@@Webrisernl Better than non C-Log3 footage on the R6ii? Probably. I don't have any experience with Canon mirrorless cameras, but I'd imagine the dynamic range in non log profiles is more limited and highlights and shadows could get pretty crunchy. But if you're going for a really high contrast look (crushed shadows especially), it could work. You should just shoot some test clips. Doesn't have to be anything fancy. Just try some different lighting and exposure scenarios in the different profiles and see how they look with the 2383 LUT

How about when using flash with the xh2s. Since it is a stacked sensor. Is there a difference of using mechanical vs electronic shutter?

Very interesting! I have the XT5, XH2S, and X100F and this hasn't really ever bothered me until I started using my Fuji's for more professional projects. I use a SONY A7III for most things and love the results but I've been really disliking my Fuji raw files recently. Almost considered switching to SONY full time but I guess I have more tests to do. I had been using Capture One and more recently some of the more 'Mac native' alternatives until a recent trip when I decided to load up Lightroom Classic again (given I was already paying for Photoshop it's basically free). I was amazed at how well Lightroom handled my Fujifilm RAW files using the AI Enhance Details and Denoise features compared to what had originally driven me to Capture One. I don't see any reason to continue to pay for Capture One when I can get great output from Lightroom, and despite what some say in my experience the alternatives don't handle Fujifilm RAW's as well as Capture One and now Lightroom do.

Im considering buying this light to highlight some trophies for my gym. The budget is not an issue, but the lights would be on and plugged in and on for 4 hours a day (at night time). Would you recommend for or against that? I have no idea if these types of lights are only built for 1-2 hours at a time then need to cool down.
@PhillipRPeck
@PhillipRPeck 10 күн бұрын
I think it depends how bright you have it set. I'd guess that if you have it at 50% or lower, you could have it on almost indefinitely, but, obviously the brighter it gets, the hotter and more energy it requires. I really don't know about the longevity, I've used mine as a room light and had it on for hours at a time and so far so good. I wonder if you should just look at lighting products that are designed to be used for the intended purpose, like Govee or similar brand

This is extremely annoying from Sony, a classic case of assuming you know better than your customer how they should use the gear. I use 1080p a lot, for good reasons. The fact Sony puts this garbage in expensive cameras is infuriating. People are going to want good 1080 for years to come! Fix it.
@PhillipRPeck
@PhillipRPeck 10 күн бұрын
It's not a Sony issue, it's just an issue of a high megapixel sensor for video. It happens across all brands. There isn't enough processing power and heat dissipation for the camera to down sample all that resolution into 1080p. It throws away or combines pixels because it's less processor intensive

X-H2S has a 14bit readout in 6.2K and 4K, great dynamic range and best in class rolling shutter. The X-M5 uses the same sensor of other cameras, like the X-S20, so we have a 12bit (and much slower) readout, less dynamic range (12.1 vs 13.6 at SRN=1). Not exactly the same. Obviously we need a more contrasty scene for evaluating DR and more movement for rolling shutter. But I think even in your tests, with low contrast scenes, some differences are noticeable. But obviously all of this depends on the eye of the beholder too. Am i saying that X-M5 is bad? Not at all. It’s a small gem of a camera, for the price and in its category. But the X-H2s is in another league, a sort of (relatively) poor man Alexa.

I am non professional audio person nor do I know anything regarding the Shure MV7 or the Blue Yeti. Every Christmas eve, through one (1) if my laptops, I play a youtube version of the sounds of a wind storm together with the sounds of Santa Reindeer bells ringing in unison. I then call my grandkids and talk to them imitating Santa Claus all mixed in together. I am looking to purchase a mic to use in conjunction with my cell phone or land line phone to call the kids that might give them a better sound of my voice while picking up the other 2 laptops playing the background noise. Just wondering which mic would be the best to purchase to assist me with my situation. Thanks

Great video! I bought this combo a year and a half ago and I want to love it, but I'm on the verge of picking up an OM-1 II (would love a Z8 but it's hard to justify the price and I like having a lightweight kit). I can deal with the autofocus for birds that are stationary or moving around in trees, but the camera's autofocus just can't handle fast action - birds in flight, herons fishing, my dog running around the backyard, etc. it just can't keep up. Shooting 40fps or 30fps and having precapture sounds awesome, but what's the point if the autofocus can't keep up? Sure, I still get some good photos in these scenarios, but I'm usually settling for any in-focus photos I get instead of being able to choose the ones I want. And I never get a full sequence of shots where the subject is tracked accurately throughout with most of them being in focus.

