I own the Fujifilm X-H2s. I've been a pro photographer my whole life, 66 years. I would not trade this camera for any other camera in the world. I had a Fujifilm XT4 and Canon R7, and sold them both, after testing the 3 in open shade, sun light, and low light. Fujifilm X-H2s was the best of all in all situations. I like it so much; I bought a second one.

Hey! I have been waiting for the a7iv for a few years now, but still haven't purchased it. Now that I've waited this long, rumors about the Nikon Z6iii abound. It's funny, because I was going to get the Z6ii, but then the a7iv finally came out! I cannot see the Nikon not having better specs than the a7iv, especially after this much time has passed? So basically, I was wondering if the Z6iii is on your radar, or have you already purchased the Sony? Thanks!
@TheHybridShooter2 жыл бұрын
@@Tricklarock I can easily imagine Z6 III not performing as well as A7 IV. Nikon can only go as far as the Sony will let them by providing sensors and other technology. Nikon is pretty much just trying to stay close enough to Sony to prevent loyal users from switching, so I can't say that my expectations are particularly high.

Revisited this upload a week later to A/B both again. Second time around I was surprised that on most of the pictures I preferred the Sony colors, especially the blues. I also remembered how much I dislike Sony's in-EVF implementation of their settings and icons. The first time I tried a Canon it was like my eyes were treated to some sort of Willy Wonka secret blend :D. Nitpicking with zero impact on final output but something Fuji gets right and Sony should revisit. For my personal use-case the cost of cheaper/smaller options is also a factor. With 6 children who all also are engaged in photography, along with an A7iv, getting a used A7iii and used Tammy glass still seems like a better direction than an X-T3/4 with similar lenses. Thanks again for the useful video! I checked out the location you are in... what a beautiful place to photograph... and within driving distance of some of the most spectacular Europe has to offer!

Wow! Excellent comparison. I think this has settled it for me. The low light abilities of the Sony is too important for me to ignore in hopes to have a second stacked sensor camera. @@Shawns_snapshots I agree about the mk1 but because I had the A9, I sadly experienced some things with the camera that I did not like: 1) UHS-1 in slot 2; 2) 5 fps for mechanical; and 3) no flicker control option. I think Fujifilm simulation are a big plus. I am a predominately Sony user, who dabbled in Fujifilm as a second system in the past. Recently on curating my library of pictures and videos, I loved the images and colors that came from my now sold Fujifilm system. Considering the stack sensor and the almost complete feature set, I have just ordered the X-H2S. For the people who spend a vast amount of time zooming into every section of their pictures and videos up, the Sony is the clear choice. For me, I will be using the X-H2S as my main camera, relegating my 2 Sony A7RIII and an A7RIV to landscape or low light static situations. There is of course the really excellent Sony lenses like the 12-24 GM, 35GM, 135GM and the Tamron 35-1502-2.8 that do not have an equivalent in the Fujifilm universe. The reason for this change, is that I ran into the Sony sensor readout limitations as I gained more experience with them. I started noticing distortions in silent shutter situations and videos as well. Unfortunately with the exception of the Sony A1, the sensor readout on the newer Sony cameras including the A7 IV and the A7R V have gotten worse or remained the same. Thus making an upgrade to the latest Sony a compromise over the older models. Unfortunately the Sony A1 is quite pricey and the A9 series is not yet updated.

