The sony a7iv is better than the Sony FX6 and the A7III in 4k. It produces a sharper image with better dynamic range but at the expense of worse rolling shutter. If rolling shutter means a lot to you than the FX6, A7SIII & the FX3 might be your choice.
The biggest difference between the FX6 and the A7IV is the work flow and extra features most cinema cameras have. Internal variable ND filters, SDI output, XLR input, Timecode, DCI 4k, and more.

QUESTION: can you output to USB livestream while also concurrently outputting via HDMI the camera's monitoring display (focus mapping) to an external monitor? This would be killer because no other camera can do this! Yes, I can flip the camera out but that thing is tiny from 3-4 feet away, rendering focus mapping near useless. Looks like the ideal 4K30 talking head and livestream YouTubing camera where rolling shutter is a non-issue. The plug-n-play USB plus S-Cinetone direct to laptop or PC is a game changer for remote work.

Thanks for showing the 1080 comparison, they're hard to find these days. I'm a full time freelancer and I still do 90 percent of my video work in HD. I feel like 4K seem more important to people on KZbin than for many clients, but I don't do commercials where having great resolution is necessary. I only do ENG for broadcast and corporate social media (mainly for LinkedIn and Facebook) where it doesn't make much difference.

It's so much fun reading comments. :-) After comparing the images a few times, I'm thinking to myself how much I like the A7-IV colors more than the magenta look of the other two cameras. Seems I'm in the minority. I did acquire an A7-IV after some years, sold my original A7s which was really magenta at times and have wanted to get another Sony since I like the 55mm 1.8 lens. (still have an A6300). I also have a Lumix S5 and Canon R5 (I know, I know, G.A.S big time), so I'm having fun comparing them with both, modern and vintage (Contax, Leica R, and Nikkor) lenses. But anyway, on my ViewSonic 32" monitors I do like how the A74 compares to the others. I think two things are in play: Monitor calibration (mine are factory and could be off) and personal preference (probably the bigger factor in the big scheme of things). After all, why have "creative looks," artistic grades, and all the rest, if we're after perfect colors? Unless we're calibrating with a gray card every time the lighting changes even a little, auto WB will probably shift colors one way or the other regardless... after all, it's taking an average of the entire scene. Bottom line, it's all fun.

In s&q mode, yes it has 422 10 bit option. but not in regular 120p mode.

Yes I was here for the same question. In playing with my camera, you can get it to 4:2:2 in 120 FPS HD in s&q. Can you save this setting somehow???

Ok I got it!!! Switch to manual. Then go into image quality, then S&Q settings and select 24 rec frame rate and 120FPS frame rate with 4:2:2 10 bit. From there, switch the dial to s & q. Then go back to image quality, shooting mode, camera set memory and choose a slot to save this. It will have this setting in s&q dial mode only and not when it’s in video mode. Hope this helps! I am super pumped!!!!!

Thank you Jason! I just recently invested in better lighting. I had a set of Neewer lights (660 with the softboxes). They work well but I noticed a big difference when using an Aputure Light Dome II. My skin tone looks much better. You are not kidding when you say lighting is essential. I do notice the green shift when using the A7iv.

Duuude get the p60c i had the pair of 660s with the softboxes and one amaran p60c is brighter than both the 660s combined and looks so much better. I also got the 200 d with the light some se and the 2 together is an amazing combo around 550 bucks

Great video! Glad to hear you mention the a7 IV green shift as well vs. other Sony cameras. I've noticed white balancing my a7S III and a7 IV in the exact same conditions, the a7 IV will often +M2 whereas the a7S III won't have any magenta shift indicated. Not much concern with S-Log3 since I'll always do more grading later anyway, but I've ended up baking in a color phase adjustment for a7 IV in-color camera profiles (e.g. S-Cinetone) to account for it.

I actually bought a7Siii for that insane rolling shutter speeds and the 1080p quality. Well you can argue that why not shoot in 4k all the time but realistically fantastic 1080p quality and 10bit 4.2.2. can really help you post shoot.

"better" definitely subjective. Fortunate to have picked up two A7IV at launch to satisfy my fast paced photo needs (GFX is still my preferred system for commercial work). But the image from the FX6 is more pleasing to me no matter 4k or 1080. Having control over noise reduction and having a softer/smoother image - especially in the highlights and edges is something I can't go back from. It's spoiled me for sure.

