Sony FX6 VS Sony FX30 - How they work together

I love how you talk about real-life functions. There are strengths to an APS-C sensor and the situational point is great. Many subconsciously prefer a smaller camera on set, especially when going for B-Roll, and capturing unnoticed with a gimbal is way more believable in the edit. The fact that they match is mind-blowing, considering the price point. I will soon have access to an FX6 at work, but I am also thinking about upgrading my personal A7s ii. I miss the auto-focus that the A7s iii has, and does so non-chlalantely, especially in fast-paced situations (event stuff). FX30 might just be a personal cam winner.

Amen! Agree on every point. Use them both , and the FX3, mix and match depending on the need. The crop factor is something to embrace. I’m looking forward to trying the 70-200 gm II on the FX30 next week and get a feel for that extra reach.

It’s such a great combo , I have 3 commercials this month , and my fx30 is my gimbal cam while my fx6 is my handheld beast 🙏🏾

@@KofiYeboah Awesome! Do you use anything to get time sync between them? I use the Ninja V with sync module but some times it’s just to heavy to bring them.

@@carlwingard8241 I use a rule called “if you’re happy and you know it” *clap syncs* Mostly because I’m waiting to get my own time code devices instead of relying on someone else haha

It looks like if you don’t need log for say a conference b cam then 6400 even is usable in no pp/s cinetone, not ideal but good enough perhaps

@@KofiYeboah Well I film a lot of podcasts and need a 3 cam setup, was thinking of selling the fx3 and getting 2x fx30's. My main worry was in low light will an fx30 cut with an FX6 well, have you had experience cutting the 2 in low light? Told all my friends to sub to your channel. Great content man.

Loving your contenet- practical and professional - I don't need pixel peeping - I need real world experience and you have that down perfectly!! I am loving my FX 30 - it is my A-cam for video (coming from a Nikon Z7ii still shooter world- the 8 bit recording and poor autofocus made that cam a terrible video cam for me). Keep up the great work!!

Great vid mate! I can imagine if used together outdoors you would need to use same filters (nd, vnd) to avoid colour differences, unless you can find matching filters on the fx30 to the internal ones on the fx6.

It’s not a 12,800 like the fx6, but so far , I really like it Also noise ? DaVinci resolve studio , helps a ton!

OK but how do you match them without getting noisy FX30 images? I light everything too, but there must be some offset for iso. Do you remember what iso you used in the fx30/fx6 here and, did you offset with fx6 ND? I’m pretty experienced on the canon end but looking to jump over …

If youre well lit, honestly keeping both at 800iso ( I use Cine ei) has been more than fine

I'm currently using my old A7ii with the 24/f2 and it looks way superior to the newest cell phone, especially at night. But I still want 4k60 and it's such a tough battle between the fx3 and a7siii. But I want the a7rV autofocus and screen, maybe wait for a7s4 lol.

Actually it dropped while I was camera prepping and broke the v mount plate the night before my flight , I got a temp solution, which broke on set when I was in LA 😅

@@KofiYeboah I wanted to leave a longer comment, but I was driving. You really did a great job discussing how this works for you. We tend to feel we need the best and for the ever so slight gain in quality we forget that quality is made up mostly in the experience. You seem to naturally have that down on camera. You were genuine, and real! I was like, “this guy, I definitely am going to follow”. Pretty inspiring! I have been running FS5M2s for several years now and am starting to appear on camera more and realize how important good auto focus is. Run and gun, going up to the FX6 isn’t as feasible because I don’t gain a whole lot. I ran into a good deal on the A7SIII so hope that can help me get started vlogging. Most people cannot hardly tell upscaled 4k vs filmed 4k anyway. I notice such a huge value in quality of the discussion and the and convincing storyline than I do in the slight minutiae difference between a $7k camera body and a $1700 camera body. I mean really, who cares if it is a crop sensor when the shot itself is about framing and achieving the desired depth of field? Of course this isn’t forgetting that these FX30s are seriously almost as good as the Super 35s that filmed Lord of the Rings videos. Especially if you are taking advantage of ProRes Raw. Grateful to have found your channel!

not sure why people hate APSC-Super 35. Isnt the Canon C70 super 35, the new Arri 35 is super 35, 80 percent of hollywood movies are super 35?

The arri has a lot more to it than the sensor size I’ll say that, but I’m equally confused. There’s tons of great s35 bodies around ! And for people that don’t have $6-$8k to throw around, it’s a great option !

Chronologically, the FX30 came out last in the line , so most people in the eco system would have an FX9,FX6 or FX3, naturally it’s had to replace these with an fx30, which is probably why