@@TheHybridShooter GH6 is only recommendable to someone *heavy* into anamorphic, since the 4:3 aspect is more correct for that than the 3:2 of the Fuji. Finally a thorough comparison between these 2 cameras. I have been watching reviews for both cameras as I intend to upgrade from my sony A6000 to either sony a7iv or fuji xh2s. I wanted to jump to fuji system to keep my lens options significantly cheaper (aps-c). However, I’d be much using it to film wedding, and will be sticking to 60 fps, & i dont mind the crop factor on sony, so I guess I will stick with sony. After all, it’s the autofocus reliability & the fact I can use my current aps-c lenses for most video works on the a7iv. Sony is really killing it these days. Of course when I priced out the body+lenses I’d prefer it was more like buying a car than a camera. Love your reviews. But maybe a thought or two on the price factor? Fuji will need the newest lenses to exploit the added speed or pixel density coming soon. But compared to full frame prices it still seems to be a lot cheaper to build a strong Fuji kit especially with used gear. Also It looked like you used the 16-55mm a lot for this review. Do you think it kept up speed/image quality wise? Do you think it will perform on a 40mp sensor? I want to invest in lenses with the longest future.
@tomapaunovic2 жыл бұрын
Sony kit should not be more expensive if you take equivalence into consideration, in fact it should be cheaper if you are taking third party options into consideration as well. Unfortunately there is no good 24-70 F4 option on Sony (old Zeiss is poor) but something like Tamron 28-75 F2.8 is still cheaper than Fuji 16-55. It depends on exact lenses you need, but in general lenses for Sony FF are not more expensive than Fuji APS-C equivalent.
@matt881692 жыл бұрын
@@tomapaunovic "When I priced out the body+lenses I'd prefer" is what I wrote - there are 3rd party lenses for both systems that are like $100 or even a little less but they bring their own issues (and aren't my preference even if I own some and they are great). Equivalence is only relevant if you are trying to produce an identical depth of field and field of view on both systems (that is to say, identical pictures), but frankly who is getting into full frame to buy a bunch of F4 zooms? I sure as heck wouldn't even if the FF sensor was a little better in low light. The reviewer chose to compare a full frame camera to an APS-C camera (which are the same price, I know), when Sony also also makes APS-C cameras. So, this is either a testament to how good Fuji is for keeping up, or how bad Sony is for not blowing Fuji out of the water. Therefore, I think the price factor is an important thing to add to the discussion. Any price advantage of Fuji glass (or bodies) are irrelevant if old lenses can't keep up with new bodies, and any superior performance of Sony is frankly irrelevant if the cost of getting that extra performance is multiples of an APS-C option.
@@matt88169 When talking lenses, I think it's really important to figure out what are your needs in terms of FoV and DoF and image quality and then go shopping lenses. High-quality F4 zooms on FF were always really popular, especially among landscape photographers. And it makes a lot of sense, why would you pay more and carry more weight if most of your images are F8/F11. IMHO it would be great if we had even narrower apperture lenses for such use cases. Canon is releasing some of those for RF mount, but those were mostly gimped in some other areas. If you need a DoF of FF 2.8 then that would require big lenses, but that's still your best option since APS-C 1.8 are almost nonexistant, except for Sigma 18-35 and 50-100 who are really big and have limited range.

Thank you so very much for creating this comparison video between these two cameras. I sold the full frame Canon DSLR 5D Mark III and the lens collection to get the Fuji X-H1 due to the weight, dynamic range and the feel of the Fuji language; however, soon realized that the reliability of auto focus in photo and video mode, high ISO noise, inability to focus in dark environment, file format in Light Room, battery life even with three batteries with a grip and WHAT IN THE WORLD is the Boot mode for since it can only perform the best in this mode?! I waited for four years for Fuji to update the X-H1 while wondering if I should of purchased the A7III that was released at the same price as the X-H1 even though E-Mount lenses was heavy, big and expansive (though I would get Sony special pricing as I was working in a camera store). Four years later after watching many comparison reviews especially this review, as of yesterday I had purchased the A7IV with Tamron 17-28 f/2.8 & 28-75 f/2.8 G2, shot a photo/video session for the city and wishing that I bought the A7III four years ago. Sure, it does not have the "Fuji feel" during the shoot which is very unique ;however, it also does not have the "Fuji feel" of pain when worrying about battery life, unreliable focus images, dealing with Fuji video or RAW file in Lightroom while painfully seeing noise after ISO 3200 even in average lighting. With these Tamron lenses, the setup is actually lighter in hand and still have 80% battery left after the session which Fuji would have used up one and half it's small batteries. Tried a few images at ISO 12,800 AND 40,000 in extreme dark condition where even I have no idea what the subject looks like and the image turns out very acceptable even handheld at 1/10s at 75mm. Thanks again for making video like this to help people like me to make the right decision for the equipment.