I'll take dynamic range and noise reduction control over sharpness anyday. FX6 is a much more pleasing UHD image. I use a black pro mist with my art glass on my FX6 as I find the image too sharp. Sharpness and resolution are completely overrated in terms of what makes a superior image. The A7IV is a hybrid entry level camera that doesn't offer the frame rates of the other two so the conversation is a non starter imo. Does your title mean you honestly think A7IV has a better image in UHD or is this just a cheeky bit of clickbait?!!

What do you mean low quality lights flicker? All lights flicker because AC electricity has a sine wave frequency of 60hz. So the light has voltage variations 60 times per second

Sharpness doesn't equal better... Clickbait title. Obviously the a7IV which downsamples to 4k will be sharper. The FX6 has the superior image, no tweaking necessary. The a7iv inherited the green skin of the a7siii... which was fixed on the a1, fx3, and fx6. A7iv is a wonderful stills camera but, no comparison to cinema line, period. Nice try.

@@trogdor then u didn't look hard enough homie. Go watch Gerald undone's a7siii review... He even offered ways to try to fix it in the in-camera picture profiles. Thennnn, he proceeded to switch to an A1 because that green tint is gone. Also see Vistek's a7siii, fx3, and fx6 comparison @ 8mins.. the a7siii has pale looking green skin, while fx3 was perfect & more saturated, and the FX6 was very airy, and lower contrast, but normal skin. I didn't mistype at all my guy.

I expected the A7iv to be the best. However, an a7iii body can cost around 1600. Is the 900 difference worth it? Can the A7iv with a 24-70 sony lens (1,500) (total of 4,000) beat an A7iii(1600) with a 24-70(1500) lens, godox Ad600 with a softbox and stand(900)(total 4000), or a godox ad200pro with stand and box and slider and lumix led(900)?

Hi Jason, great video! I have one question: are you sure that A7 IV in 120fps/100fps has 10bit? I'm pretty sure that I heard somewhere that in 25fps/24fps/30fps, 50fps/60fps you got 10bit 4:2:2, but unfortunately in 100/120fps you haven't. :( And that's very important for me because I love 100p and would be nice if A7 IV has that, because I'm thinking about buying this camera.

Because in A7III there is difference in quality I believe, so for best performance you won't use S&Q mode in A7 III. But from what I heard there is no more difference in A7IV. Can you confirm that? I can see that your chanell is very interesting for me, because I don' know what to buy. ;d I need one more camera for wedding season and now I have 2 Sony A7 III and I need true hybrid future proof camera and that's sound like Canon R5C. I'm doing also commercial job. But problem with R5C is that I should switch to Canon there, but expenses could be too high for me, these CF Express Cards are ridiciously expensive. Do you know what's the best resolution and frame rate that I can write on SD card? Maybe I could start with SD cards and later in the future I would buy CF cards when I need it?

Having more sharpness is not always better. If most content is viewed on iPhones etc then the extra sharpness just creates more moiré effect on the image. BTW the FX6 (and FX3) is only sharp in HD on close up shots, try a wide landscape shot and the FX6 is sadly unusable in HD. I own an FX6 and FX3 and can only use them in 4K.

I like the content you make, and watch all your videos, but this is a bit annoying. In your title, You cannot say one camera is better at 4k and then show that color shift. You can say “the 4k in this camera is sharper” in your title. But to say that the a7iv is better at 4k than the fx6 is just not true, it may be sharper, but the color shift, prior to correction is a huge factor. Straight out of camera, I rather have a more color accurate image than a sharper image, any day. The sharpness isn’t even that big of a difference. Anyway, love your channel and love the content, even if we don’t agree 😂

When you look at a photo first thing is colors, no one I know thinks about sharpness. Its funny we want to know which is the Sharper camera so we can remove as much sharpness as possible to make it look like the least sharpest camera. 🤔👍 Lol.

The fact that the FX6 has ND built in - it's a production camera. if you're a "videographer" go for it... get a mirrorless camera and bolt on ND's or be dodgy with random shutter speeds. The real agencies will stick with proper video cameras everytime.

Wow A7IV looks horrible, such a strong green cast. It’s not color accurate at all. Just look at the model’s hair, it’s not even close to how blonde color looks like in real life. It’s not suitable for any professional work where color accuracy is required without correcting it with ColorChecker. And it’s annoying especially since there’s no native support in Premiere Pro. You have to create a lut in Davincj and then export it to Premiere. I’m considering canceling my preorder (still waiting) and just going for FX6. At least I will have internal NDs that don’t mess up the color unlike most NDs on the market.

It’s 10 but Color. You can make adjustments to how ever you need. The green shift is in the Sony Venice cameras. All subjective
