Great video. Switched from Canon after 20 years to a Sony A7iv and have loved it. Much better than my Canon R6. Such an easy to use camera, especially for vintage lenses. Even the color rendering I have not noticed to be bad.

Appreciate that friend! Yep, I love Canon but from a feature standpoint and especially a business one, Sony gives you a lot more on the video side of things and definitely the accessibility to SO MANY types of lenses. Definitely a great investment! Cheers!

The R6 II is better than the A7IV and R6 by a fair margin. I researched them all last fall and got the R6 II and it's better than the A7IV. Nobody has time for that 4K crop on the Sony in 2023, and the A7IV is quite slow for photography getting only about 6 FPS in uncompressed mode. I get 12 FPS on the R6 II in mechanical and 40 FPS in electronic, even with Sigma Art lenses. And my Sigma 50 1.4, even adapted, focuses faster than the 50GM on the Sony (or even the RF50 on the Canon) for 1/3 the price (and it's just as sharp).

Sigma lenses are amazing. I kept my EF version and adapt it to my Sony. You seem to use video more than photos so I guess the R6II is better, maybe minus having to buy ONLY RF L lenses to get these to examples. I switched to sony. Love it for photos, the video is good enough and I now have third part lenses available to me. I gave up. 5 years and still not a hint of anything from Sigma and other quirks Canon has been doing made me give up on RF. EF is awesome and still use those lenses on DSLR's all the time. But as good as RF is, its over priced and overrated. @@77dris

Great video, I love that you explain little things like video profiles and the reasoning for HDMI port, etc. That is always appreciated even if you're advanced. However, the title suggests you'd give a reason for why you "hate" the Sony A7 IV, but I don't think that was in the video? I'm also just curious because I'm thinking seriously about making this as my next camera purchase. Thanks!

Appreciate the honest feedback friend! Really what it’s always boiled down to for me is that Sony feels “sterile” & “clinical”. I come from starting out with film photography & am very big on enjoying using your tools. Sony cameras in general never satisfied that for me. There are the best value feature wise for your $ hands down. But it feels like using a computer that just happens to take photographs rather than using a camera to create art. To some this matters and others not so much, total preference! Hope that helps!

@@davidjorozco That does help, thank you! And that makes sense. I also am realizing I may value the full experience of capturing the photos, rather than obsessively trying to nail every shot perfectly. Do you have any new insights, camera preferences, or changes you've made with your kit that you've found more enjoyable since releasing this video?

@@josh-dane I’ve always found tons of joy in shooting film and now seems like that’s the cool thing to do haha. It will slow you down and make you more intentional which I think is something we all need. Digital wise I’m shooting Canon & Sony right now. I picked up an R6 II and in most areas it’s as good as the A7iv except in the video stabilization and a touch less dynamic range. I just love the feel of Canon & Leica for photos. All film cameras & photography in general are super rewarding albeit sometimes finicky but that’s what makes it worth it.

The R6 Mark II is actually better than the A7IV for hybrid. It has full frame oversampled 4K60 (A7IV only has crop, which is insane in 2023), much, MUCH faster photography, sharper images (despite being a few MP less, perhaps a weaker AA filter), slightly better AF (especially for photos), slightly better dynamic range and ISO (Alex Barrera did a great comparison along with the Xt5, and sample files to download), and much better LCD and body.

I’d probably concede all of that BUT the IBIS in video still has the wobble. That to me is way more important for run and gun, one man band, hybrid situations then a couple of slightly betters in areas that are already pretty damn good. Plus only IPB in video, and then an even more compressed IPB light is no bueno. But as long as you’re creating with it that’s what really matters. Cheers!
