Sony A7R4 & 200-600mm G lens & 400mm GM lens

I have been invited to the Sony Pro Conference near Cologne in Germany.
The possibility to shoot the new Sony Alpha A7RIV was really great.
I thought it would be interesting to see how the Sony 200-600 G lens will do on the new high megapixel body.

Do you have more images with the 200-600 at 600mm perhaps? In the upload there is only one and its in the shadows. As a Wildlife Photographer thats the setting thats most interesting to me. It would be really helpful to asess the Sharpnes of the lens at 600 with an aditional photo, even its not a "pretty" photo.

Good video, particulary relevant to me - so thank you very much. I may replace my A7III with an A7RIV and as I own a 200 - 600mm I found your comments very useful. Though I currently use my 200 - 600mm exclusively on my A9, I would use it on the A7RIV due to the greater detail when cropping, not forgetting the 26MP available in APS-C mode. I will await the announcement of the A9II before making my final decision, but this video has been insightful.

Thank you very much for your positive feedback :-) The crop is also what attracts me...no TC needed anymore and still decent resolution. I bet the A9 II will be a big thing... ;-)

Thanks for all these uploads Mike. I am on the fence and of course I trust what the ambasadors reports in. Just need to experience it myself and that will be soon. I noticed the file size during download of the RAW files.. huh man, big stuff :) But as with the 7R3 I convert either to DNG while importing to LR og simply down sizing the fies after culling. The good thing by having such huge files is that all your misses will just be deleted and not take a life long sleep on your disks :)

Thank you Gerner. Of course I would encourage everybody to test the camera and lenses themself. Nothing beats the own experience. But I hope to share some help with my findings :-) - And yes...the files are big, but converted to DNG makes it a lot better. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video. I don't shoot much sport, i have the a7iii currently. Do you recommend upgrading to the a7riv? You look very pleased with it.

Thanks for watching! Well...yes I am very pleased with the A7R4. But the A7III is also a great camera. If you think of switching, there are really some advantages in handling, viewfinder, ergonomics, AF and image quality, but you also pay a price like e.g. very big files. So you have to think about what you need and want. Both cameras are great!

Did you try shooting in crop mode using the 200-600? That’s what I’m interested in the a7r4.

No, I did not. But in the end the results will be the same as if you crop in Lightroom I guess. I can not see a difference if cropping in the camera with the A7R3 or afterwards in Lightroom. AF coverage should be like 100% in crop mode...guessing here.

At 10fps, the blackouts are driving me crazy. The performance here is super bad, even my Sony A6400 is performing here better. I don't get it why you did not mention this. For Widlife this is actually a No-Go - for me this camera is for this purpose not useable (due to mentioned blackouts).

Sorry to hear this, but I did not notice a worse blackout than with the A7R3. I had the impression it is even better. Not A9 level, but very good. In what mode do you have the EVF? Did you check all settings?

Michael Schaake Hi, I think I did but will recheck again today. I know I am spoiled by my Sony A9 and did not expect the same performance. But what I had was not good. So let’s see later :)

@@Stefan1968ful Strange...and yes...used to the A9 it is hard to shoot anything else ;-) I talked to some sport photographers when trying it out and nobody had an issue. So I hope it is in the settings...

Schade, hätte gedacht das ein Deutscher das Video in deutsch macht. Die ganzen englischen Video hängen mir zum Hals raus. Magst Du Deine Muttersprache nicht oder was ist der Grund? Bin sehr verärgert.

Das ist natürlich schade, das Du verärgert bist. Es hat viele Gründe warum die Videos nun in englischer Sprache sind, aber eine Abneigung gegenüber meiner Muttersprache gehört sicherlich nicht dazu. Falls Du Fragen hast beantworte ich sie Dir aber gerne.

@@mrmschaa , Danke für Deine Antwort. Du mußt verstehen, daß nicht jeder englisch kann, schon garnicht technisches Englisch. Wenn nun ein Deutscher sein Video auch in Englisch kommentiert ist das mehr als schade. Denn Videos in englisch gibt es genug, in Deutsch wenig bis garkeine. Somit habe ich Dein Video auch nicht zu Ende geschaut.
