Thank you. As you say i do know a lot about photography but sadly not a lot about all the cameras out there and their settings and sensors. the few reviews i do are usually a quick look to see what the photos look like but not a tech review. have a look round some forums etc - or if anyone else knows please post an answer...

It's a possibility. I'm having talks with various people to find ways to get my hands on cameras to review. There will be more coming along in due course...
@MikeBrowne11 жыл бұрын
Hi - maybe. I don't do many reviews and it depends on if someone will lend me one or if a store / manufacturer sponsors me with one for the review.

Sorry i don't know. I only had the camera for a day to review a first impressions review and I never tried that. Have a look on some forums / review sites to see what others say.

Thank you. You don't really get a blurry background when focusing far away - it's when you use long lens and focus fairly close. But compact cameras have small sensors which increase depth of field so even with the wide aperture it can be hard to make the background blurry.

Hi thebluesky06. I'm sorry I was given this camera to do a review on but I don't know the camera market. I've only used one other compact in the last couple of years. I can tell you all about how to take great pics but suggest you check out some specialist review sites for consumer info. Sorry I wasn't much help with this one :-/

I'm sorry I can't help you with this one. I'm a photographer rather than an expert on what's on the market so any reviews I do come form that perspective. Have a look on some forums / review sites to see what others suggest.

For its current knock down price (if you can find one) this is a peach of a camera. The ISO and Aperture restrictions can be overcome. You can actually get very good Bokeh (background blur) and tight control over your shots. But what stands out about this camera is that the image quality is sensational given the size of the sensor. It isn't that bad in low light either. It is by far the best cheap point and shoot travel camera I've owned, and is a brilliant jean-pocketable, feather-light, capable machine with vibrant colours, good black and white, and outstanding video quality for its specs. Ironically in this review the HX20v's video looked crisper, sharper and more vibrant than your own "broadcast quality" review camera!!! If you pixel-peep you will see the painted look but that happens on many cameras with tiny sensors. In normal viewing you will not notice it unless the light is very challenging. It's still a great little camera though.

It depends on the size of the subject so I'm sorry i can't advise. i was trying to photograph a bird that was about 8 inches beak to tail with a 500mm lens and had to be very close to the bird to fill the frame. Maybe 10 feet (ish) You'll have to try stuff out and see what works.

Great review! I have HX10V - same sensor. I and I also point out that when zoomed even at 50% the pictures looks like painting which compared to Panasonic is worse. These 18M are just overdosed, so don't relay of number of pixel - this camera is example for this. But the video is quite astonishing - image quality, and especially stabilization is the best on the market - it so stable that is like you are using special equipment! One more thing the replication of the colors on the screen - so-so

I really hope this is the first to a series, because i really enjoyed this one, its was simple and informative. If you can, i would love to hear your thoughts on Sony's RX100, it has a 1 inch sensor, adaptive LCD, and can even shoot in raw.

Thanks Mike. One more thing, and I have to get this off my chest, I bought a Nikon P7700 to replace my Hx20. Brilliant images but slow writeup. Love it immensely despite. Then I borrowed a friend's Hx20 and I realized what an amazing camera this REALLY is - quick focus, sharp images even at 40x!! and incredible video quality in a pocketable size.This really is a gem:)

I tried out both the S110 and the LX7 and I gotta say I am happy I went with the LX7. In low light it shines. The bright F1.4 aperture helps get even some of the more difficult shots. I know Canon cameras are easier to operate at times but he LX7 wasn't too bad and I have made some killer time lapses as well as some cool light paintings with it

Sorry Tom but it's very rare for me to test cameras - I only do it occasionally so I don't have a lot of knowledge when it comes to comparisons.

I shoot with a Sony slr (sorry slt) and it includes these picture effect. They can only be used in jpeg but since they are just for fun shots I don't mind too much, but you can still use aperture priority and manual so can be creative with it.

@jshaw660011 жыл бұрын
Great review. This isn't really the camera for me as I need something better for low-light. Is there a way you could review the Canon S110 or the Panasonic LX7?

Great review video, so if you had to spend £250 on a compact cam which one would you choose ?
@zalayeta00711 жыл бұрын
Hey sir, nice video as always, but i have a question.. these kinds of cameras have big appreatures such as 4.6.. so why when you focus on a subject that is farely far you don't get a blurry background? thx
@jshaw660011 жыл бұрын
Thank Robert! Can you comment on the pocket-ability of it? That's one thing I was worried about. Since I already have a DSLR, I want an "always with me" camera since that is the best camera. The only advantage of the Canon is that it is pocketable. Or is is REALLY an advantage? I'd like to know what you think.

Great video mike, was different having a review rather than technique videos, and though I have no interest in P&S cameras, it was a great review, sticking to the practical stuff rather than delving into the world of specs . Thanks Mike (and Alex of course) :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the "25 to 500 mm" feature already counts as a 35mm equivalent, meaning the 25 mm wide angle has this name for actually being equivalent to 25 mm focal length on a full frame. The only real difference there is depth of field, given the small sensor area. :) Nice vid.

I think you should definitely review more compact cameras.. but in comparison to other compact cameras, and not to DSLR cameras. Two different beasts :)

I have owned many Sony P&S and DSLR like Sony cameras. But this camera is pale compared to the HX9v a camera made in 2010. If you can find one it is much like the HX20. I have bought 2 so far

I’m not a great person to ask about all the many thousands of cameras on the market because the only ones I truly know are my Nikon’s. All brand name Dslr’s take great photos. I suggest you go to some shops, pick some up and see if you like one then check out some forums to see what people who own that camera say about it, here’s two videos to help you. /watch?v=g4J0YWmsrNU and /watch?v=uBQkozxzVUQ

why do you say the hx9v is better than the hx20v? every review I've read said the hx20v is an incremental update that's "slightly" better in low light situations and have better colour replication.
