Full frame always FTW (esp. when running-and-gunning into low light, and option to isolate focus)! But I use both in multicam shoots, they blend well, and the FX30 crop sensor adds focal length versatility to my full-frame lens kits. Yet, Super35mm mode in the a7 IV leverages slack in the higher-density full-frame sensor to basically emulate the FX30's crop equally. Never got overheating on my a7 IV either, with two-hour indoor continuous UHD shoots.

Fantastic video ! My biggest concern is the overheating, FX30 sounds great, it's good to know that your camera isn't going to fail mid a job, but that sweet fullframe low light and photo capabilities on the a7iv tho! aaahh

A7iv by no mean is an “entry” Sony full frame camera. The a7c should have that title.

You're probably right. Sony still says the a7II for that matter so maybe an overstatement on my part

It makes more sense to keep the iv since it’s a hybrid and you can punch it into apsc mode. Plus low light iv is better then 30. Only if you do long recording then i would pick the 30 because of heat issues on the iv

Thanks for the video - very good explanation 👍 Yesterday I had an issue with A7IV overheating after 25minutes recording in a very hot music club. I will rent FX30 next time 😅

Sony cameras have a high heat setting that isn’t enabled by default. If you rented it, it probably wasn’t set to allow the camera to operate at a higher temperature

The FX30 is a different type of Sony camera, I feel. You have to be a little more deliberate, which is a good thing. It's a great working platform to pursue you visual identity. You can be working on advanced pro workflows on a budget. You will learn lighting, exposure, and so many things. It reminds me of the OG A7s.

The a7IV is a great hybrid camera, obviously. If you prioritize video to any substantial degree, it's just not my favorite due to the slow sensor readout.

The FX30 is so much better for ENG work it’s not even close. Sound handle. People underestimate the importance of sound. The XLR inputs will give better quality than a 3.5mm input and of course work with professional microphones. The tally lights are invaluable when talking to the camera or when interviewing someone.

@@jameiealehandro Electronic news gathering. It's a niche area - for most videographers, an in body 3.5 jack is more important. I do some ENG work myself and honestly I'd give up the XLR on my FX6 for a native in body 3.5. It's a bloody pain to adapt XLRs to it. I'm sure the FX30 has both though.
