Film Simulations for Sony cameras are finally here!
Sony is known for having bad colors, but is it really so?
In this short film I present to you, 8 Film Profiles that that will change your perspective on sony colors just by using sony picture profiles.

They include the Perfect S-Log recipe, that removes ugly green hues from skin tones that everybody is complaining about, giving you great colors out of camera, that might not even require any sort of grading.

All Sony cameras with the picture profile menu are compatible.
Mirrorless cameras including and all newer models starting from the Sony a7S I, a7II, a7C, a7RI, a6300, ZV1, ZV1F, ZV-E10, ZV-E1, ZV-F1, Sony a1, RX100 IV, RX100 VA, and all the newer models released after these are compatible.
All Cinema models are compatible, like the FX30, FX3, FX6, FX9, FR7 & of course the VENICE.
And most Sony Camcorders are compatible with Sony Film Simulation Picture Profiles.
At the moment, the a9 line doesn’t come with the Picture Profile menu, neither does the RX1 RII Fullframe camera.
Hopefully, they’ll include it in the newer models.

🐙ONE TIP with the film profiles try shooting at different kelvin and use the color filter to emphasize on different hues. If you shoot at correct settings like exposure, white balance then the effect that you'll get are minimized. They are meant to be used in a more creative way. 🐙
These are the picture profiles that i have been working on for the past year, and were made to emulate the Look of popular Film Stocks like Velvia 50, Kodak Gold 200, Kodak Portra 800, Ektar 100, FujiFilm 400h, Cinestill 800T and Custom 35mm film emulation as well. They work on multiple Sony cameras like sony a6300 series a7s III sony a7c a7 III sony a7iv a1 sony fx6, sony a7iii video.
I found them to be the best picture profile and use them for street photo, portrait, nature, travel blogs and commercial work. Try these Film profiles on any Sony camera for a 35mm feel and let us know in the comments what you think of these film simulation recipe !

@@romanvse the on screen settings are for in camera film simulations which you need to manually input into your sony camera. LUTs are to be applied in an editing software, like davinci or premiere etc. and you can find some here www.veresdenialex.com/shop-film-power-grades-luts-presets-veresdenialex

I dont quite understand the WB... changing the kelvin then changing the colour filter do the same things? I can get the same results saying going to 6600k than i do at leaving it at 5100 and changing the filter? Sony SO need to back these settings in the profiles.. why they didnt is a really bad oversite., they should of provided this in firmware upgrade by now lol Excellent work by the way. As a film user of 15 years.. you cant emulate film with digital no matter what you do really.... people just need to use film :)

@@stevef2114 The kelvin and color filter don't work the same way. You aleays have to use the temperature together with the color filter settings provided on the website. Because kelvin works only 2 ways, hot or cold, while color filter influences the hues and gives a different tonality to the scene.

@@veresdenialex thanks. having been a large format shooter on portra film stock, i'm going to give your Vectro and Ektar a go. Ive only ever shot raw on digital and done work in lightroom or capture one. LF film was always drum scanned. Ive never used Negative Lab pro... but may give it a go and use the my Sony to make digtial scans of my negs.

That's also a way of doing things, they are made to give you more control of the image that comes out of the camera, either by making it flat or baked and ready to go. Glad you enjoyed this clip.

Glad to hear that you had fun shooting with them, it takes some time figuring them out, but if you experiment around with the Kelvin and the Color filter you definitely get some nice results. Picture profiles are a great way of enhancing images inside of camera. It only takes time to get to know and understand the differences between gammas, color and all the submenus. I am really glad people are finding this video helpful

Yeah! I’ll give it a watch!! I’ve figured out a pretty solid workflow with Dehancer paired with the phantom luts on the Sony FX3. But having that look baked in makes for fun run and gun shooting scenarios. Not sure if you’re thinking about making these picture profiles as luts, but that’d be awesome!

i tried some of these settings but not the section in regards to detail or colour depth yet. i wasnt happy with colour in my sports photos because oranges yellows would infect everything. Now with these settings its actually effected my raw file! its bloody good as. Greens now come out green or predominately green. my skin is coming out WAY WAY better than before. the colour is good straight of the bat, the highlight rolloff with skin from your settings here also help raw file and make it look nicer! thankyou got this video!

Thank you for an amazing video, subbed. I feel the value of shooting with a baked-in look (as opposed to flat) for me personally is that it forces one to focus more on how the scene looks, is lit, and is framed AS IT EXISTS, rather than as it COULD exist "if I tweaked it in post". Obviously post-production is essential to the process either way, but people who shoot on film generally understand the necessity of getting as much as possible correct in camera and there's a lot to be said for that approach.

Great video man! Originally started with film so this is really nice to have as a reference. I like the Sony system but always wished for Fujis film simulation. Thank you! I mainly do photos (so no idea on video front for this) and I found for Portra 800, which was my favourite and main film stock I used, these settings have worked well for me. Obviously film is different depending on how it's exposed + where/how it's processed so YMMV. Putting it here as an alternative or if it helps anyone (mainly photos) for a reference: I expose P800 film by +0.3 or +1.3 so these are the colors I get: Sony a6400 sensor WB: 5000K, A:2.5 G:1.5 (Tweak color as needed) Black Level - 0 Gamma - Cine2 Black Gamma - Middle, -2 Knee - Manual, 90%, 0 Color mode - Cinema Saturation - +20 Color Phase - +3/+4 R -2 G +5 B +4 C +2 M +4 Y -2 Detail -3 Manual, Type 5 Limit/Crispning - 7/7

Most of the time yeah, bring it as close to the colors you imagined the story in. If you don't have a story, then choose correct temperature. Color grading is the last part in the post processing, but I usually think about every aspect before hand to be sure i have every piece of gear i need, so of course i try to inagine the set and setting, and what mood i want for each video

I would love to see you try this profiles with a sprayed on UV filter on the lens to make it softer and get a nice hightlight roll off. Maybe then you wont have to even go through DaVinci.
