I have both, but If I had a choice, it would be the FX-3 simply based on the versatility of the camera, the small form factor and ease of use. The FX-6 requires you to study it and learn it. The menu system is much more complex and will take time to become fluent in it.

I have both cameras. I shoot corporate video and for that reason I can say that they serve two different purposes (in terms of my workflow). For talking head (interviews/corporate bios) with still or seated subjects the FX-6 is designed beautifully for it. Mount it on a tripod and you are all set. With my FX-3 I have to add the audio handle and Sony NPZ 100 batteries do not last long enough for a full day shoot. On my FX-6 I use a V-mount battery that will last for 12 hour shoots. Where the FX-3 shines is for capturing B-Roll and moving subjects. Sometimes I will use the FX-3 as a B cam for a closeup from a different angle. Either handheld or on a gimbal the IBIS on the FX-3 creates smooth footage. Lastly, when you shoot corporate work and clients are paying thousands of dollars for a professional to show up, as such, showing a rigged out FX-6 is more impressive to the client. It’s not a deal breaker but you see in their faces that they are generally impressed when we show up with the FX-6 as opposed to the smaller form factor of the FX-3. I’ve rigged out the FX-3 but then later had to break it down to fly it on a gimbal. Having both cameras available on a job as an A Cam and a B Cam is definitely a benefit and having them serve two different purposes is very convenient.

@@edengate1 They’re both excellent. It’s 14 stops of dynamic range in Cine-Ei. The colors is 10 bit in S-log 3. You pull that S-log into Davinci Resolve and you can get anything you want out of it. If you want to do less in post you can shoot S-Cinetone. Even straight out of camera the color is excellent, not as much dynamic range as S-log but very good image straight out of camera on both the FX-6 or FX-3. When I use them both together On a shoot (A Cam B Cam) in log format, I find that the FX-6 is a little sharper image, so I either have to flatten it a little or sharpen the FX-3.

Personally I'd go for fx3 for the size and compactness and I favor IBIS over internal ND. I only shoot one lens and use a variable ND.

Great comparison, thanks for sharing your insight. Do you think that the max 4k resolution is a downside given that cameras from canon, blackmagic etc are 6k and even 8k?

Personally I think 8k is only really useful if you're going to heavily crop. For most people 4k is still more than enough.

If you look at the skin tone on the side by side shot, the fx6 looks a bit more natural to me, but yeah average jo defintely won't be able to really tell the diffence. Great video as always guys!

As an owner of an FX30 and a7iv, I haven’t had much reason to upgrade to the 6. The NDs and SDI would probably be it. But I like smaller cameras but can still be rigged out.

Good comparison. We own the FX6 but I find myself renting the FX3 quite often for gimbal. I hate shooting with gimbal but certain projects demand it. I'm shooting for car manufacturer and they need me to follow a spokesperson as they get in and out of a car, following talent all around the car so a gimbal it is and I hate the FX6 on gimbal. I need a B Sony camera so I am sure I will be buying an FX3 soon, I already have the cage, cine rig and V mounts for it because I rent it so often.

Definitely in the same boat. I have tried the fx6 with an rs3 pro and it works ok but I hate that you have to strip it down so much. It's just so much easier to use the fx3 with a gimbal.

@@RudyVisuals Yeah, I agree. Plus no audio on the FX6 when used without the handle. FX3 is the way for gimbal. I have the RS2 Pro, a friend bought the RS3 Pro and I've shot with it a lot on his shoots. It's noticeably more convenient with the gimbal lockup when powered down and the bluetooth camera communication instead of the cable I have to use on the RS2. But my RS2 works and I really hate shooting gimbal anyway, I only do it when it is the sole solution, I have an EasyRig and the FX6 is a dream on the EasyRig.

I have both the fx6 and fx3 HOWEVER i use Final Cut Pro to edit all my videos and don’t plan on switching softwares. The fx6 footage in Final Cut Pro gets compressed so bad that I haven’t even had the chance to fully see the potential the fx6 is capable of. for that reason the fx3 has been my go to camera while the fx6 sadly collects dust 💔

It's not that it's too bulky for weddings, it's just that the fx3 is much smaller and can probably do just as good as a job.

They've both been out for a few years now so the price drop probably reflects that. I don't think we'll see mark II's for a while yet still though.

Looks like the fx6 as an A cam with the fx3 as a B cam is a good combo! How did you record the audio for the musician? It sounds really good!

Straight into the fx6. We had two mics - one for the singer and one for the guitarist and it records them on separate tracks.
