Best comparison of GH5 vs A7iii on KZbin. As a vlogger making product reviews and filming my dogs at the park, I would rather have a built in flip screen than having to buy an external monitor. And GH5 fixed autofocus to be good enough, my biggest concern. At first I had full frame envy, but better image stabilization and not bad in low light. Plus I save $500. I changed my mind and and I'm sold on GH5. Thanks for the no bias review!!

What amazes me is that the GH5, at two years old, still outruns everything else on the market in video capability. And as an all around useful hybrid camera, it still has no peer. Combined with Panasonic's Leica glass, it still represents a formidable force. All the latest hoopla surrounding all the new full frame offerings hasn't changed that. As witnessed by the continuing use of GH5 by a number of youtube photographic/video channels. Panasonic would be foolish NOT to upgrade this platform to stay ahead of the game. Their SR series can't come close in value for dollar spent. Regards,

Indeed. I could not afford the GH5 and just got a G80 (85) + 12-60mm Lumix. I shot an airshow with it yesterday (95% 4k 24fps, rest stills) and the video and stills quality is outstanding for the price. Further, the auto focus handled tracking fast moving aircraft with aplomb. So the GH5 must be heaven!

Hello there, Im still not yet convinced which system I'd start on my videography carrer. Both have their own features where one shines, the others are not. Basicly as I think now: Low light - Sony Stabilization - Lumix Great AF - Sony Much better codecs, and specs - Lumix So it depends on my needs, and at that point im struggling, because "I want it all... I want it now.." :D

Another great video! You're one of the few people, who can make an objective comparison between a top FF Sony and a MFT Camera....even if they are comparable or not, the MFT cameras are still not taken very serious, especially as far as photography is concerned. I love my GH5 and never understood, how everybody can praise the video quality and at the same time ask the question, if one can make good stills with the same camera. Why the hell not? Anyone knows about he advantages of full frame, but there are so many advantages for MFT.... Thanks for the excellent video!

Yes, full frame cameras are generally better in low light, but it also depends on lenses.

I'm really considering getting one of these cameras. I am mainly going to do video in outdoor/nature settings and streaming/gaming. I especially love to do photo/video of the sky. Sunsets and sunrises make up most of my phone gallery. I am very careful with my electronics, but No matter how careful I am though, I will be in freezing temperatures with wind at some points. I also do care about battery life, but not so much as to let it be a deal breaker because I know many cameras have small enough batteries that it won't be too heavy to carry multiple. I don't mind having to learn a new menu and other details, but I do like the more free moving screen that can flip toward the front. I do love the features that both of these cameras bring, but I'm still on the ropes about which camera to get. Thoughts?

No, that will not help you in low light. It is best not to use flat profile in low light on GH5, I actually got the best result by using Standard picture style in low light. If you want low light camera, GH5S or A7 III will be better choices.

Does it start to introduce artifacts relatively easy? 2) You said that the IBIS on the A7III is good enough for holding the camera still on wide angles, how does it do with something like 80mm? 3) Do you have any ungraded slog2 and maybe cine4 footage that you could share so people could test grade?

I have a question about the flip out rotating screen of the GH5. When flipping the screen 180º for vlogging and stuff like that, the display mirrors as to make it more natural feeling for the filmmaker. I personally, however, find this mirroring terribly annoying; I want to see exactly what the camera is taking and thus what the audience would see. So do you know if there's a way to turn this mirroring off?

Hey, if your still answering questions on this video. Please may I ask how does this camera do in low light with the prime 25mm f1.7? Surely it does okay I'm a city that's resonably well lite, without having to use too high an iso, and I don't see many films or videos where people are zooming in during a video/film at night!? Obviously any camera if you take it too a dark field it's going to suck! Like say you went to a town centre at night, London or down a main Street with good street lighting,!? Would really help and approximate your opinion

The GH5 is an awesome camera. It's just not for low light shooting. I also found it has pretty severe flare issue when shooting into a window or such. The S1 is another story completely.

Looking to invest in a new camera and would be interested in your perspective ~ I've been researching the most impressive options and these two are still among the top choices. Any thoughts on whether its worth waiting for the next edition of both these cameras? I've heard good things about the possibilities of the Panasonic GH6, as well as the Sony A7S III. I plan to utilize both the photo and video capabilities of the camera. The 2 main goals will be geared towards shooting nature photography and filming action sports. Travel often and enjoy natural landscape photography in the mountains, forests, and beaches. The filming capabilities of these cameras is why I've been aiming towards these. A majority of the film and photography will be on a wide angle lens for sports (skateboarding and ice hockey) and exploring the mountains. Any recommendations between these two based on these? Stabilization and balance is important for the sports, although I plan to film on a glidecam or gimbal for smooth video. Also heard many things about the filming capabilities of the next generation models of these (Panasonic GH6, as well as the Sony A7S III), which is why I've be holding on, although these are both excellent cameras! Men that autofocus smoothness really look nice in a7s, but 4k 60 fps on gh5 is also nice XD men those choices. Actually I like both these cameras. I'm stuck on gh5 and g9 . Literally can't decide . Watched endless reviews . I want to use 80% video so gh5 is the video camera . But g9 has ibis 6.5 stops better auto focus is cheaper and has some great photography capabilities. The only thing is the loss of control on high frames .

@@dr.0ne322 It requires you to switch the camera to permanent service mode which definitely voids the warranty and a lot can go wrong if you use that camera that way. It is very bad idea. Get the GH5 if you need unlimited video.

Don't you have issues with A-data V90 card while high speed shooting (corrupted images) or while timeleapse video is creating? I had to return 2 cards due to this. See here kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIWrcqKLf7GNr6c

It works well up to 200 Mbps, but I have had issues when shooting 400 Mbps ALL-I.

@@TheHybridShooter the card can't keep consistent write speeds, also during timeleapse creation I had almost always camera freeze due to this faulty cards. Also after stopping the recording it took looong time to write data from buffer to those cards, in some cases around 10s, and I couldn't start a new recording until the recording was written to the cards. If you could, replace it. I have two Sony grey cards, without any V rating, but they don't have that issue. Only one disadvantage - I can't dual record 400Mbit due to the fact that camera is checking v90 rating and they don't have them. Single card with 400Mbit is OK.

Depends on what are you using it for. Low light is very good on GH5S, although not as good as on A7 III.

The A7 III. is unbeatable for low light work. It's all down to personal preference and what task it is needed for as you mentioned. @@TheHybridShooter
