Which option is best when shooting multiple individuals? How to focus on all subjects? Please advise. Thank you! 8:22
@SohilPandya1 Жыл бұрын
This is a difficult question to answer because it’s as much to do with where everyone is in the image and the aperture you’re shooting at. Ideally shoot at a minimum of f4 and no lower! Also make sure the people are in a similar plane. If one person is closer to the camera cos the rest of the group. The chances are you won’t be able to get everyone in focus. I use tracking 100% of the time nowadays and just point it at the person I want to focus on and start shooting. Hope this helps. Any more questions just fire away.

Just bought the Sony a7 IV. Still testing it out. I came from all Canon so this Sony is a bit of a challenge. Big question: Should I be seeing these clusters of square in the EVF as I attempt to take a picture? Well I'm not! The camera is brand new and I bought from a very reputable retailer. I can't believe there's a defect but I sure as hell am not see any "dancing squares" when I attempt to focus (regardless which Focus Area setting I use). Yes, a single red box will appear when in certain focus modes and yes, I can move the red box using the joy stick (in most situations - not ALL). So what's the verdict here. Is it me or the camera??? Lastly but not least, this is probably the best presented and best explained tutorial over all the other videos (on this subject) I have viewed. I give this an A+

0:50 "...as long as I kept the shutter half-pressed..." I would like to use the camera for video on a gimbal? Is it not a possibility since I have to half-press the button for continuous EyeAF? Or is there a setting so that I don't have to hold the shutter button half-way down?

Very useful video! I've been looking for the main differences between the current Eye AF systems and this helped a lot in understanding the Sony part of the comparison. One question that wasn't explicitly mentioned in the video: you say around 7:35 that the tracking will turn on Eye AF as soon as it recognises a person, but does it do the same thing with animals and birds? Or do you need to be in the other AF Modes for that? Thank you for your reply!

This was so helpful! I've watched a lot of videos but this one explained it the most clearly. I went from my Nikon D750 to the Sony A7IV and am struggling to understand it. I'm a family photographer so most times I have more than one person in the shot. When they're sitting/standing still for.a posed family shot it sounds like Flexible Spot is the way to go (I can choose the person in the front of the group and set focus on them). For photos where they're moving around or I want to focus in on different people to put the rest out of focus, it sounds like Tracking (with flexible spot?) is what you suggest. Does this sound correct?
@SohilPandya12 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it and happy that the focusing modes made sense to you. I think you’re right on how you would utilise the functionality. Personally, I set it to flexible tracking spot for 70% of my work. Last option in the list. Does both of what you mention reasonably well.
@lisaliberati98492 жыл бұрын
@@SohilPandya1 Great thanks. And touch screen works for focusing? I'm thinking of my usual scenario where I have a family sitting on a blanket and I get some group shots but then go in close and put one kid in focus to snap some candids (not always the one closets to the lens) and move focus around to different people. Can I have it in flexible tracking spot but then use m finger on the screen to touch who I want it to focus on?

Great video man! Question, what do you use when shooting group photos? Zone?
@SohilPandya12 жыл бұрын
Great Question. With groups of people you want to do a couple of things. 1. Shoot at higher aperture (f4-5.6) 2. Use one of the Spot modes This way you will always have reasonable focus on the whole group.

@SohilPandya1 Жыл бұрын
I'm glad it's helped you! How similar would you say the settings have been for the A7RV vs this A7IV?
@whobedannyd Жыл бұрын
@@SohilPandya1 I have only had my A7RV for a couple of weeks, but I absolutely LOVE what I have gotten from it so far. It appears that the major differences between it and the A7RIV are video-related, especially with 8K, and with the articulating screen. As far as the settings go, it appears that there are very few differences. Focus Stacking appears to be the only major difference. I haven't tried it yet, but hope to soon, especially with Moon shots. I haven't tried anything with video yet. I doubt if I'll use 8K very much, but we'll see. I'm an amateur wildlife photographer, and I think this new rig will certainly help. Time will tell. Thank you again! Subscribing to your channel now!
@SohilPandya1 Жыл бұрын
@@whobedannyd I'm jealous of the articulating screen! it's a very good one :) What lens do you use for wildlife photography? Have you got the 200-600 or 100-400? Appreciate the subscription!
@whobedannyd Жыл бұрын
@@SohilPandya1 With my Canon 90D, I used the Canon 100-400 Series II and the Sigma 60-600. The Canon is actually a better quality lens, but of course it doesn't have the reach. I have been very happy with the Sigma. When I bought the A7RV, I bought the Sony FE 100-400 with the Sony 2x adapter. I think the lens is great, but haven't had success so far using the doubler. I didn't, however, have the necessary arca-swiss adapter to set the Sony lens onto my tripod. I have one now, but haven't tried that combo yet. I also broke down and bought a Sigma MC-11 adapter for Canon to Sony mounting. It works PERFECTLY with my Sigma 60-600. It's a heavy rig, but I am getting some WONDERFUL shots!!