Yet antother great video from you, I appreciate all of your effort that goes into making of these videos. I'm still waiting for Lumix to announce a replacement for the G9, GH6 doesn't suits my needs and OM System OM-1 is not as fast as I would like it to be( I mainly shoot motorsport). I've bought the G9 after I saw your review on that camera, and I haven't regret a second that purchase. But at this moment I feel the need to change the camera, I would like to jump to a more profesional sports camera, such as Z9, R3 or A9ii, but the budget doesn't allow me to make the switch, and then this Fuji came to my attention. Looks like the perfect camera for my needs, also the lens doesn't cost a fortune, I might need to take this camera for a weekend and test it out.

Wonderfully well-balanced overview as always, thanks! Having only rented an A7III for 2 weeks, how adjustable are the Sony in-camera colors? On Canon, I had quite a bit of control over the Jpeg output, is Sony similar? In the picture of the Gimbal and Trees, I think it captures the difference I see and so enjoy in Fuji Colors... black is darker (contrast) and the trees (greens) look more natural or perhaps more similar to Nikon on the Fuji. Could this be changed and applied globally on a Sony? Obviously this wouldn't impact Raw output. Lastly, is the round control 4-way selector not a wheel, a-la Canon, on the Sony? I thought it was , but can't remember. I think if Fuji had kept their dial buttons I might be choosing an X-H2 when it drops, but still think between the low light performance, lens selection (used!), and customization, the Sony would suit me better (especially primarily for photography with little video use). Thanks again!
@Phoenixrider92412 жыл бұрын
Not on the A7III but on the A7IV for jpeg output, you have almost the whole Lightroom basic adjustment tab. Including but not limited to Highlights, Shadows, Clarity, Sharpness etc. I think the A7IV has a whole lot of options for any Jpeg shooter. Since I shoot RAW always, I don't get to try it out a whole lot. But there are a lot of options.

@@Phoenixrider9241 Great to know, thanks! I usually shoot Raw as well, but love the option to set up my Jpegs for my 2nd card slot. I've been spoiled with Nikon's color science, but have been impressed with the A7iv's as well... it's just the greens that need some tweaking. With 6 kids I don't have a lot of time for post, so if I can get the Jpegs 90% of the way there, it's all I need for quick printing family events etc. Thanks again!

ok so I'm trying to decide on the two cameras now and Im a little stuck and looking for advice. I had the sony a6300. I loved it, but was ready to move on and I just LOVE the colors of Fujifilm. So I bought the XT4. I've had the XT4 for about 6-7 months now and I'm pretty meh on it still. I love the image that it produces but there's a ton of other issues I have such as the camera constantly locking up, extremely slow buffering after burst still shooting and I've even had photos just not write to the card because of that. It's screwed me over a few times shooting sports because as the card becomes fuller the camera writes even slower. I was leaning Sony a7iv but that 40fps in the fujifilm is so tempting. the 6k would be nice but honestly I have 2 cinema cameras dedicated for video so I'm really looking for a strong hybrid camera with stronger photo ability. is there a camera similar to the a7iv but with a higher fps? or do you think the 10fps will suffice? the autofocus was noticeably sharper too.

Judging by the great accuracy of face tracking in video, I don't think that the lack of confidence is the issue. It will track subjects automatically like any other wide-are AF setting, you just can't select specific subject.

I’m frustrated with the amount of shots I keep missing while my Sony buddy gets a much better keeper rate. Should I sell all and go to a7iv with equiv focal lengths for both landscape/wildlife? Often focusing at 5 meters when the camera should be at infinity from F5 and up. i dont trust my x100v autofocus at all..

That's a rather complete test comparison! Thanks for that. I do have the impression that you pushed the Fuji a little more than the Sony though. In many pics, especially at the beginning of the video, the quality seem to be rather poor on the Fuji while close to perfect on the Sony (for example the Freewell filter box at 1:51) which seems way better on the Sony and far from professional grade on the XH2S As a Fuji User, on an XT3, most of my pics are great even when handheld. Given that we buy a camera to vet great pictures quality and not blurry ones, I am tempted to say that the Sony is better, while I am pretty sure that the difference is not that huge. If it is, then Fuji is in a serious danger. Regarding depth of field, it's clear that Sony is better, FF is helping a lot here. I am sorry, I might be a little too critical here, but it feels that you have your favorite here. Nothing wrong with that though, we all have our preferences :)
@TheHybridShooter2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feedback, but I don't understand any of it. How is it possible to push Fuji a little more, especially in side-by-side shots? As you can see in the file name, I have even used enhance function in Lightroom on Fuji shot to minimize any possible processing IQ losses. Visible difference at 300% magnification doesn't mean that the IQ on Fuji is not good enough. I am no offense, but I don't think that am the one who has a favorite here.

