My look at the Sony HXR-NX80 (very similar to the PXW-Z90) setup, design, and some workflow issues. I take a look at how this new 1" sensor performs with it's 12x optical but 18x "Clear Image Zoom" when used as part of a corporate webcasting / recording package.
The small size but good light gathering, long zoom, and 4K recording features stand out when compared to the cost and effort to use broadcast TV gear.

Your comment about content is spot on. A lot of people get hung up on the image quality when they're only shooting conferences or simple stuff. News flash: no one is watching those videos for the filmic expressionism. Just get it recorded and move on.

I've done video production full-time since 1990. I mostly do seminars, conventions, instructional video, weddings and other long format jobs. I have never had a customer inquire about picture quality or complain about the image. It is always about how well the content is covered and delivered. I also survived in business all this time putting my money and efforts into what the cares about not me. A general purpose and flexible camcorder by far is the best way to go.

I have watched about 50 reviews on the NX80, Anthony mentioned things that nobody else has, like the fact you can just be AC powered if in studio and never worry about battery life. I would have liked to have heard thoughts about stabilization. This was a fabulous review, many thanks!

Thanks for a great vedio mate 👍👍👍👍 . If you don't mind i have 2 points to highlight for veiwers as i own one . I ended up geting the sony separate charger cost around $90 australian ( around $65 us ) and it's worth the money as the camera is in it's case while charging or if you have a pack up battery you can charge one in the charger as well as conect the camera to the charger and charge both in the same time . Second point there is roughly 30% difference between nx80 and ax700 they use a different software.

I have used the nx80 and z90, basically identical except for 10bit,sdi, and 5gb streaming all on z90. I'm just trying to decide if it's really worth spending an extra five hundred bucks for those features and on the streaming is having the 5g that big of a Advantage over 2.4g for streaming? Andv10bit benefit? I honestly cannot tell the difference in the image quality recorded on these two cameras

I wonder for zooming in 4K video if the Sony RX10 IV would be a wiser choice, given it has a 25x 600mm reach, and the glass is much faster at f/2.4, and the RX10 IV also has a 1" inch sensor?

You mention the Sony MCX-500 mixer. I'm curious based on your reference of being more of a mixer kind of guy (me too because 4 cameras in the studio is what we do), but since it processes internally at 1080p, isn't it pointless to feed it 4K? No snark . . . what am I missing? More importantly, what other options are there in the world of $2000 camcorders? And by this I just mean please don't point me at a $15,000 solution if you can help it. Oh, and before I get totally wrapped around the axle with what's nothing more than a minor detail plus a question; of little interest to others, this is a super well done video of special value to me because your workflow discussion focusing on how these small units really get used. This segment is fantastically useful because I'm shopping to replace four camcorders right now and this was seriously well done. Thank you!

Ok so I do wedding and I've been using Dslr. Now at times I do weddings by myself and two of the three cameras are totally manual focus and yes there's time even with a monitor I can't get it focus and outside can be just as tricky because it's so bright. So I've been thinking of getting one or two camcorders, but I'm concerned they would only be good outside weddings. I will say a good part of reception it's usually bad lighting, and it's even hard with dslr, but sometimes reception are not that bad with light would this handle ok lighting?
@IEBATechThoughts
@IEBATechThoughts 2 жыл бұрын
Well, you're asking about a 4-year old camcorder. Camcorders do fine and were how weddings and events were recorded before DSLRs. In fact, DSLR's have focus issues camcorders never had, even when they were standard definition and nowhere near as good as they are today. Today's camcorders are much better with light. It'd be worthwhile to find a local VAR where you can test one out to see if it works for you.

Yes, thats'possible. I've done that over the past 6 months to support livestreaming our weekly worships due to Covid-1 with my HXR-NX80. Excellent improvement over making use of external mic like the Sony ECM-959 by making use of the available PA systems line output. All audio volume settings on manual. Never experienced clipping.

I really like your reviews. Question: What is the best video camera under $5000 for getting as cinematic a look as possible? And I would like an actually video camera, not a mirrorless or DSLR. THX
@IEBATechThoughts
@IEBATechThoughts 5 жыл бұрын
There is no best camera. There are numerous cameras, with numerous sensor sizes, numerous zoom lengths, numerous recording capabilities, color space, bit depth, frame rate, resolution, and more. And all these variables vary from camera to camera, and all these variables have different weights to different end users. Cinematic to some people means shallow DoF which is a relation of the sensor size to the lens, Cinematic to others is dynamic range and color reproduction. So I'm sorry if I don't have a definitive answer what the best camcorder is for a "cinema look."

Great review, I saw a footage of this camcorder shooting at 4K 30fps, what's is up with the motion stuttering when panning even slowly, then I saw another footage at 1080p 60fps the motion stutter disappeared. I want to buy the camera but I don't like that motion stutter at 4K 30fps, any idea on how to fix this phenomenon? Please let me know, thank you.
@IEBATechThoughts
@IEBATechThoughts 3 жыл бұрын
It coudl be perceived motion - 30fps by itself is just a little more than "filmic" 24 fps which has a very distinct motion judder when panning. 60fps will always be smoother because it's 2x the temporal "resolution" more frames = smoother motion. This is why ESPN is 720p60 HD and not 1080p30.
@lnoncent

@@IEBATechThoughts I guess when I'm shooting stationary stuff I'll use 4k 30fps, and when panning I'll switch to 1080p 60fps, thank you very much.
