss f4 24 to 70 and the autofocus wasn’t that fast , for me the a7c looks like the winner due to the video performance , 24 megapixel is enough for the kind of photography that I do
