What an amazing video, I absolutely loved everything that you’re creating! I’m about to invest in my first high-end camera, and I’d really appreciate your advice. Do you think I should go for the FX3 now in 2024, or would it be wiser to wait for the possible release of the FX3 Mark 2? Thank you so much for all the amazing content that you’re bring to creators like me once again! 🙌🏻

Thanks a ton, glad you enjoyed the video! ✌️ I'd still highly recommend the FX3 in 2024. It's successor apparently won't come out this year (according to Sony rumors) and we don't yet know what it's even supposed to bring to the table. The FX3 has just about anything I could wish for from a solo operator's camera but the decision comes down to the way you view filmmaking equipment. Many people feel like they have to have the newest tech in order to not limit themselves. A good example would be upgrading your smartphone every year. Personally I'm of the opinion that we're at a point we're basically any mid-tier mirrorless camera is an absolute power house, no matter what the next era may bring. I'm also still using my old iPhone 11, so there you have it. 🤷‍♂️😄

The FX3 is the best overall camera I've ever owned. If it had internal NDs it'd be perfect in my eyes but currently it's the best run and gun camera on the market. Of course they'll release newer and "better" cameras this year but the FX3 does most things exceptionally well in a super small form factor. As long as 4K is around, this camera is a viable choice.

Great Video! I'm currently using the GH5 and looking to upgrade to a new full-frame camera. I'm torn between the S5iix and the FX3. Do you think the extra cost for the FX3 is worth it? I’ve watched several footage videos from both cameras on KZbin, especially in the music video genre, and I find Sony’s look much more modern and cinematic.
@MarcelGlas
@MarcelGlas 6 ай бұрын
Hey Armin! Instead of looking at the cameras exclusively I'd recommend thinking about the entire ecosystem you'd invest into. You'll eventually replace your camera while you'd ideally want to keep the lenses you've bought. This can be a huge cost factor in many cases.

Awesome video! I own an FX3 for years now and I absolutely love it. One note tho: When you mentioned The Creator, it was Gareth Edwards (The Director of the movie) that talked about why he chose the FX3, not Greg Fraser. Great job on the video 👊
@MarcelGlas
@MarcelGlas 10 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoy it as much as I do Gustavo! Feels like we've got endless possibilites in our hands nowadays. Respectfully have to disagree on your note though. Greig was the initial DoP for the project and chose the FX3 since he had been working with it on a few commercial projects. Edwards went with his choice since both of them share a distaste for how Hollywood usually produces big budget cinema and Edwards needed something to shoot with in the style of his first movie Monsters. Oren Soffer hopped onto the project when Greig had to leave for Dune 2 and the camere had already been selected. That being said, none of this really matters since none of them could come up with a better camera at the time. ✌

@@MarcelGlas yes we do 😁 I knew about the involvement of Greig on the early stages of the movie, but didn’t know about his influence on choosing the camera. Man, I had the FX3 when it first came out, Had to sell in the pandemic unfortunately and got an A7IV which I actually love but it over heats like crazy, Since a year I have been back to doing 99% video and contemplating getting the FX30 or Fx3 if I can scrape the funds together.. Not sure if I can get by with the FX30 which is way cheaper and wait until the FX3II which might come out really "soon". One of my concerns also is with my A7IV I shoot 16:9 and have no problems cropping to vertical and it is really good quality and sharp but it is a downsampled 6K sensor. Would the FX3 have the same quality since it is only a 4.6K sensor? I never got a chance to use 16:9 and crop to vertical when I had it. Apparently the FX30 is also from a 6-7K sensor and I am wondering if it is going to crop better for that purpose..? I also do not shoot much super low light. Any suggestions from any professionals that may have a user experience with this? Thanks!!
@MarcelGlas
@MarcelGlas Ай бұрын
Hey man, thanks for commenting! I personally think spending money you don't have on camera equipment is never a good choice. Many people consistently show that you can create stunning visuals with relatively cheap gear. Whether the FX3 or FX30 might be the right pick for you heavily depends on your style of shooting. If you do a lot of run and gun I'd say the FX3's lowlight is more important than you'd think because it opens up tons of lenses you wouldn't be using otherwise. Then again investing into full frame lenses is quite a bit more expensive compared to APS-C lenses, so be aware of this. I've never had any issues with cropping 16:9 footage for vertical video even when doing digital zooms in post an no customer ever noticed anything. In my opinion the sensor holds up very well. As far as I know there is no FX3ii on the horizon, when you look to reliable sources like Sony rumors, so this shouldn't be a concern.

