I am a still photographer and I think that for still shooting you do not get any better 24mm than the Sony at the moment, it is second to none ! I use it on Sony A7RIV with 61 megapixels and it gives great pictures, the Sony 24mm 1.4 GM are great in a set with Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm 1.8 and Sony 135mm 1,8 GM, with these 3 lenses you do not need any more lenses !

Sony released a 12-24 GM Lens recently. I’ve had plans to buy the 24mm 1.4 but now I’m thinking maybe to go with the 12-24 especially because the zoom lens does not actually extend out when zooming. It does it all internally so it would work great on a gimbal

Not necessarily. Internal zooming shifts weight as well.

Very good review mate. I'm actually a canon 750d then later to M6 mark 1 user and now came to my senses planning to switch to sony because of the unlimited recording and clean HDMI which I'm planning to use to continue my channel vids. The lowlight capabilities of the sigma are terrific! It would be also good if you could compare the A6600/A6400 with Sigma 16mm f1.4 versus A73 with Sony 24mm f1.4 GM with both cameras at F1.4 setting and another 2.0 setting with a73 and no picture profile on both. Let's try how 3 samples would compare. I think it would be a very good comparison since some are also considering a full-frame path with the rumored Sony A5/A6 coming mid-September. But if it will not come then the A6600 now on sale at $1088 USD with one extra NPZ100 battery, SD Card, Tripod, and other accessories are hard to beat here in the gulf. My budget is around $1500 to a maximum of 2700 USD on a camera+lens system. I think I'm leaning towards the APS-C unless the new A5 comes at presumably $1000-1400 USD, then I'm considering it paired with Sony 24mm f1.4 GM which I can get here @ $2700 USD Combo if they sell the body for $1400 and the Sony 24mm f.14 GM lens here in the gulf is at $1300 USD. I hope you would compare those that I have mentioned in the next video so APS-C upgraders will have an idea if it is worth it to upgrade into full-frame with that combo, especially for an outdoor lowlight comparison. I also go on the mountains for 3-4 days and that lowlight capabilities are possibly on my checklist to capture beautiful images at low light. Cheers mate!

Great lens and review! A camera gear question. I know the choice depends on the needs but my needs will shape up over a period of time so I need general guidance :) between XT4 and GH5/G9. Purpose is primarily video. I am looking at a zoom lens (prime may be much later). So 16-80, 55-200 for Fuji. 12-60, 50-200 for Panasonic. What would your choice be, pro/con. I don’t want to use tripod. Would really appreciate if you can share some pointers from your personal use and knowledge. Thanks.

Difficult to say, those are quite different lenses. I probably prefer 16-80 over 12-60, but 50-200 is much better and much more expensive than Fuji 55-200 zoom. Regarding the cameras, I prefer X-T4 over G9 and GH5.

i want this lens but its too expensive. Is it sharp enough for a A7RIV? BTW can you review the new 20 1.8? According to what i read already, its just as sharp or even sharper then this GM lens....

I haven't tested it with high-res sensor, but it is one of the lenses designed for 61MP sensor.

AF will be limited by the camera in this case. 24mm GM is certainly a good long-term investment.

The Hybrid Shooter Thank You, I watched that video when it first was uploaded and I just watched it again. I didn’t hear you mention anything about clear image zoom. You did mention shooting in APSC/Super 35 mode. To my understanding of what I’ve researched they are 2 different things. I may be wrong here; please feel free to correct me if that is the case.

Yes, it is basically the same thing. For stills it is just cropping, so basically useless. For video it keeps 4K resolution, but with with ugly processing and big loss of quality. I don't recommend using it at all, it is just emergency option for me. It makes sense on A7R models, but not on A7.

I don't think I shall be buying this lens despite it being very high quality, but never say never. I enjoyed your review nonetheless. If I were to get a new camera system would you say Sony offers the better system and image quality with their Sony A7 iii with this lens than Fuji with the Fujifilm XT4 with their lenses? I take a mix of stills and video, but for me image quality is the most important. I like Sony's image quality. I currently have a Canon 5d Mk3 with various Canon Pro lenses which I seldom use and a fairly new Canon G7X Mk3. Thanks again.

Idk why people keep saying g masters are plastic. They are absolutely not plastic most of the casing is metal or some composite material very few plastic parts being lens hood and some smaller parts on the top edge
