I've just seen a new videos from 9/11, taken with this camera and the quality is absolutely superb, so much detail and the guy was several km away from them.

That’s weird this camera came out in 2003 so it could have been the vx2000? 🤔

@keenmate9719 I’m no expert haha but yeah it was probably filmed on the vx2000 which looks pretty much identical the only difference between the 2000 and 2100 is the 2100 does better in low light. Other than that they are identical

So awesome you did a review on this guy. Just got my 2100 not too long ago and been using it exclusively for concert videos/ recaps. Its a low light king, recommend this highly to anyone that wants to shoot shows, I am never getting rid of this guy! Took a bit of a hit due to having to repair the tape deck, but I am planning to keep it so it was indeed worth the investment. What mics do you recommend for this, need something good so it doesn't peak so much in the environment I shoot in. I have adjusted the audio levels but still want something a tad better!

You can always invest in a Sony mrc1 if you are worried about tapes. And as for mics I am honestly so inexperienced with them haha you might want to research some that are good for concerts

I got the Japanese model due to its condition and it's been trouble free ever since. I only got two issues of it which would be me not understanding Japanese and having to translate the menu to English. The other issue is the internal battery does not hold a charge, so every time i remove the external battery the setting in the camera resets itself; which includes time and date.

I'm about to fall hard into picking up old cameras from my high school days! Going to check out a PD170 here locally in a little bit. If it's all good I'm going to buy it! I know I'll still want a VX2100 though. There's one supposedly new in box on Ebay that is kind of calling my name... VX2100 my first real camera in 2016, but was stolen after about two years. Replaced it with a DVX100B, which was awesome for skateboarding and short films, and I am now 15 years later regretting selling that one. Selling the DVX got me to upgrade from SD to HDV, which was a big deal at the time, with the Canon HV40! That HV40 was really good for the year or two I used it making shorts before the Canon T2i hit the scene! Then after that I had the 60D as my "filmmaking camera" and an XF100 for many as my do it all camcorder. There's also a GL1 for sale locally, which I'm thinking of checking out too - when I think about it, it was one day in 8th grad I think that I got to film one day with a guy's GL1 that got me into the film game in the first place. Thinking the DV camcorders would be stupid fun to pull out while I'm doing doc stuff and grab shots with.