It's pretty similar, but, I felt that the cloud lifter was a little more hallow sounding than the CM-1 - before you said that, I noticed it, and thought maybe I liked the CM-1 better (especially since at this point in time, it is less than $19 new on Sweetwater haha). I wanted to get a cloudlifter, but if I can be SUPER budget and get it for $130 less, I think they have me sold. But, maybe I will keep listening to these kinds of demos before making the purchase - I just got my UA SD-1 in today and I realized I need to crank my preamp gain pretty hard from the position I had it for my AKG c214, which is set at less than half of the knob lol. Anyway, awesome video and super helpful in making me feel confident in the CM-1. God Bless you, man!

I just received mine and ran through a test of each port. I noticed that the top HDMI port (from horizontal orientation) with only one monitor connected had a spotty connection. All the other ports are fine. Do you know if with only one monitor on HDMI whether we should use the lower HDMI or is it possible that one of my HDMI ports is not working correctly? I realize it's an odd question - I may have to dig up my Ninja V to use as a second HDMI screen to answer my own question. Also - in my tests I found that the USB-C 40Gbps ports (marked as 6K front and back and presumably actually TB4 ports but perhaps not labeled as so for licensing reasons) are slightly slower than the ones on my MacBook Pro M1 Max - Not a huge amount but I have a NVMe drive in a TB4 enclosure that clocks in at read/write of over 3100 MB/s on the TB4 port on my MacBook but only 2800 or so on the Fusion Max. Not a huge issue but I wonder if that's an indication of anything? Your thoughts on both of these issues are welcome and appreciated. Cheers.
@PhillipRPeck
@PhillipRPeck 18 күн бұрын
Both HDMIs work fine on mine. I only have the one monitor to plug in and it works the same in both. I don't have any Thunderbolt drives or NVMe enclosures to test, so I'm just testing with a SanDisk Extreme Pro 1TB SSD, and it is a bit slower on the Dock than the ports on the MacBook, and there also seems to be a bit of variability. The front 6K port is a bit faster than the rear 6K port, especially in read speeds
@TheRealBarkinMadd
@TheRealBarkinMadd 18 күн бұрын
Add - ok - dug out my Ninja V and the top HDMI port works fine. I have one 4K 60Hz Dell display plus the Ninja V (1080p) connected to the dock via HDMI (using the Ninja just to test the port works). Certainly not pushing it, lol. For now the biggest thing is the extra 40Gbps ports for multiple NvMEs in TB4 enclosures and that seems to be working well. I haven't pushed things yet but Blackmagic Design disk speed testing reports these drives at 2800MB/s which is pretty close to what I was getting directly connected to my laptop's TB4 ports (slight slow down for my fastest TB4 enclosure as reported). Also, I'm continuing to power my MacBook via the MagSafe even though in theory it could power from the Fusion Max (not quite, though - 96 watts but MagSafe is 140 watts - I don't want instabilities). Seems like everything is working out of the box. Let's see if it continues to work, lol. Btw - I love that I can run a line out to my monitor speakers and still have a free port on the front if I want to add a headset/microphone combo - an underrated feature. A pricy dock but if the quality lasts, it's an amazing accessory to my MacBook.

Some blackout and fps/burst info; I'm guessing its the same as all the Fuji cameras but on the CL burst rates (5, 3fps etc), we get blackouts all the time, but once we go to CH burst rates we get blackout once on the initial frame (as you point out) and then never again (during the burst). It looks like CH for the XM5 considers 8fps enough to qualify, however 8fps is considered CL on the XH2S and thus we get blackouts constantly on 8fps on XH2S but not on the XM5, we need to go to 10fps minimum on XH2S to get just that first initial blackout and then none for the subsequent frames. The fps thing is basically a lie, because the main throttle is not even SD cards or file size, its the AF and metering (especially subject detection metering). Try your fps in manual focus mode and you will see what 8+fps really looks like when the camera is not having to meter constantly or acquire focus (Priority or Release). 40fps on the XH2S is really only possible to achieve manual focus mode, otherwise its like half that or even less (depending on scene/subject difficulty). So again, with Fuji it can look like a bragging point to having these high burst rates but once using AF and detection metering you're nowhere near getting that. I think some users have tested and its about 6fps regardless of mode... lol

Big lenses feel crazy big, and not a lot of options for smaller ois lenses (Good gimbal camera?). Kit lens actually isn’t bad in the grand scheme of things.