Top quality video! I own the a7SIII and never had an issue with it but I think I would've opted for FX3 if it came earlier. The EVF is handy though when outside and no bright monitor is mounted. Actually the original a7S from 2014 is still unmatched outside Sony which is mindboggling. Why other competitors leaving so much money on the table? On a wedding I even used 51,200 ISO in HLG3 and the customer was shocked because it was too dark at the spot and I never used any lights and still managed to make a plausible video quality. a7SIII, FX3, FX6 are a must for any serious filmmaker. Considering to add both the a9III and a7Rv in the near future.

Hello, thank you for your video. I would appreciate hearing your recommendation. I'm considering upgrading from my Sony a6400 to a full-frame camera, and I'm facing a dilemma: whether to spend and get the FX3 or save money and go for the ZV-E1, getting pretty much the same image but with the remaining funds invested in more lenses, etc? I shoot a variety of content, from events to weddings, so my direction is quite diverse.
@natepotter6911

If you do photo work, the FX3 is not very good, although it works in a pinch. If you're only doing video, the FX3 is the way to go. No overheating, many other advantages. That said, if you're lacking glass, that's always an investment to consider.
@MarcelGlas
@MarcelGlas 9 ай бұрын
Hey Yaroslav! To me, the decision is quite straight forward. If you earn money with your videos, go for the more reliable piece of equipment and get the FX3. The ZV-E1 is incredibly powerful but this makes it prone to overheating issues. If an FX3 and a good lens would break the bank, stick to your existing gear and put some money on the side until you can afford it. I really like the ZV-E1 but only as a B-cam or travel companion, not as a camera you'd want to base your income on. Hope this helps.

im thinking of changing from my FX30 to FX3, the FX30 was my first better camera, but i didnt knew the difference of APSC and FF Sensors ... i like the FX30 but i think with the FX3 i could get better quality with less work. Do you work with prores raw? i just tried it with the atomos and just loved the workflow and easier editing, of course the noise reduction is a little heavy to do, davinci crashes for me when using Neat Noise reduction xD dunno why, i have atm 32GB Ram+ RTX3070
@MarcelGlas

I feel like quite a few people ditched their FX3 when the FX30 was released and somehow expected it to be the superior choice - all of this depends on your usecase of course. Some people will also tell you that it's not worth to upgrade to full frame, since compatible lenses are much more expensive. No opinion out there (including mine) truly matters at the end of the day, all of it comes down to your needs and what you want to shoot. I wouldn't say you'll be able to get "better" results with an FX3. In fact the image from the FX30 is more detailed due to it's downsampling from a 6k sensor and the higher megapixel count. But as I was illustrating in the video, the FX3's image is 100% good enough to be considered as "stunning" or "detailed". The people that'll be seeing your videos won't ask themselves if the image would be better if it was sharper, only us nerds would think about something like that. Personally, I record in 25p XAVC S or 50p XAVC HS onto two V60 SD Cards. The footage runs smoothly on my M1 Mac Mini and from what I'ce seen and tested the differences in quality are neglectable. Not sure how you're editing atm but I always work on a 1080p timeline and only change it to 4k for my final render. This may help with performance if you haven't already tried.

@@VELVET462 if you'll only be needing a camera for this one constant environment I'd say the FX30 will serve you just fine. I prefer the FX3 due to it's flexibility in various uncontrolled situations but if you're in no need for this, the choice of brand or camera model beyond a certain point won't matter and you've certainly reached this point with the FX30. I'd say you'll be better of with keeping what you have and investing in some good lights or interesting set design pieces. This will level up you're talking heads setup way beyond anything a "better" camera could offer.

Is IBIS more important than built-in NDs? Do you shoot in low light often? Do you need a flip-out screen or not? Will you use the camera in various situations or only in controlled studio settings.
