Pros have been printing 12MP photos for years. The 24MP Nikon D3X was considered a ‘high’ megapixel camera just 10 years ago. Not much has changed in the print media landscape since then other than the fact that we print less pictures nowadays in the age of social media.

Excellent Danny, it is still very necessary to clarify these points. As your friend mentioned, large prints are not usually viewed from 8 inches away. There are those who maintain that when the 8MPX standard was reached, sufficient resolution was already created for most photographic subjects to obtain good quality paper prints.Therefore, I think that in the real world the only advantage of higher resolution sensors is the cropping power they offer and in photos of wildlife or birds, it is undoubtedly an advantage in the framing possibilities compared to a lower resolution camera. In addition to being better in low light situations, smaller files are easier to edit and archive.

Hello Danny...I just found your post on the A7SIII group. I tried the test myself and it was very hard to tell which one was which...Thank you for this video. It answered all the questions I had about taking pics with the A7SIII. By the way I loved your editing! 👍😀

Hey! Thank you very much. It was a massive worry before I bought the camera and it seems to be a worry for others so thought I would try and reassure others. When you look in to the science, it's not that bad! Obviously more pixels is better as it has more detail, but doesn't mean you can't get a good quality print. And thank you! Really appreciate your time watching. Have a great day!

Just came from the EDCB&T group. I’m not into photography anymore but I really enjoyed your video. I might get another camera and start shooting again.

Hey Tim!! I only got in to photography around 4 years ago, best move I ever made! Started as just taking photos of my cat and somehow became a full time career. Give it a go! Easy way to make memories. Thanks for watching

Actually what I was more curious about than resolution, was if the A7Siii had smoother color transitions. Similar to the idea of the 'medium format look' does a low res full frame senor have better color roll off because of the larger micron size.

Great video. I have a Sony A7C2 and am considering using crop mode to give my lenses more versatility. I don't really edit / crop, and only view my photos on a phone, tablet or 4K TV (which is a smaller resolution that the 14.6mp pixel count of the camera in crop mode). I don't print, and if I ever wanted to, they would only be A4 at most. Good stuff!

When retouching high megapixels is way easier to work with.

It absolutely can be, Justin! More pixels, more data to work with. Thanks for watching

This was my only limitation with the Sony A7SIII, which made me consider the Canon R5 over swapping to Sony, then I accidentally bumped into Super Resolution on Photoshop And I made a decision to swap
@DannyBligh2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it’s definitely a limitation to some extent. I personally would be incredibly happy if it had 24mp but 🤷🏻♂️ lightroom also now had the enhance feature, just got to be careful with it though, used it yesterday and it actually messed up the image. It was the material a shirt was made from and the pattern it produced… ended up in photoshop to correct it 😂

thanks for sharing. How does its iso perform when it takes photos compare to video?
@DannyBligh5 ай бұрын
Fairly well! I’m comfortable taking photos up to 6400, anything above that requires more NR (obviously). But at that point, find better light (in most cases) 🤷🏻♂️

Another factor that will play a part in this is cropping. The A7S3 will fall short once you start to crop and it will get soft vs the 24mp depending on the amount of cropping you do.

Absolutely, mate! With the A7Siii you certainly have to be sure what you're doing in terms of composition when taking a photo. There's obviously ways around it with AI but best to get it right in camera! Thanks for watching
