Hey folks....I've been working on a way to utilize that 4th bracket and have come up with Matte-box mount idea. The matte-box is custom made (out of black plastic paint trays). I'll upload a video upon completion. Cheers!!

love the set up, one of your best gear vids thus far that I've seen.... yes I'm also including the world famous frugal camera rig made from pvc pipe... what's the total cost of this rig set up including the LCD monitor? I wished we seen more vids but I understand that stone wall (of blankness) that plagues us all eventually. looking to finish my set up before I start a new project and I've got budget for everything in this endeavor.

I love all the in depth builds and the frugal cage etc, but have you ever thought of doing a single person crew and use two cameras, one on wifi or phone control? I would also like to know where you source the mounts for the exterior batteries. I have a pair of panasonic HC X920s and would love to have external battery supplies for each of them. My new camera is in the rig, with my older Sony NEX 5n shooting this video. The camcorder is used for the overhead table shots.

If you just want it for sun protection, I recommend a Rubber Collapsible Lens Hood and step up/down rings (check Ebay), get them to be wider than your lens so that it doesn't vignette and use the step up ring. You can also add a variable ND and since the 'matte box' is rubber, you can easily stick your hand in and adjust the ND and use the step down ring to get it to fit, or get a wider ND, you never know when you need one. But, if you want a professional matte box, then it has to stay on rails. Check out how the frugal filmmaker raised his camera up with QR plates, but instead use a rail system to raise it up. That will give you two holes under your camera for placing rails

That's an interesting idea, though I'd worry about that flimsy cable and the safety of my footage. I think I'd rather have it locked up in the camera and dump it at the end of the day.

A7II? Do you mean A7SII or A7RII?

No, it's just the A7II. the S is the super low light model and the R is more of a still camera. Both are about $1300 more expensive than just the "II" model.

Sorry but it's a mess, this setup. There's no way to take this off of the tripod and on to your shoulder quickly. But hey, you build it the way that suits you best, I realize that. But this would never work for me.

I'd agree it's not for quick shouldering, but that not my intent. This setup pretty much lives on a tripod.
