Sony E 16-55mm F2.8 G - The Sharpness Master

I bought this lens with my Sony FX30. I primarily shoot movies and travel a lot and needed a zoom lens that was compact but good quality with a wide aperture.

Hey Luca, I just got the Sony ZV-E1 and was looking for a full frame versatile zoom lens that I could use when travelling. I love using the dynamic active stabilisation feature this camera has but it's a 30% crop so most lenses I've looking at don't have the ideal focal distance. The 16 mm of the 16-35 f4 would be good even after the cropping for recording myself when walking, and it's light and compact, parfocal and does the zoom inside so great for gimbal, but it feels like it won't zoom too much so part of the fun when travelling would be missing. Then I looked at the 20-70, which is almost ideal (not parfocal) but the 20 mm after cropping is not great for self recording. Then I saw this 16-55 apsc lens, and since I after the dynamic active stabilisation you don't get the vignetting anymore, wouldn't be a great idea to pair it with my Sony zve 1? I guess I would lose on photos, since it's a 12 megapixel sensor with a cropped lens but still, being able to reach 82mm or so in full frame would be great. What do you think? Is it a good idea? I didn't see anyone talking about this pair so maybe I'm missing something here. Please help! Thank you!

I'm not a big fan of this choice. Even if I get why you would do it, I don't think it's a great one. As you mentioned you lose a lot in photos, and even in video you don't always crop in... Unfortunately my choice would be the 16-35 power zoom, which is a great video lens, and another longer lens to go with it

Ottimo video non vedo l'ora di provarla. L'ho trovata ad un prezzo eccezionale circa 650 euro e la porterò a casa presto. Ero incerto se prendere questa oppure tamron 28-70 2.8 o la Sigma 18-50. Credo di avere fatto la scelta giusta. Interessante la tua opinione sul focus ring... Odio quando sono troppo scattosi

Very good videos! Informative and not dull. I purchased an A6000 in 2016 and just upgraded to the A6700. I'm shopping for a few new lenses and am disappointed in the prices of a good lens. The cost for a good camera and lens is the same or more than a new iPhone!

Thanks! You are right with the price, but as for phones... Good photography gear is expensive and is getting more and more expensive as we go. The market is dictating this by requiring perfect lenses and cameras even for beginners

Call me crazy; but I think I’d get an A7RV to use these Sony apsc lenses. Sure I’d get some FF lenses as well but I love small zooms.

I wouldn't call you crazy at all. At the end you would get a similar megapixel count with the APSC crop, with a better body. The thing is you'd pay the body 3 times as much compared to the a6700

Awesome video as always!! It would be definitely super interesting to see how the Sony compares to the Fuji X 16-55. An other reviewer wrote that the Sony’s 16mm is more a 17mm due to sofware correction and its more compact size.

The Sony is better due to size and weight. The Fuji 16-55 is also a bit old, almost 10 years by now and is long due for an update. It's only marginally sharper than the Sony 24-105 f/4 OSS. Fuji needs a new 16-55mm f/2.8 OIS that's under 600g. Look up the MTF charts for both lenses on Optical Limits. Sony pulls ahead by a bit.

What do you think of comparing this against an A7Cii with the 24-50mm 2.8 which is even smaller/lighter than 16-55mm on crop?

You talk whole bid ablit a6700 stabilisation and this lens and dont showing samples of stabilization?? Did I miss something? I look for this specofic thing. A6700 + 16-55 with standard and actove atabilization ...

All the footage you see that hasn't me in the frame is hand held, even when I zoom in. I didn't post the difference between the active and normal stabilization.

Will this be good to pair with my Sony A6000 to take pictures of my art work to make prints? I paint 12 x 12’s up to 80X80. Mostly paint and some mixed media.

I would say it's going to work for sure. However, a good prime lens with macro capabilities would probably work better if it's only for this. If on the other hand you plan on using it for general purpose AND for your artwork, then yes, it should be a good choice
