Avata 2 doesn’t have D Log, but D Log M. D Log M in the photograph and videographer community is often called just a fancy name of D-Cinelike. Therefore it’s not close to D Log, but rather a tiny small upgrade from D-Cinelike being lightly flatter. However you barely see the difference between D log m and d cinelike. You can search up comparisons if you want. DJI kind of lied to us not telling the difference between d log m and d log.

Great video. I have a Sony A7C2 and am considering using crop mode to give my lenses more versatility. I don't really edit / crop, and only view my photos on a phone, tablet or 4K TV (which is a smaller resolution that the 14.6mp pixel count of the camera in crop mode). I don't print, and if I ever wanted to, they would only be A4 at most. Good stuff!

how about comparing the A7IV to the A7R IV It costs between 500-900 euros more than the A7IV Im very much debating between those Iam in very lowlight situations aswell as typical Street Photography settings. And i feel i dont film as much as i would photograph.

I'm currently doing wedding, general events, family portrait photography and architectural recreationally. I've been using a Nikon DSLR, my most recent one is the D7500 and I am looking to switch to mirrorless and upgrade. the DSLR has been limiting especially in low lighting situations and I have been looking at both the sony alpha 7rV and 7iv, but cannot decide the better camera to purchase for my use. For my purposes should I go with the 7iv or the 7rv? can I still crop down if I need to for the 7iv and which one is better for low lighting situations?

The stairs was such a good way to explain it! I thought A was 8 bit, but changed my mind with the photo of the sign. I think the difference is so small most people wojldn't notice the difference, and I'm not sure the difference is worth another £1000 to upgrade to the a7iv.

I have the 24mm and I'm very disappointed, it has a serious focusing problem, to havve infinity in focus, more like 10m+, I need to put on 5m. I couldn't find anyone talking about this issue and no KZbinr encountered this apparently.

Some manufacturers deliberately put in OTHER differences than just 1.8 vs 1.4 like coatings, optical design and precision. They are helping you with more reasons to buy their 1.4 lenses even if you are shooting at F8. Moral? I don't think so! Ignore them? You are not serious!

Most people don't even look at videos on a decent TV, much less a color calibrated one. They look at it on their phone. As a photographer, I may have a good color calibrated screen but experience has taught me that 99.9% of the people that will be looking at my photos won't. So in the end, how much does it really matter. These days, I just try the get the brightness levels high enough to be screen clearly and I no longer worry about the color because no one cares or can tell this difference anyway. Equipment manufacturers have to come up with new specs every year to convince people to buy new shit :)

If you can afford the camera, the storage and the computer required to edit this monster images, there is really no competition. A7Rv is the master of all. I cant. Currently running an A7Rii, and at just 42.2 Mpxl it already eats up my storage like crazy and my computer struggles. Saving up now to upgrade to the A7iv. I will miss the 42.2 mpxls, but I really need/want the better AF (especially the bird AF) of the A7iv and better video 10-bit S-cinetone. But the A7RV is the ultimate dream tbh.

Highlights blow out a little more with 8-bit.

Great camera but theres also a tonne of issues to work around - same as every other camera for wildlife photography. I prefer M43 as you basically only compromise low light and depth of field in certain scenarios. Everything else is banging

I have been investigating differences between 8bit and 10bit in video for a long time, and it's only when you do some very very extreme color grading that you can even tell the difference between thoes two. I don't think there is a single situation where 12-bit wouldn't be enough, I would even go as far as there is actually no point in even going from 10-bit to 12-bit. You would have to do some ridiculous laboratory level expansion of the color waveform to ever be able to detect artifacts in 10bit color depth. I was more wondering whether there is some sharpness problems with compressed raw, as I am shooting birds and want the most insane sharpness I can get, especially if the birds are quite far away,.

Hey Danny, great vid. Did you know that if you switch to NTSC mode it will allow you to shoot in HAVC HS with the equivalent of 25p which is 23.98 in NTSC. Any idea why this is? And any potential downsides(flickering aside)

Hi Danny thank you so much for this video. It was super helpful. I use the phantom LUTS and edit in FCPX. Would I only apply the Phantom lut and then achieve the look? Or use the Sony conversion AND the Phantom lut?

Whats best for videography, cinematography

Most of my photos are at night or inside historical buildings. I am getting the 35mm 1.4 GM. I had the Sigma 35mm 1.2 Art. but, it was too big and bulky, the autofocus was bad, and dust got inside the lens.

The Sony factory settings have Picture Profile 8 set up the same way that you set your Picture Profile 7.

This is proof that the a7rv is a great photo/video camera 😅

@dannybligh I'm concerned with the buckles. The two prongs are EXTREMELY thin! Especially when spending $180. How have the buckles held up?

I have the 1/8 one. If I need to make an image softer I can reduce the clarity on LR. and the lights will already be bloomed. Whereas I can't do the reverse with the 1/4 which is why I went with the subtle.