I moved from full frame to Fujifilm about three years ago and I don't really buy into the "full frame look" concept. The images are barey distinguishable. Great review by the way - you always put a lot of work into your videos and you are unbiased too. I really want to get the X-H2S but I'm struggling to justify the cost right now. If I get one or two good photo/video jobs in the near future I'm surely going to invest the money in an X-H2S.
@TheHybridShooter2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I have been using both for 5 years and I do buy into the "full frame look" concept.
@-grey2 жыл бұрын
After shooting fujifilm for about 5 years, I can say that their colour aesthetic isn't as neutral as it appears in the few comparisons. There is a lot of tonal differences which I think they do to mitigate highlight clipping, such as pulling down midtones and highlights. This gives an over all muddier aesthetic than any other brands when combined with their strong shadows. It's only a problem in their simulations though. Also, they generally push for red or magentas in skin hues outside of Astia, and Velvia. So just something to be aware of if you are looking for realistic colour accuracy.
@TheHybridShooter2 жыл бұрын
I don't agree with that. Fuji colors have always been very neutral in my experience. Chart testing also confirms that they are some of the most accurate on the market. Film simulations are obviously not meant to be neutral, so I don't see a reason to criticize that.
@-grey2 жыл бұрын
@@TheHybridShooter I'm talking about the simulations specifically. Which is often the selling point for people. It's not a criticism. I use Fujifilm. It's just a note for people's expectations. I couldn't in good faith recommend the simulations for colour accuracy. Shooting raw is fine though, if you use the Adobe profiles over the simulations.
@TheHybridShooter2 жыл бұрын
I don't think that anybody expects neutral colors from simulations, the whole point of the simulations is that they are not color neutral, so I don't think that explaining that is necessary.
@-grey2 жыл бұрын
@@TheHybridShooter Objectively, there will be newcomers who will value that information. Especially those looking to do colour accurate work like product photography, flowers, or portraits, as fujifilm is a very accessible, entry level, high quality brand. I've heard people refer to Provia as neutral. Pro Neg high and standard as neutral also. It's quite misleading, since there is no way to get a true to life accurate image from the camera if you are a beginner, without stripping the colour profile off a raw in software. Each profile has its own quirks and aesthetic that shifts away from a clean natural look. This is worth noting for functional usability purposes, and almost never is. You need to be a little more experienced and knowledgeable, if you ever don't want the fuji aesthetic. They don't have a "turn off simulation" mode. This is pertinent since Fujifilm colours and tonal gradients are very stylised compared to other brands. So it's not fair to represent them as so similar. I mean no offense. I'm just leaving a cautionary qualifier for those it could matter for, from experience.
@TheHybridShooter2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I should have added that it doesn't apply to Provia (Provia basically is "film simulation OFF" Fuji also calls it standard). Provia has always been very accurate and neutral in my experience, so I don't agree with that. Other film simulations are indeed inaccurate, which is what they are supposed to be.

Thanks for another great review! I kind of like were Fuji has located the back button AF, the Sony is too far to the left for me. when it comes to noise though that’s disappointing Fuji hasn’t been able to improve on that from the XT4. @neilr7935 Жыл бұрын
I'd just like to point out a couple things: 1. Lightroom is absolutely horrible for processing Fuji RAW files. The results are very different in Capture One. 2. You can shoot a full stop wider aperture on the Fuji crop sensor and get roughly the same depth of field as the full frame Sony camera. This allows you to get similar high ISO performance for any shots where you would normally stop down a bit on full frame.
@TheHybridShooter Жыл бұрын
1. Not anymore, especially with the new 40 MP sensor, I have also used enhanced function when showing 100% magnification. 2. That is an ISO test, I am not interesting in compensating DoF in that kind of test. The purpose of the FF is not to match DoF of crop sensor cameras.
